  • It's Mansell-Mania again at a completely revamped Silverstone but there is no shortage of others ready and willing to spoil the party - Riccardo Patrese is still fiercely competitive with his team-mate, Alain Prost won here last year and wants to break his 1991 duck on a significant weekend for Ferrari. Ayrton Senna still leading the championship but desperate to regain the momentum, Jean Alesi and Gerhard Berger keen to prove themselves and Nelson Piquet always happy to be a fly in someone else's ointment.

I was there for qualifying and the race. After Mansell set his fastest time, he drove slowly past Senna's garage and blipped the throttle hard as if to say "beat that". Everyone at the circuit got the message!

The very first Grand Prix I ever watched. Supported Mansell and he won. Couldn't be better for my 7 year-old self.

A really scary crash for Andrea de Cesaris - quite a rarity in 1991 - and Nakajima did extremely well to avoid inflicting further damage.

i'm put in mind of Warwick's comment after his shunt at Monza the previous year about "you're in the car having the accident for about 20 minutes". AdC was a passenger the moment something snapped on his suspension

“With a nose as crooked as Alain Prost’s” ha ha!! I was at the race - along Hangar Straight (ganeral admission at GBP 35 was all I could afford) - and being a huge Mansell fan it could not have gone any better. Happy day!!

Williams changed their nose cone for this race and would continue to use it throughout 91 and 92. It was quite longer with a reprofiled front wing.
With that change, plus the debut of the 643 the race before, to me this is the best looking grid in Formula 1's history.
Edit: Also, lol @ Kevin Costner fighting against British things. haha

@@TurbosTantrums YES, yes! The Castrol Lotus 107 is one of my all time favourites without a doubt! So yeah, let's say 1991-1992 cause in reality I do like the Williams 14B with the bodywork extensions for the active suspension at the front better than the 14.

I remember this one, especially Mansell giving Senna a lift!

Genuinely surprised that bit wasn't blocked by FOM. Give them time...

This is fab to see, the '91 British Grand Prix was the first GP I ever attended, at the age of 13. I was at the inside of Stowe corner. Always remember Johnny Herbert retiring very near to us in his Lotus. I recall the amazement as we arrived at the circuit during morning warm up, greeted by the immense sound of the engines, the way they penetrated through your entire body, I will never forget! The V8s, V10s, V12s all sounded amazing and all different, the Hondas had a glorious deep bark and the Ferraris, Yamahas were more a higher pitch shrill. The Lambos somewhere in between maybe.
I was a Senna fan through and through, but I've definitely came to fully appreciate our Nige and the brilliant driver that he was and how he thrilled the British fans. The atmosphere was electric.
Very interesting to be reminded of the general news that was going on around this time as well.
Wonderful memories 😀 and I'm very much enjoying this channel and the effort you put into your videos. Looking forward to mire.

I was at Club corner in 1992 and Senna stopped there in the final laps as well. In 1993 somebody put up a Senna parking sign 1991 / 1992 / 1993? On the the Fence at Club. Senna broke down in that race. First time I ever saw Damon Hill race. Mansell lapped him 4 times.
