Not all strong scents will trigger one for me, but certain ones will. Cleaning products with a strong chemical smell really bother me. I once had a major migraine triggered by new rubber mats being put in at my work. You know, the ones they put down so office chairs don't tear up the carpet. Yeah. I was also taking a medication at the time that increased my sensitivity to smells as a side effect. That smell still bothers me to this day, but I'm not as sensitive to it now.
I usually sleep with a Febreze bottle on my door handle next to my bed. Migraines for months. Remove Febreze and place it under table next to my bed and migraines no more. Didn't even spray the bottle. It was just hooked on the door knob Hmmmmmm
I actually abused painkillers when I was younger so I can't even use them unless it's serious bc i need a higher does for them to even work. Good thing I have i pretty high pain tolerance. But it takes a lot of work to get to that level, and over the years the resistance I unintentionally built up has started to fade. As long as you don't take more than it says on the package you should be fine.
Be careful, a friend of me always took a lot ibuprofen and he died with only 36. Ok, he also only drank coffee, never water and ate unhealthy, but still. Please take good care for your body. And drink a lot of water if you use them...
That is really not good! Overuse happens when you use painkillers to often over a certain amount of times. For example everyday for a month or longer. Sporadic use isn't harmful and normally doesn't cause rebound migraine. Having high painlevels and just tolerating them can actually trigger your nerves. You don't get more tolerate to pain, instant you get more sensible. Again it is about having strong pain for a long period. Good pain-management and pain medication is actually really important for you body. I always thought it would be better to just sit through the pain. But as I started medschool I learned how wrong that is.
10 more triggers according to my migraine journal: 1. Red wine (specifically) 2. Citrus 3. Excess sugar consumption 4. Dehydration 5. Not enough sleep 6. Too much sleep 7. Ovulation 8. Menstruation 9. Stress 10. Bright lights (bright direct sunlight, spotlights, headlights) Despite my efforts, I still have around 15 migraine days per month. I’m finally taking steps in seeking treatment and hoping to find a solution! I want my life back!
A suggestion (noting it could be wrong) looking at your list…investigate mast cell disorders and mast cells generally. They absolutely cause migraine (and ironically migraine can cause mast cell issues) but I’d have a look into this. Note: it comes under an immune system issue. And mast cells behave slightly differently in all different parts of body. Why is it helpful? Because the treatment is radically different!! Good luck!
@L_W748 consider acupuncture, doing it with someone who knows about headaches and what points to do, as well as doing it consistently. I did it very frequently at first and now I only go every few months but it changed my life! I now can work and do activities without being in the dark all the time and in pain in bed because of the migraines.
I've got long and thick hair and I can't last in a high pony tail more than 10 minutes, it hurts so bad. It also causes traction alopecia so no thanks, only low and comfortable buns for me.
I taught my husband to run his fingers through my hair and scratch HARD at the part that had the ponytail holder. It feels heavenly at the end of the day!
That reminds me a scene in an old comedy movie where an asylum inmate repeatedly hits his testicles with a hammer, a passerby asks him "Isn't it painful?" and the crazy man replies: "Of course it is! But when I miss, it's a neverending bliss!"
“Make sure you get 7-9 hours of sleep and limit your screen time ” says the famous CZcams doctor who became famous in part to night owls and insomniacs like me watching his vids late at night 😄. Love your content, Dr Mike 😊
As a human biologist, I think we're not really aware how sleep influences our brain. Bad sleep quality cannot only cause headaches but also induces changes in brain activity. If we sleep less than 7 hours a night over a long period of time it can even lead to a decrease of new cells in the hippocampus which is important for forming memory (I just made a video about this). Bad sleep quality can even contribute towards symptoms which are seen in Alzheimers disease..
I have hypersomnia aswell where i can fall asleep and have aroubd 8 hours, but when i wake up feel as ive had none at all which can lead to oversleeping which also causes me headaches
ALSO, extra hours of homework/studying and bc of the pandemic whenever we need a break what do we do? use our phone or watch tv bc what else can we do lmao
As a long-term migraine sufferer, I appreciate videos like this. Unfortunately, my migraines are due to a neurological issue. For most people, however, this information is invaluable!! Thank you, Dr. Mike!
