I love that it wasn't "a lyrics first song" for 30 years, and now suddenly I can't hear this song without the lyrics.
John Tesh said today on LeBatard that NBC reached out to ask about using Roundball Rock and I immediately started singing the lyrics.

Sudeikis recently showed this sketch to his kids and now they randomly sing the song during their day which is just about the best thing.
It was my alarm music for a while. I always woke up ready to rock at Tesh-thirty.

After watching Tim’s other sketch shows, he has such an intensely unique identity with his writing. He is so absurdly wrong and unmovable on his position and the sketch goes wildly off the rails so quickly… I love it

If you ask me, this sketch is perfect from start to end. It's a shame Tim Robinson didn't flourish more on SNL. To think of what sketches could have been. But his work since has been aces so, that's definitely something.

It ended up working out - I Think You Should Leave on Netflix is spectacular and now I'm seeing Tim being interviewed by his old SNL friends/bosses like Seth Meyers. Edit: I didn't even realize Ted Lasso is in this too. This sketch was way ahead of its time.

I laughed out loud very hard when they gave each other high fives in the middle of the jingle. Tim Robinson was such a great SNL player. Shame he left, but his show Detroiters on Comedy Central is excellent!!

NBC brought back Roundball Rock for Olympics hoops coverage. Whenever I hear it, I just keep thinking about how Dave Tesh got done dirty.
Fox uses it now too. Makes things fun when I'm watching basketball when my wife (who's not the biggest sports fan) is in the room because we sing the lyrics together 😂

I used to be one of those people who said "SNL isn't funny anymore" or "SNL isn't as funny as it used to be." Then, one day, the CZcams algorithm starting showing me so many great SNL skits and there are tons of really funny ones. This one is easily one of my favorites.

Sudeikis quickly going to play the sad music after missing the cue, then going in for the hug while it's still playing is really helping me get through the day

Not even close. I'm guessing you're too young to remember the 84-85 "all-star" cast with Billy Crystal, Christopher Guest, and Martin Short...not to mention Chris Elliott and David Koechner a decade later. Robinson may be a moderate success now...but he was just horrible on SNL. He's definitely in the bottom 10 or so of all time...but at least he's ahead of Jerry Minor and Rob Riggle!!

He's fine, some of his new stuff especially is funny. Detroiters was...okay at best. Lol this video has 1.5m views, there's like 300 SNL sketches with 8m+ views for a reason. While the majority isn't always right, there's definitely something to be said that this sketch is literally 1/10th as popular as hundreds of other SNL sketches. Humor is one of the few things where the majority just tends to get it right. This simply isn't that good and certainly isn't some good performance by Robinson.
