    Both brought out the best and the worse of each other, both absolute legends! Glad they made up before Senna died.

    thank you for these excellent videos containing rare and precious images. Magnificent fights between gladiators in their dangerous cars. Death was never far away...Thrilling races with twists and turns at every moment.
    I am French, Prost was without a doubt one of the greatest drivers of all time. He could have won two or three additional titles... And yet for me the passion for Formula 1 came to an abrupt end against a wall on May 1, 1994

      Thanks for watching the video. Great comment. I was too young to witness this era of Formula 1 but I've been fascinated by it for years. Senna, Prost, Mansell or Piquet, all Legends of the Sport and I think you're right. This era ended on the first of May in 1994.

    Senna was amazing of course. But look up a list of Prost’s teammates. He was so great, and no ego as far as showing off on the track. He just cared about race wins. No glory runs, just grinding, consistent excellence. A wonderful counterpoint to the electric Senna.

      Absolutely. Great comment. That's why I find it so fascinating to cover the rivalry of these two legends.

    Prost beat five world champion teammates. Senna (actually outscored him twice both 88 and 89), Keke Rosberg, Damon Hill, Niki Lauda and Nigel Mansell. No other driver can claim such track record.

    Prost was damn good. If you count with today's point system, it is Alain who is the world champion not Ayrton

      You are right. If made a video about it on my channel we're I compare the official results for classic seasons with today's point system. With today's point system prost would have been champion in 1988.

      Everyone including Prost knew and played by the same rule at the time which was heavily favouring outright speed and wins. Back then mechanical issues were still more prevalent so that rule was like accomodating a bit for such instances too.

    • @John-mi2rt
      @John-mi2rt Před 6 měsíci +1

      Maybe, but if you insist that's true I put it to you if Senna had today's reliability in 1989, Prost would have been destroyed.

      @paulusrumanouw3176 Před 6 měsíci

      @@John-mi2rt exactly! Prost only had half of Senna's technical issues! If Senna had the same reliability as Prost, he would have outscored Prost in both 88 and 89 seasons.

  • @archibaldocruz4561

    Prost won both seasons with Senna. Despite making the best season in the history of F1, the tittle went ridiculously to Senna. More wins in F1; more fastest laps in F1; more championships; more points in F1. Senna put Prost off the race intentionally in 1990 taking another tittle from Prost. Prost was just a bit over 10 points away from being 9 times world champion. And Prost won a championship with a much slower car (1986). Senna only won 2 championships (the other one Prost made more points than him) - one he had to take Prost off the race and the second Prost was driving a truck. Was Senna really that good? Piquet has a lot more merit in his 3 tittles.

    • @paulusrumanouw3176
      @paulusrumanouw3176 Před 7 měsíci +2

      Note though when they were team mates in 88-89, Senna had 6 mechanical issues/DNF while Prost only 3. Then Senna had a few non scores most notably due to gotten hit by the black flagged Mansell in Portugal 89 and also unfairly disqualified in the infamous Japan 89. So if those unlucky issues and moments didn't happen as many, he would probably also outscored Prost anyway and won both 88-89 titles. Granted Senna was still a bit immature in 88-89 while Prost already a multiple champ. In terms of raw speed, no doubt Senna was faster especially in Q and wet, even though Prost was also very fast especially in race condition.
      In 90, both had the same number of mechanical issues (3). Ferrari had a very fast car that year and Prost did very well with it, and lucky most of the mechanical issues happened on Mansell's car instead. Japan 90 Senna had revenge boiling in his vein, it's payback for 89 but yeah still bad.
      As for 86, Williams kinda imploded with both Mansell & Piquet fighting each other then got unlucky with the tire blow out to Mansell so Prost swopped in from behind.

      @@paulusrumanouw3176 In 89, lots of people who know what they are talking about, like James Hunt or Niki Lauda, said it clearly that it was Senna's fault. He wasn't unfairly disqualified at all. Why would Alain Prost let him pass, specially when a championship was on the line? Did Senna ever let Prost pass without a terrible fight? Senna would do anything to win no matter what.

      @@archibaldocruz4561 2 things here, 1st the crash, some camera angles showed Prost hastily turned the steering even earlier than the apex after caught a bit surprised when Senna went for it. Senna himself proved again that he managed to replicate the move cleanly on Nanini while Prost simply said "it's my corner so I turn the way I wanted". I don't realky recall those drivers you mentioned blamed Senna for it, maybe they said Senna's fault was he should have waited for a better chance.
      2nd, about the reason of disqualification, now that's the one being called unfair. It was not about who caused the crash but about how Senna rejoined the track. They claimed Senna was pushed over the chicane hence straightening the track and that's illegal. They said he should have reversed back into the same point where they crashed while entering the chicane which was absurd because that means he had to reverse or being pushed into oncoming traffic whjch was obviously very dangerous. There were even other previous similar events happened without the driver getting DSQ yet that time Senna was DSQ.

    • @paulusrumanouw3176
      @paulusrumanouw3176 Před 7 měsíci

      @@archibaldocruz4561 anyway despite whether the DSQ was fair or not, again as I said earlier that Senna also had other more unlucky situations that significantly took away points from him which would have made him truly outscore Prost in both 88-89.

      @archibaldocruz4561 Před 7 měsíci

      @@paulusrumanouw3176 Here's some:
      "In my opinion it was 100 per cent Senna's fault... the first man into the corner chooses the line. That's the way I've always been taught to drive... You cannot drive through a car if that car is on the line, and there's no [expletive] way you can outbrake anybody into the first corner at Suzuka. There is absolutely no discussion that there was just no room... Prost was totally correct." -- Stefan Johnasson
      "I've driven Suzuka a lot of times, and I know if you're not side by side... there's no way you can pass like Senna tried to do." -- Anders Olofsson
      "Why should Prost let Senna pass without a fight? Alain drove the normal fight-line, not zig-zag, we know that from Patrese. Alain did not at all drive unfair, the driver, who is behind the other is always guilty at accidents. Prost is absolutely innocent!" -- Niki Lauda
      "I’m afraid to say that it is all over for Ayrton Senna and it was his own fault because of the slow corner; he wasn’t past Prost and he went into a gap and PROST HAD EVERY RIGHT TO TURN INTO HIM. And I’m afraid that it was self-inflicted. Senna is got going again, he’s back on the track but he will for sure be disqualified for receiving a push-start." -- James Hunt commenting live.
      Nannini had to brake so hard that smoke came out from the right tyres and his Benetton's rear slid wide in order to avoid a collision with Senna.
      About the disqualification: the rules were clear and Senna violated the rules. You can make a point that this time they were more strict, but could Prost accept that there was a violation of the rules in this case? It would be ridiculous. The decision was taken following the rules and that's how it should always be.