I heard a Dr say recently that it's lack of salt for 90 percent of his patients. He gives them a glass of salt water to drink and their migraines disappear. Hope this helps. Also get a good salt if you can. Like pink salt it has natural trace minerals the body needs.
Whenever you see someone "coming out" as a migrain sufferer, you'll see a bunch of people dismissing the issue and giving generic advices. It's like bees on flowers.
I get chronic migraines. When I was younger my mom would call me “the human barometer” because I’d get an awful migraine before thunderstorms. Now I can feel it in my face when a storm is coming.
Me too, sort of. I got it from my mom who feels pressure in her head and sinuses before a storm, though I'm more sensitive. I can tell when a storm is brewing and depending on how bad the headache gets I can tell how intense the storm will be. Thankfully the pain never lasts more than a couple hours (if I'm weathering the storm), and when it stops it does so completely and suddenly with no lingering effects, as if my head adjusts to the different pressures and stops blaring the alarm. Driving from state to state is really weird though. Depending on how far I drive I can pass through multiple storm fronts, so the whole trip is pain..no pain....pain..no pain...................pain..no pain..pain..no pain.......pain..no pain, etc. 😂
Me Hady phone at around 15-20 cm to my face Also me: moves my phone further away All the while lying on my stomach My neck: hey you're bending me too much to the back, would you like some headaches?
lmao my go to solution for headaches in either drinking more water and then even if that doesn't stop it i eat and usually that does the work but if it still doesn't stop i just let it do it's thing and go through the pain
I just had an extremely rare for me scent induced migraine a few days ago. A guy I work around had a cologne or body spray that had my head pounding within minutes. Normally mine are triggered by barometric changes so this one was a surprise. It's very nice to see the triggers for me that rarely get mentioned anywhere both show up in one video.
I’ve had chronic migraines for 30 years. The only person who truly understands what a migraine sufferer is going through is another migraine sufferer. It is not just headache.
Amen girl! Having migrains since I was 10 (good 25 years now...), One particular time it was 5-6 days a week... No apparent medical problems behind it. :( Hang onto the good, painfree days! ❤️💚
God yes! I've had migraines for decades and hear all the time "oh it's just a headache". No a headache doesn't last for months, in varying degrees of pain. Bite me. Although thankfully I haven't had to get pain shots in over 5 years. I do have heavy meds just in case though. God I hate migraines. Botox has been a godsend though.
@@rhiannonm6022 i honestly envy people who can fall asleep just like that. I can't for the life of me fall asleep. If i lie down at 11 i only fall asleep at 1 or 2. So yeah life is hard
Other possible causes from my experience: Dehydration, over sleeping (8 or more hours), not sleeping enough(4 or less hours), stress, or even not eating properly.
I'd add the sweetener *Aspartame* to this list, it's in LOADS of stuff and through a lengthy process of elimination I've found this triggers migraines for me.
I was gutted when a new migraine med came out and they'd sweetened it with aspartame - what the hell? My dr said 80% of migraineurs react to aspartame and they'd put it in this migraine-specific drug. It's stupid things like this that make it so hard to treat migraines
@icarusbinns3156 that sucks, yeah, took me a while of testing to figure out out but I've been avoiding all sweeteners for a few years now and although I still suffer from headaches and migraines it's no where near as often as it used to be. Unfortunately I'm increasingly finding it in more stuff all the time 😞
@icarusbinns3156 oh for sure, I don't even drink a lot of soda, I just miss the variety for when I do have some but it's something I'm happy to give up if it means less headaches.
Sticking to a routine is the best advice I’ve gotten from my doctors-shoot for the same amount of sleep, water, caffeine, exercise, screen time, etc. every day. Migraines feed off changes in routine. Emgality has worked like a miracle for me, too. Thanks for this post, Doctor Mike! :)
Try noise canceling headphones and maybe sun glasses. It works really well for me. It took a lot of trial and error for me to figure this out 😅. What works for me may not work for you tho. With migraine level pain tho it's worth a try.
