Jacob: I'm trying to preserve Black Voices Monet: OH so now it's your job as White Savior to "preserve Black voices?" Bob: F*cks one Black guy... Me: Y'all just gave him a Mic to destroy his inner self.
I’m glad Bob brought up Harriet Tubman and her disability. Its important to note though that she wasn’t just randomly hit, a slave owner/overseer purposely hurt her when she was a mere child and it disabled her for the rest of her life.
@@stormlandon ah thanks for the correction! Either way it was a fucked up incident, and makes her story even more powerful knowing she accomplished all that she did even though she was hindered in so many ways
That is an interesting fact hat I never heard. That makes her commitment to black people that more important. Thanks guys. Oh, hey Bob and Monetxchange😂😂
Much about Harriet is misconstrued just like all of black history is twisted by white people, most people believe they came from Africa without even doing any research on their family records lol
Monet! Yes! In my school the textbook definitely painted Malcom X to be the one in the movement who was going about things the wrong way. The teacher even put it on a test!!! It wasn’t until I was an adult and read about Malcom X online that I realized I was brainwashed
HI Monet Just wanted to say that there was a large West Indian influence in the US civil rights movement, from early on. For example, CLR James (Trinidad), Marcus Garvey (Jamaica), Hubert Harrison (St, Croix), Malcom X (Grenadian mother), Louis Farrakhan (Jamaican father, Kittitian mother), Kwame Ture(born Stokely Carmichael in Trinidad) - and a lot more. I learnt about a lot of them in school in Trinidad. And big up St. Lucia - fabulous country, and AMAZING food!
Hey Bob, also born and raised and still living in Columbus, Georgia area. Ma Rainey's house may be small, but it is also in the prominent area of Columbus. It is also a couple houses down form the Liberty Theater which is where all the black stars from the day performed when they came here. I saw Jennifer Holiday there.
Eye opening the shit about Lincoln. when youre a young kid, at least in Texas we dont learn a lot about black history especially about the different people, but we did spend a lot of time on black history in middle school learning about the civil rights movement and even watching movies like Mississippi Burning and and that Django unchained of all things. Schools really are trying to teach us about black history though, I remember we read the autobiography of Fredrick Douglass, but stuff like Juneteenth i learned from my mom who works at a historical museum so idk
I went into a full tangent after watching sex in the city with my roommates about how they characterized J-Hud who was the ONLY ACADEMY AWARD WINNER on the cast and they made her the sassy assistant😒 hearing Monet talk about this feels like justice served 🤣
I would suggest “Belly of the Beast” by Da’Shaun L. Harrison. The book talks about health and fatness, and the violence of it towards Black ppl. Great read.
i hate to make it a contest but, you know ive had a historian explain "why isnt the colonization of the americas treated the same as the holocaust", that guy touched on slavery too, and in a lot of words he basically said brown and black people arent human. an entire continents worth of people were raped and massacred. a good amount of people think native Americans are extinct or whatever. even we think "our" languages are dead, or how "hispanic" is used refer to us/ourselves even tho so much of our culture also comes from the indigenous side of our families. theres so much more i could speak on but im just screaming into the yt void and honestly thinking about this makes me sick.
This Has To Be My Favorite Sibling Rivalry Episode Ever. I Truly Love Bob & Monet x when I watch SR & SA I feel heard and seen and feel like I’m connected to them both I learn to so many new things
Black history month should be taught across the diaspora. It really grinds my gears when AFAM/ADOS or Black immigrants/1st gens try to make some distinction. Marcus Garvey was Jamaican. Malcolm X was 1st gen with his mom being from Grenada. Nella Larson was 1st gen with parents from the West Indies. It's important for all black people to be connected to the Black diaspora and be aware of the global history.
It’s been a couple episodes that Michael Jackson has been brought up on the pod, and I truly wish y’all would do an episode on THAT topic... Considering you two are such great advocates for the right causes.
Bob accusing of Monet of trying to call Jacob something offensive but referring Jewish American Princess as “Jap” like the Japanese slur lmaoooo nooooo
Did they mention Bayard Rustin? I was kind of listening for his name but not sure. Bayard Rustin, a gay civil rights leader, was kept in the shadows by the Civil Rights movement establishment, but organized the March on Washington.
Monet!!!! I'm not a big Sex and the City fan but, the clutch SJP gave Jennifer Hudson was Louis Vuitton and I think it was close to $1200! I worked for LV at the time and that clutch was very sought after! 😘
Omggg being from East London and hearing them talk about it made my day hahaha. Btw Monet a chav is used for more trashy women (putting it not very nicely). If you’re talking about hood you mean a roadman hahahaha
Hello Bob and Monet, I've been watching you both for ages. I am from London, and I'm a neek (which means nerd and geek into one), and I doubt you will read this but from the previous podcast I wanted to mention that to see something means to sense without looking or any of the 5 senses. An example of using it in a sentence is when someone explains a situations to you and you say "I see", but you didn't physically see (to look) it means to understand I guess. You look with your two eyes and you see with your third. also their aren't any black chavs, only roadmen. Anywaysss I loveee your podasts, I wish you all well! x
As a white person, I can tell you that *not* saying the N-word is by far the easiest part of my life 😂 people out here swear that they’re being oppressed because they can’t say it and I don’t know what to do except laugh at them. Feels like I should be angry at them but it’s just comical to me, and as a white person, my anger in defence of black people means fuck all 😂
Malcom X didn’t follow the ideology of “By any means necessary” for his entire life. Later in his life, he went on pilgrimage to Mecca which is a holy place for Muslims. He came back and spoke about how all types of races were living in peace on this pilgrimage and changed his mindset about his stance. I could be wrong but from my knowledge, this is what happened to him.
I learned about Abraham Lincoln's racism through the NYT's 1619 podcast series. Super super informative and well done series (and it's turned into a bigger project now). It is appalling how he spoke of black Americans. I call him out whenever people praise him.
“During black history month Jacob is trying to silence black voices” currently losing it 💀
😭😂❤️🔥
Jacob: I'm trying to preserve Black Voices
Monet: OH so now it's your job as White Savior to "preserve Black voices?"
Bob: F*cks one Black guy...
Me: Y'all just gave him a Mic to destroy his inner self.

