    As a PC gamer that has played VR since the Oculus DK2 I can say this headset is extremely user friendly. Connecting a steering wheel, shifter, psvr2 and then playing Gran Turismo 7 involved no driver installs or any complicated set ups. It only took a few minutes to plug everything in it and then you are in the game playing. It only needs more software.

I've even been using it to play standard games while on the couch when my gf watches TV. That has been a nice feature as well.

    Great job comparing with Quest Pro. I use my Quest Pro for PC SIM and it was a hussle to set up and configure properly. The standalone feature is nice, but image quality is nothing compared to tethered PC connection. Meta needs to learn alot from Sony regards simplicity of the first user experience. But I still like my Quest Pro, the open fit style is perfect for glasses and is great with fitness apps. The pancake lenses are superior and the future in my opinion. No small fitting sweet spot needed and you have edge to edge clarity. Thx Phil!

    • @SnakeHelah
      @SnakeHelah Před rokem +3

      One of the main reasons i got the psvr2 is it's just plug and play. PCVR just doesn't have that so easily sadly as there's different levels of customization and all that. Starting from the approach of the connection wireless/wired (meta headsets are no longer standalone but stream the data as well) to the settings of the headset itself to the settings of the game itself to the specs of your PC. just so many variables that it's not that easy to control it all compared to the PSVR2 that is just plug and play.
      Of course, the sacrifice of this is PSVR2 is running on PS5 which is inherently not capable of what a 4090 can produce in terms of visuals.

    I am currently a PS4 gamer (and PC enthusiast so the crossover is real Phil!!!!!) and I have the 1st gen PS VR (that does not support HDR pass though to the TV). I had a lot of fun with it, but TBH have it disconnected now and have not used it in a while. The setup/connectivity with the breakout box and the camera and having to use the Wand controllers isn't ideal - for me. This V2 set with the ring controllers looks like a game changer to me and this may be my trigger to move to PS5. (I delayed moving from PS3 to PS4 until the games I wanted weren't available on PS3 anymore and my thinking for PS4 to PS5 has been the same. If this V2 headset doesn't run on PS4, or the games that it goes best with will struggle on PS4, then this may be my birthday present all sorted now!!!!) Thanks Phil, Great job sir.

      like the first PSVR you could just hook up to a PC as a secondary monitor so they mainly had to hack in the tracking and motion controls and shit.
      PSVR2 seems to use some kind proprietary Displayport over USB protocol that only works with the PS5. think they would have to write PC drivers for this from scratch and Sony probably uses encryption and shit as well...

    Great video Phil, thanks :) I just got my PSVR2 and it's my first VR headset. Gran Turismo 7 in VR is worth the money alone imo. BUT there has been a lot of BS spoken about how clear the image is and I'd like to see more people manage newbies expectations better, as your review did. For those new to VR: You do not get the clarity in the headset that you do on your tv screen or in the screen caps most streamers use, nothing like it. That said, once you've accepted the technologies limitation and reset "what's normal" (remember, I'm a total VR noob) you can quickly still come to love it. I have a lot of mobility problems due to poor health, and being able to slip the headset on and just be somewhere else entirely is so liberating. I'm seriously considering buying a PCVR headset too now, just so I can experience all of the games that are available - the PS lineup is still pretty poor right now, but I bet they'll catch up fairly fast with the odd exclusive thrown in for good measure.

      If you're going to get into PCVR, wait a year or so for decent headsets with eye tracking to come out because those headsets will have far superior specs to current gen headsets (will blow the PSVR2 out of the water in clarity and color) and can use dynamic foveated rendering like the PSVR2 does to reduce compute overhead, giving you higher FPS.

    • @SnakeHelah
      @SnakeHelah Před rokem +2

I did see some promising development being done in that direction though.

Lately I've had some problems with running games at a stable frame rate. I found a reddit post regarding a fix for stuttering or hitching, it was to exclude your game folders and or steam folder in virus and threat protection in windows security. It's worked for games like Monster hunter rise, Kingdom hearts 3 and a plethora of other titles. Is there an explanation to this? I think you touched upon in one of your videos to deactivate windows defender when running benchmarks. AMD GPUs get a bad rep for stuttering and hitching and there are times I doubt my card. I loved PSVR1. I knew PSVR2 would not be backwards compatible.
    But DANG I didn't know how much that lack of content at launch would suck out loud.
    There is so little to do right now, including the most ubiquitous cross-VR-platform experiences, even CZcams360 videos, Netflix, or a single flight simulator of any kind to test a HOTAS joystick (No Man's Sky has flight but was never made to work with a joystick). Even Gran Turismo 7 is identical design-wise to the same experience we've been having for years in GT Sport; it's a better experience, but mainly from *removal* of the hardware limitations, rather than adding anything (other than "VR replay," which admittedly isn't what it sounds like). Even the missing in-race data exclusive to VR mode in GT Sport is still absent here (our racing league consequently requires at least one person to not be in VR to record points for scoring). In the "Horizon" game, you never use a focus, the in-game augmented reality system that would have really made this game sing & was narratively *essential* for the entire series.
    The first thing you see after setting up the PSVR2? A virtual flat screen. It feels like the ultimate poetic justice for what honestly feels like a completely misguided & unplanned launch & I just don't get it after Sony showed so much support for VR. The future is *likely* bright for the PSVR2, but for now it feels like a massively missed opportunity at launch. Nintendo proved software matters more than hardware, as did PSVR1. Fingers crossed.