I recently learned from my doctor that women can get headaches/migraines because of the drop in hormones around the menstrual cycle, and after learning that and keeping a migraine journal, I realized that’s when/why I have most of mine! Crazy! 🧠🤯
Me too. But I also have an added problem of serious cramps so I take midol which contains acetaminophen which then gives me rebound headaches/migraines. 🙄 Sometimes it's annoying being a woman!
Not sure if he said it and I just missed it but HYDRATE! I can’t say how many times I got a headache and some one asked when’s the last time I drank water. My answer was usually I haven’t drank any today
I can’t stand strong smells of colognes, deodorants, perfumes… it gives me nausea and headaches if I can’t leave the area. Macy’s perfume and make up area is a resounding NO for me 🤮
So glad you talked about scents, specifically perfume causing migraines. My friends all think I’m being over dramatic when I have a headache from their perfume.
Perfumes, scented candles, almost every cleaning supply product ever, especially those with lavender scents for me...can't tell you how many times I've started feeling not great all of a sudden while shopping only to realize I've walked past the candle aisle. I feel your pain. Thankfully, my friends and family believe me.
Same. I have specific personal care brands I use because I know the scent won't trigger/aggrevate migraines. Mint seems to be the best, followed by REAL lemon or lime (artificial citrus scents are tossup). I've also found most "unscented" items still have a scent, and some of those have a chemical smell that causes issues.
I’ve always been sensitive to strong smells as well. My husband has this one cologne I cannot stand. He will do less than one spray, and it still bothers me. He loves it, so he definitely doesn’t have the same reaction. I’ve tried explaining it to him, but I think it’s hard for people who don’t experience this to understand.
I get mild headaches almost everyday. If I sleep less than 7 hrs a day, do not sleep when I feel sleepy, do no eat when I'm hungry, or a small tension gives me prolonged headaches. I have to keep a balm for curing my headache with me all the time. 😕
A lot of good stuff here! Some of these are (or were) migraine triggers for me! I want to add that The weight of your hair can also be a trigger. Sometimes it causes me to have migraines, and I found the most effective way to combat that is to redistribute the weight by either doing a single French/Dutch braiding it or doing twin braids. Some of my triggers that he didn't mention include being dehydrated, needing to eat, and needing sleep. If I'm lacking any of these, it will often results in a migraine.
honestly, CZcams mobile app(and every other video platform i.e Netflix) needs to come with eye detection....if you're too close the video doesn't play. Let's see those who use their phones at 2 am(including myself some nights) how they'll react.
@@idalarsen2540 my 5 year old niece complained about a headache the other day. I said it was her constantly looking at the phone. Both her and her father said I was stupid and don't know anything. I told him that I see clearly where my niece gets her intelligence (or lack there of) from 😒😒😒😒
@@nintando yes. My 5 year old niece. She refuses to watch anything if it's not on a phone. I blame her parents. Because they would put their phone to play cartoons since she was only months old instead of interacting with her.
My migraines are triggered by a really sunny day/bright lights, pony tails, too much people talking, naps, my glasses, and especially school days. Last year I had a headache every single day. When I wasn't at school such as weekends or vacations I wouldn't get a headache. Just thinking about going to the new school year is such a nightmare.
Sounds like an over stimulation migraine, try noise canceling headphones and sunglasses. 😊 it took me longer than I'd like to admit to figure that one out lol
I grind my teeth and wear glasses (I also had orthodontics for 8 years, was very shy, quiet, and am autistic, so was always a 'weirdo') but what seemed to be the main cause was anxiety and stress. (diagnosed with social and general anxiety disorders) The anxiety caused headaches, migraines (resulting in missing nearly half a school year) high blood pressure, poor sleep, etc. I did CBT, DBT, and am taking medication (sertraline) and now most of those issues have resolved. (Still insomniac and anxious, but not many headaches/migraines or high blood pressure)
I have had migraines/headaches pore often than I'd like all my life. Many many culprits were found, from eye strain from strong light sources in general to dehydration. But I've NEVER thought of a headache journal. This is brilliant! Such a simple idea, so obvious... I'm annoyed at myself.