No, The man threw it at another slave and it accidentally hit Harriet. While it was still targeted at a slave, it was never meant to hit Harriet.
@@stormlandon ah thanks for the correction! Either way it was a fucked up incident, and makes her story even more powerful knowing she accomplished all that she did even though she was hindered in so many ways

@@stormlandon that tells me she has been protecting people since she was a child...God bless her soul 🙏
Monet saying “Fuck A Wall, Build A Ship 🚢 Send Them Back” Is Absolutely the most hilarious thing she has ever said 😂😂😂😌😌😂😌😌😌
Petition for a recurring segment about Black Herstory! I loved the segment about Harriet
YAAAAAASSSSS!!!!!!
they did this for a few weeks in 2020, but it ended up being a lot of prep work to be feasible :/
ONCE A WEEK!
@@tasxbbc ill do the prep work.

Same for me.. X was kinda rushed thru and painted as aggressive not progressive
"let's find out if Monet's been suspended for two weeks when we get back" yo I *DIED*
Why this first minute of nothing got me cracking up 😂
“I JUST LOVE APPLES” I’m so dead 😭
This kills me everytime

i'm sorry i LOST IT at saying "the girls that get it, get it" to freaking Harriet Tubmannnnn
One minute in and i think my sound is brokennnnn... Ya'll are... Wild. GOOD NEESSSSS I LOVE YOU TWO SO MAAACH
When I press play, I always have about half a second to scramble for the volume button before the bass from intro music takes my eardrums again.
Fun fact: Frederick Douglas was also the most photographed person at that time.
"Build a wall, he wants to build a ship."
"Mister is a sister"

I was 9 minutes in before I realized it is guerrilla not gorilla 🤦🏾♀️. I was so confused 🤣🤣🤣

Joe Rogan is such a weird hill for Spotify to die on.
Never forget Julia Roberts was favored to play Harriet Tubman in a biopic back in the 90s 🙃

Taraji P. Henson wasn’t really singing in “I Can Do Bad All By Myself” that was actually Cheryl Pepsii Riley’s voice she was lip syncing to.
Bob’s determination to sing even though he sounds like a parrot…relatable.

Lincoln wasn't an abolitionist, he ended slavery because of politics and economics, not because he didn't belive in slavery
