- This collection of graphics were used by NBC for NBA telecasts during the 1991-1992 season. This was sourced from a tape used in the remote truck, which I then archived on S-VHS.
Music is "Roundball Rock" which was composed for one-time "Entertainment Tonight" anchor John Tesh. You can see him performing it live here: • The Untold Story Behin... - Krátké a kreslené filmy
This is GLORIOUS. Thank you! That energetic John Tesh theme paired with those flashy 3D graphics were STELLAR in 1992! I was never much of a sports fan but I have this recorded on VHS numerous times just so that I could one day look back on it and smile- but you've gone the whole 9 yards! You don't know how happy this makes someone like me! You're the BEST!
You’re making me blush!
What sports? If you're talking to me at 9 years old in 1991 1992 these were superheroes I was watching LOL
That NBA on NBC intro has more in common with the X-Men animated series intro then a sports show lol
I miss my 90s childhood. Watching the NBA on NBC meant watching Michael Jordan and the voice of Marv Albert.
What a spectacular move by Michael Jordan!!! Yes!!!
Heck yeah.
GOAT music 🎶🐐🏆
It’s coming back
It’s back in 25-26!
Thank you for this. This belongs in a television museum alongside Jim Fagan's iconic "This... is the NBA on NBC!"
'Roundball Rock' by John Tesh & 'Sirius' by Alan Parsons Project were THE 2-song NBA soundtrack in the 90s. Tesh helped to glide you in to an afternoon of basketball, and Parsons Project reminded you that Michael Jordan was going to be the M.C. for the day. =)
And yes, once 'Sirius' played, the Bulls already had a 20-point lead at the tip. XD
Should note, this version of Roundball Rock used on telecasts is different than the original track that everyone shares and that FOX is using for College Basketball. The original track is more repetitive. This version used on NBC for games and promos is the version everyone is seeking.
NBC was Definitely NBC whenever the NBA came on and that Peacock forming then you knew it was time for the NBC On NBC. Bob Costas and Marv Albert were the main guys Marv Albert called every NBA Finals 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 01, 02 and Bob Costas called it in 98, 99 and 2000. Either way it was the best era in our time. We know we ain’t gonna see it again for the foreseeable future but it just brings our memories back when we were younger.
Yes we will, coming 2025.
This is the clearest and sharpest I've ever seen these.
Thank you so much for preserving this.
I will always love the NBA on NBC because it gave us the theory and it made us have our hoop dreams. NBA and NBC will likely to be reunited in 2025 when their current deal is done because they want better broadcasting.
You're the real MVP for having the foresight to archive this stuff- it's a shame that the source material was either destroyed or is locked up somewhere to rot. Beautiful quality as always, it really shines given that the source was directly from the source and not over the air.
And of course as I've said before, thanks for taking the time to properly digitise at the best quality possible. Just fantastic stuff!
Thanks so much for the kind words. I really love this kind of stuff, and was lucky to have a lot of friends at various places who would send me things on broadcast formats. Unclear to me why I only have an S-VHS copy of these NBA graphics -- I would have surely received it on 1-inch, or more likely, Betacam SP at that time.

@Shane Harris NJ Thanks man.
The musical theme is called 'Roundball Rock' and is composed by John Tesh.
And sung by Dave Tesh
Ba ba ba ba ba basketball
Gimme gimme gimme the ball
Because I’m gonna
Dunk it!
Good knowledge! I'll add that information to the description.
Too Bad NBC Sports is no longer allowed to use Roundball Rock because Fox Sports is using it for College Basketball Games.
Here in Northern California NBC Sports Local edition does air the NBA on NBC with Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings but they have to use a different theme with some references to Roundball rock.

@@VPR2B and here's a bonus fact about John Tesh, He composed both the 1989-91 NFL on NBC theme (Gridiron Dreams) and he even composed the theme song to one of 20th Century Fox's flagship shows of the 1990s... the Film Roman produced Fox Saturday cartoon "Bobby's World" (1990-98) starring Howie Mandel and the late great Tino Insana.
You knew shit was going down when this intro came on 🤘💥☠️

You're watching the NBA on NBC.
Oh, the days when Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls were dominating the NBA Finals with 6 titles in the 1990s. Oh, the childhood memories.