Tylenol: _You've turned them against me_ !!! Dr. Mike: You have done that yourself Tylenol: _You will not take them from me_ !!! Dr. Mike: Your overuse and rebound headaches have already done that...
I was a massage therapist for 8 years. I told everyone with headaches or neck pains to get the right pillow. I am SOOOO glad you mentioned this and the teeth thing! I gave this exact advice for 8 years and I'm glad a doctor is saying the same things! Thank you!!!
@@wonderwoman4726 it's sadly, mostly a guessing game. I am a side sleeper, so I need a bigger pillow. I have 2 kinds, one temprapedic and one I got from a chiropractor office. And I go back and forth.. Depending on firmness of your bed, how you sleep, and personal preferences makes a bit of a difference. General rule, side sleepers need more support so firmer and thicker is better, with a softer mattress (for your shoulder) and back sleepers need a soft pillow, if at all, and a firmer mattress. Really, a rolled up towel would be fine for back sleepers and it goes under the NECK not head. Stomach sleepers need a special pillow. It's called a face cradle and it's what used in massage so you don't have to look far left or right. Or I guess a neck pillow would work too. Hope that helps point you in the right direction at least. Without seeing you, it's the best I can say.
Me: *Takes painkillers two days in a row for a headache Dr. Mike: "*Painkillers can cause headaches if used too frequently*" Me: *Nervous sweating intensifies
It's OK. Usually the information in tgr packaging should tell you about maximum use. Otherwise consult medical staffs about these things. Won't hurt to know for the future
When I was pregnant I suffered horrible headaches and was given codine for them, I was taking up to 60mg 4 times a day in the end as I thought they were becoming less effective. Saw a new Dr and he told me that the codine was causing the headaches. I was told in the future, to contact a medical professional on day 3 if still needing painkillers
@@amiedawson7057 yeah I'm chronically ill and have swelling in my hands and feet that I regularly have to take ibuprofen for and I have to take medications to counteract the effects of my medications lol. It's a delicate balance when you have to take medication long term for pain.
What type of painkillers? The type can dictate how long you can take them before the potential for rebound or withdrawal effects set in. For instance, the most common type of medication to treat migraines is called a triptan (there are multiple varieties within this type) and assuming you don't have any underlying medical conditions, you can safely take up to NINE triptans in a month before suffering from rebound.
Dr Mike: “When we’re constantly straining our eyes for long periods of time, it can actually cause headache development” Me: has eyes that are super sensitive to light, lives in a very sunny state, and constantly straining my eyes just to see🧍♀️

Oh it was so nice to hear these things that can lead to headache since I'm having headaches everyday (I'm 17 and studying to be practical nurse) and while I watched this I'm having a headache
I'm the same I have a comfortable bed and 6 pillows and 3 blankets on my bed and I end up using which ever will be more comfortable for each sleep position. I've had days where I only sleep with a blanket as a pillow and such.
With online school and having to look at a screen for 6-7 hours straight I get headaches constantly also my eyes are 10000x worse than the beginning of 2020.
I first figured out that I'm prone to weather triggered migraines a number of years ago during a particular last stormy spring. The weather would be really nice for a few days, but then suddenly a storm would come along. A few hours or so before the storms would hit, the change in air pressure would cause me to have a migraine. I'd already had migraines for about a decade and had figured out most of my triggers, but this one eluded me. Then a friend who's also a sufferer of migraines told me about the weather thing, and I started putting the pieces together. It's the one migraine trigger I can't do anything about, but I've learned what works for me to minimise it. Other triggers for me are dark chocolate, caffeine from pop, especially Coca~Cola, old cheese, and being on my phone or laptop too much. At work I have to wear my hair back, at least when I'm doing tasks, and I wear a headband to keep the sweat out of my eyes. When I'm done with the start of shift tasks, that headband comes off, and I usually don't need it the rest of the shift, as my job is really, really quiet. I have to wear my hair back fairly tightly, but, like the headband, my hair is let loose when I'm not doing anything at work or just going on security checks (I work straight nights in a care facility for the elderly). Lately, because my hair is longer, I've started putting my ponytail back with a claw clip. This way I don't need my ponytail to be too tight, and it's a lot easier to put back. I used to wear very light perfumes, but I don't even do this anymore, both because I've developed a sensitivity to various scents, and because I know others who have this. For me, scents are mainly a breathing issue, but certain ones also trigger headaches for me. Thank-you, Doctor Mike, for putting videos out like this one.
Me wondering why I always get headaches: -lives in a place where the weather changes drastically every day ✅ -drinks caffeine every day ✅ -clenches teeth at night ✅ -side sleeper with cheap pillow ✅ -insomnia ✅ -loves cheese and wine ✅ Welp what can ya do ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
FYI I’ve been a clenched all my life. I could not control it. Starting taking amitryptaline for bladder pain and migraines and stopped clenching immediately.

@@DoctorMike It's my pleasure, Dr. Mike. Your videos have been super helpful to me. I just wanted to appreciate your efforts. I am glad you liked it :)
Weather is a big trigger for me. I do take RX meds when I get a bad migraine but ONLY when I can’t bear it without the meds, which only happens once or twice a month on average. My headaches are also definitely hereditary. My mom has them, my grandmother had them, and my siblings have them.
I once had a migraine for 3 days. At the time I couldn't take medicine, eat most food, or drink anything other than water. If had I drank anything other than water I would vomit. If I tried to take medicine I'd vomit. If I tried to get up to make food I'd vomit. If I ate anything other than soft food like porridge (cream of wheat) or chicken noodle soup I'd vomit. I was really hungry because I threw up all of my food I had just ate on the first day. (I ate dinner around 6:30pm) I had to sit there because I couldn't even get up and my mom walked into my room to check up on me at around 12:00pm. I told her I was really hungry and she made me porridge (cream of wheat). When I had this migraine I wouldn't get up unless I was really really hungry, really really thirsty, or really had to use to the restroom. I skipped eating lunch once because it was so bad that getting up wasn't possible. All I could do was sleep most of the time. I tried watching something on my phone like a CZcams video or Netflix but couldn't even do that. I was so bored during those 3 days that I just hoped to fall asleep again even when I just woke up. All I did was, go to the bathroom, eat, drink, and sleep. It was the worst.
You really should see a doctor - I have chronic migraines and I have to take prescription medication. It's not a thing that goes away on its own. Keeping a headache journal is great! I've had them for years so it's already a habit (I've gone through rounds of treatments for years) and it's really handy when you go see a doctor. It helps you notice certain patterns. Write down the date, time, intensity and duration of the headache, what pills you took, etc. Make notes of how many hours of sleep you got, and the quality of your sleep. Other things that help me are cold compresses when the codeine isn't enough (the ice really helps numbing it down enough so I can sleep), darkness (bright lights can be a trigger), and massages. Sometimes even a hot shower helps, too. But the very first thing my doctor had me do was fix my sleeping schedule. I thought it was useless but it really did help. And some people swear by acupuncture! Best wishes!
Same, there's not a single day where I go without a headache.. and I've looked up all the things to help, all the things that cause headaches, and I also have chronic illnesses that would cause these headaches.. it's almost unbearable and I don't even own a cellphone, I'm 33 years old and last time I had a phone was in 2009.. I'm on laptops and desktops a lot so I am in front of a screen majority of the time, but that doesn't explain the days where I'm never on a computer.. my senses are heightened though, and smells are too much for me at times, light hurts, severe sinus and allergy stuff.. sleep apnea with TMJ and teeth grinding/clenching, side sleeper propped up on 8-10 pillows, PCOS, endo, there's so much wrong with me lol.. I don't have caffeine that much... lol there's just no way for me to ever get help or be well, I've tried and doctors in my small southern town don't care, they just want my insurance money.