Wow the quality is fantastic given the age and medium it was record on. Fantastic. Have any more NBA on NBC or 90s NBC sports stuff coming?
Thanks for the compliment! I think that’s about all I have as far as NBC Sports goes. I have some World Series stuff from various networks, going back to 1977, but it’s all off-air from Betamax. I may upload it though.
@@VPR2B That stuff is cool too!
Privileged and honored to have been bless to experience that era. Gone are the good old days.
B-b-b-b-b-basketball,

YEAH! WOO!
@@matthewsprague4904It’s always a magical feeling when I encounter a fellow fan of the lyrical genius of the great Dave Tesh.
Every time I hear this I think about Michael Jordan
And Roundball Rock has gotten a new life...as Fox Sports College Basketball theme song.
0:48 my favorite part of the song
Best intro ever. This belongs to a Museum
The NBA On NBC intro, theme and NBA Film clips would be used on the Midway Games 1990’s Basketball arcade & console video game: “NBA Hang-time: NBA On NBC” @ 0:01-0:47.
I'm now a truck worker for today's broadcasting world. Working at a universoty as the production coordinator. This is worth more than a truck program feed in my opinion
What a spectacular move by Michael Jordan!!! Yes!!!
I'd never thought I'd see anything from the NBA on NBC on here in 60fps. It's this and one other thing here on CZcams that have hit that mark. Great upload! Brings back many memories. Out of curiosity, would you happen to know the name of the company or individuals who produced this graphics package? This work is too nice for them to go unnoticed.
Unfortunately I don't know who produced this, but it is nice work to be sure!
@@VPR2B For sure. I enjoyed watching this. It really took me back to watching the NBA when me and my folks got together with my family on special occasions. Looking forward to more great stuff!
They should revamp this
1990-91 as well.
Best opening of theme music of any sport and with Marv Albert. Glory days of the NBA. It was about team rivalries and not ring chasing and individual accolades like today
Back when the nba was the NBA

The NBA was at its height back then.
@0:01-0:09 that animation of the nbc peacock’s my favorite part
It is great, isn’t? So nice.
@@VPR2B they should have use that for any sporting events of tv specials
I’ve always wanted to know what the music used there is. It’s not on Tesh’s release of Roundball Rock, and I’ve always wondered if it was culled from something else.
This was from 1991-92 season..
Thanks -- I'll update the title.
In that picture, when Lakers guard Magic Johnson was retired in the 1991-92 season because Chris Mullin of the Golden State Warriors was replaced on the picture of that graphic..
Hello Everyone, I'm Aaron Ladner, and Welcome to A CURRENT AFFAIR
Did anyone keep up with the bassist? Those fingers were MOVING!!
This is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing! Any chance you can rip the audio to a lossless format like wav or FLAC and share?
Here you go: we.tl/t-9K7DhN1STZ -- be advised though that the original capture was done to DVD, and the audio was encoded as 256 kbps AC3. I demuxed that from the video file and converted it to the WAV you'll find at the link.
Thanks so much for this! This is great! Do you happen to have a video of the tv theme cut that was used for the latter part of NBA on NBC? It runs about 1:08. If so, are you able to rip that to wav too and provide a link?
This is the additional cut I’m referring too: czcams.com/video/wf9Zwtihkds/video.html
@@digi-it6oc Sorry to say that what I uploaded here is all that is in my collection.

Wonder if they will update the graphics AND use the theme music when NBC starts showing games……
NBC did contact John Tesh if they can use “Roundball Rock” and graphics wise? They’ll definitely use a graphic style similar to Sunday Night Football.
@@josephedrictiamson He said he wants to ‘update it’.

Crazy how NBA on NBC Still exists but its on the regional level. Whenever Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings season games are on the Regional NBC Sports outlet airs them like NBC Sports Bay Area and NBC Sports California. Too Bad NBC can't use Roundball Rock anymore given that Fox Sports has it for College Basketball Games. NBC Sports has to use a different cut for the NBA on NBC Sports Regional.