As a swedish opticians assistent im SO thrilled that you mentioned the 20-20-20 exercise 🙏 we tell our patients about this several times a day and has done so for years - especially children! Kids who look at cellphones alot can actually develop myopia later in life because of this. Also, the strain you put on your neck looking down at your phone... = headaches
I get migraines often and it’s true about the weather. When hurricane sally came through our area I got the worst headache of my life. Thanks barometric pressure 🥲
i was kind of hoping he’d kind of dive into the different kinds of headaches as well. i’ve been getting a lot of ice pick headaches and was hoping maybe he’d explain what causes those.
Ice pick? Like one sided feels like you are dying comes on without warning type? If so you might have clusters. I get them and they are murderous. O2 therapy is the only thing that helps.
I’ve had migraines since 1998 that I’ve been on Rx medications for. I can absolutely confirm that sleeping wrong and overusing medications can definitely trigger them. Strong, chemical smells (like a permanent markers), and bright lights in a dark room (TV or Phone on, while rest of the lights are off), also trigger them. One thing about the medication use though, it’s important that doctors do not immediately cut patients off of these medications, because this causes pain and stigma. Don’t over-prescribe, but also know there are patients with legitimate pain who use (not abuse) medications responsibly, and hurting these patients due to abusers (a completely separate group of people), is not fair and causes more pain in people with actual pain. I’ve seen this, and I’ve experienced this.
I have headaches almost every day, I have headaches more often than I don’t. They normally start with a dizzy/light headed feeling and then pain starts on one side of my head and moves across. It’s been like this for YEARS. No one can figure out why besides it maybe being hormonal. I’m so so so sick of headaches
Honestly same, although I'm young, I just can't believe that Im dehydrated. Ive been getting headaches all day, I honestly want help, but no ones there to help me.
I have migraines almost every day. No one can figure out what's going on, and when migraine is really bad, I lose eyesight, I vomit and I feel like I want to die... Tight band over my head, helps me sleep through the night (in the sitting position - because when I lie down it gets worse). I started drinking more - 1 cup of water every 30 minutes and it got a bit better, maybe you should try it too. I have a head MRI tomorrow, so wish me luck. Hopefully we won't find anything.

The first reason for the trigger you mentioned already helps me out alot because I wear prescription glasses which I grew out of. Just lets me know that I better pick up my new glasses cause these old glasses most likely gives me all these headaches I am getting. You're great doctor.
For me it always seems to be when I'm stressed and have a lot of stuff to do, which makes the headaches extra annoying because they make it more difficult to be productive and get stuff done

I found a correlation to all the items that you stated. I pay attention to what I do prior to my headache and pretty much self diagnose, as to why! The only thing I’m not guilty of is too many Tylenol, I actually take excedrin which is soooo bad for you…. I try to drink a ton of water, it seems to soothe my headache. 'Perfumes trigger migraines' but for me, any uncomfortable scents can cause my headaches(including perfumes). It's becoming worse when my nose is very sensitive to small changes of smell
Dr. Mike, can you talk about the difference between migraines and headaches? I am a chronic migraine sufferer and I think people often just think of them as "bad headaches" when they affect the whole body and can be really debilitating.
I formally worked at mattress places. Take your pillows, wear comfy clothes and try each bed out for at least 10-15 minutes how you actually sleep. Also remember floor model beds have been broke in so the mattress you get from the warehouse will be firmer than what you tried out!

10 more triggers according to my migraine journal:
1. Red wine (specifically)
2. Citrus
3. Excess sugar consumption
4. Dehydration
5. Not enough sleep
6. Too much sleep
7. Ovulation
8. Menstruation
9. Stress
10. Bright lights (bright direct sunlight, spotlights, headlights)
Despite my efforts, I still have around 15 migraine days per month. I’m finally taking steps in seeking treatment and hoping to find a solution! I want my life back!
MSG is a bad trigger for clusters, i would imagine it affects migrains the same way
A suggestion (noting it could be wrong) looking at your list…investigate mast cell disorders and mast cells generally. They absolutely cause migraine (and ironically migraine can cause mast cell issues) but I’d have a look into this. Note: it comes under an immune system issue. And mast cells behave slightly differently in all different parts of body. Why is it helpful? Because the treatment is radically different!! Good luck!

Dawg I have to get up at five💀😭 AM IN THE MORNINGGGGGG
As a human biologist, I think we're not really aware how sleep influences our brain. Bad sleep quality cannot only cause headaches but also induces changes in brain activity. If we sleep less than 7 hours a night over a long period of time it can even lead to a decrease of new cells in the hippocampus which is important for forming memory (I just made a video about this). Bad sleep quality can even contribute towards symptoms which are seen in Alzheimers disease..
That’s really interesting! I didn’t know that at all! I’m going to have to go watch your video.

I heard a Dr say recently that it's lack of salt for 90 percent of his patients. He gives them a glass of salt water to drink and their migraines disappear. Hope this helps. Also get a good salt if you can. Like pink salt it has natural trace minerals the body needs.

I get chronic migraines. When I was younger my mom would call me “the human barometer” because I’d get an awful migraine before thunderstorms. Now I can feel it in my face when a storm is coming.
Interesting. I get them too and sometimes it’s due to seasons or food
Me too!
My mom calls me this now
Me too, sort of. 😂

Yeah exactly in migraine perfume smell kills.

What type of painkillers? The type can dictate how long you can take them before the potential for rebound or withdrawal effects set in. So, my mom is a self taught doctor and she tells me all my headaches are caused by, and I quote," el pinche teléfono"

I honestly don’t remember a day in the past year where I haven’t had a headache 🤕
Best wishes!
have you solved your headaches dear?
@@annadymusiccovers not really. It’s unfortunately a side effect of my illness, which is chronic.
Me too I’m so sick of these headaches! 🤕
Me: trying to learn english
Dr. Mike: to stop cold turkey, cup of Joe
He means stop drinking coffee lmao. English is one hell of a language good luck learning
@@coastalalpaca852 hahah thanks
@@marcelosantos5683 I wish you good luck.
"stop cold turkey" means like stop immediately without question. "cup of joe" is a slang term for a cup of coffee. :)
@@alexalasalle lol I thought it’s a brand haha 😂
Also “tech neck” can create headaches. Make sure your devices are raised high enough to keep your neck in a neutral position.
I didn't know there was a name for that ohmygod I get tech neck all the time
I think that my teeth grinding is causing pain in my life. Thank you so much for the information Doc, you're a life-savior.
Doctor Mike has NEVER sounded more like a New Yorker than when he said, “Parmesan”! 😂🤣😂🤣
It sounded super cute 😍😭
Idk what you're talking about, that's how most Americans pronounce it.
Dr Mike : you’re not getting enough sleep
Me: comes off a night shift with a headache and need to sleep- ooh let me watch this video first!
Literally me right now
Ik this is a joke but get that sleep chief
Lol yep
Can’t forget high blood pressure will cause headaches. That is of one of the check engine lights
Me discovering that my brother is not the cause of my headaches 👁👄👁
Nutting 7 times per day is the cause of my headaches
i was kind of hoping he’d kind of dive into the different kinds of headaches as well. i’ve been getting a lot of ice pick headaches and was hoping maybe he’d explain what causes those.
Ice pick? Like one sided feels like you are dying comes on without warning type? If so you might have clusters. I get them and they are murderous. O2 therapy is the only thing that helps.
I have to agree, I thought he was going to describe a few different headaches and explanations. Maybe that's another video
Agreed, or my neck pops? And worlds biggest most painful headache
I have ice pick headaches too! I searched so much for the causes on the web but the articles said they’re not known😫
Same
I have migraines almost every day.
@@patrycjamroczek7036 That’s scary. I should definitely try drinking more water. My migraines are dizziness and a lot of pain but nothing close to what it sounds like you’re experiencing. I hope everything’s alright!❤️
@@sophia.rose420 you should try to drink more, and maybe give up some foods that you may be allergic to. I've had the same symptoms as you, bit I was 14 years old at that time, and each year it got worse and worse... Don't let it overcome your life, start seeking help now - not when you are at my point ;)
"Keep that cellphone a little further away"
But I'm almost blind so I've to be almost inside my phone otherwise I won't see shit 😂
Literally same !!
I felt this
Paper I have to keep close, I can zoom in on text on my cell phone at least.
Sameeeee
Ok, go to your local eye doctor or optometrist and get glasses
Who disliked this he’s literally helping us....
People without headache or watching too close to the screen
@@Icon1306 lol 😂
He told them to drink less caffeine lol
No I disliked this because my dog pulled a gun to me and told me to lick his b***s and dislike this
@@SkylerIsHellaBored WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL.
The first reason for the trigger you mentioned already helps me out alot because I wear prescription glasses which I grew out of. Just lets me know that I better pick up my new glasses cause these old glasses most likely gives me all these headaches I am getting. You're great doctor.
When you google your symptoms for a headache after 6 hours of online school and you find out that you have type § testicular diabetes in your leg:👁👄👁
Google is such a drama queen
I legit had a panic attack as it said I should be dead.
Lmao! Mind if I borrow that one? Next time one of my patients (I'm an EMT) tries to tell me they Googled their symptoms, I wanna use that.
Yeha no prob!
Thought the first one was going to be girlfriends 😆 just kidding!
Haha, I’m sure arguing with your partner in either direction can be a cause of headaches

For non-Americans: acetaminophen (Tylenol) = paracetamol.
Yeah it’s a shame they have to confuse the rest of us with “Tylenol”
Thank youu!
For me it always seems to be when I'm stressed and have a lot of stuff to do, which makes the headaches extra annoying because they make it more difficult to be productive and get stuff done
me before watching: it's just a headache
me after watching: see you in the afterlife
All these stuff I don’t do/use it do right. I was like “this doesn’t explain why I always get headaches” then weather game up. I love Michigan. It can be 40 degrees one day and 80 the next. Sooo uhhhhhh headaches come frequently-

Everyone: Coffee is very dehydrating and being dehydrated can cause headaches.
Me: Oh ok _[stops drinking coffee]_
Dr Mike: *Coffee withdrawal can cause headaches.*
Me: 👁👄👁
you can still drink tea, he said caffine, tea also has caffine.
Caffeine withdrawal not coffee is what he said. He just used coffee as an example.
Mix coffee with tea
I used to be drink two cups of coffee everyday, but I stopped doing that half a year ago. Yes, the headaches was ...ugh... But I start drink tea and have a cup of coffee once or twice a week. I feel so much better
I actually read somewhere that coffee isn't dehydrating as people think, and counts as water intake.
Cheese, never gives me a headache but great to know. You did not mention too much sugar. I find if I have too much sugar I get a serious pounding headache. I guess that’s just me. Again, thank you for being such a great and accurate doctor! Appreciate you!
YOU'RE TELLING ME THAT MY LOVE FOR CHEESE IS WHAT HAS BEEN GIVING ME HEADACHES AND MIGRAINES MY WHOLE LIFE 🤯
Alcohol and dairy together make me sick 😬
'Perfumes trigger migraines' but for me, any uncomfortable scents can cause my headaches(including perfumes). It's becoming worse when my nose is very sensitive to small changes of smell
Dr. Mike, can you talk about the difference between migraines and headaches? I am a chronic migraine sufferer and I think people often just think of them as "bad headaches" when they affect the whole body and can be really debilitating.
I totally 2nd this! I've had migraines since I was 6 years old.
I formally worked at mattress places. Take your pillows, wear comfy clothes and try each bed out for at least 10-15 minutes how you actually sleep. Also remember floor model beds have been broke in so the mattress you get from the warehouse will be firmer than what you tried out!
