- This is one of the final 8 reviews of the Better Beer Authority. I think Gumballhead is a great summer wheat beer and a great session beer year-round. Will the panel agree with my assessment in a blind taste test? Gumballhead from Three Floyds is one of the flagship beers from the second-highest rated brewery in the world. It's worth tasting if you can get your hands on it.

Partial Transcript: "On Tap -- Gumballhead
Hi. I'm James Knott and this is your Better Beer Authority. Today we are drinking Gumballhead Wheat Beer from Three Floyds Brewing in Munster Indiana. This beer was purchased from the brewery by our good buddy Kevin Kling and is being reviewed in a blind taste test format within 2 weeks of purchase.
The brewery was founded in 1996 by two brothers, Nick and Simon, and their father, Mike Floyd. The brewery is the second highest rated brewery in the world on Ratebeer.com for 2013.
Gumballhead is an American Wheat Beer and is one of Three Floyds lighter offerings at 5.6% ABV and 35 IBUs. It was originally a summer seasonal beer, but they turned it into a year-round offering based on high demand.
It's full of red wheat and Amarillo hops and the brewery says it has a lemony finish. It's a little hazy and that's because it is bottle-conditioned. You can drink it out of a pint glass, but if you want to get fancy then pour it into a weizen glass.
Let the blind taste test begin."
Thanks!
I agree with you guys about the quality of the food at FFF's brewpub....really amazing!
nice video as always
Gumballhead and Zombie Dust are my favorites.
Delicious brew. Three Floyds really does well. Just had their Apocalypse Cow and Permanent Funeral. Amazing stuff.
three floyds makes some great artwork for their beer labels
So agree - James Knott doesn't know how cool the BBA really is...totally bummed...
Bryant Gumblehead?
Summer wheat beer..... LOL. Gumballhead is a Pale Wheat, and started the trend,
I dont know why but its taste reminded me of pine trees..
I did enjoy this. But while I did, I would not seek it out like other Three Floyd offerings. I am becoming jaded with people really getting crazy into it.That is just me as I do not consume much like others. I get flack all the time for my love of Italian craft but others are too defensive in their craft love.
R.I.P. BBA !!! By far the only beer reviews on youtube that I can sit the whole time and be excited about what i'm watching. I'm not trying to discretid or hate on all the other guys out there doing tremendous work with their web clips, but I will definitly miss the 4 guy ''in studio'' format BBA offered... especially the blind tests. Once again, R.I.P. BBA
Zombie Dust and Alpha Klaus are two of my all time favorite beers.
@Tony tooty Pale Wheat? I think people call it what they will. American Hefeweizen, American Wheat, etc... It hardly started a trend, though, and certainly there are better than Gumballhead: Lagunitas A Lil' Sumpin' Sumpin' ale and New Glarus Imperial Wheat to name two.
true I love flyods
U guys are done with the beer reviews??? Shit thats why i subscribed in the first place
Gumballhead and Bruce is, IMO, FFF's "worst" beers. And by worst I mean less than a 9 or 10 like the rest of them. Having said that, for a summer wheat it is outstanding.
Y U GOTTA GO N STAHP MAKEN VIDEOZ!?
Great review as usual fellas (also....diggin' the hat Ryan). I really enjoy this beer and was probably even more impressed with the flavors because it was a Wheat Ale. Perfect for the summer. Elevator Mogabi is also really good I think.
We still have 7 more episodes, so stick with us until the end.
Thanks for the nice comment. We may still post videos from time-to-time, but it will definitely be less frequently. I'm having a hard time keeping up with the once-a-week schedule.
"Gumblehead"
So you prefer Pride & Joy, Calumet Queen, and Jinx Proof over Gumballhead and Bruce..... Boy you craaaaaayzie
Unfortunately, my favorite wheat beer was "Wall Street Wheat" from the now defunct Mishawaka Brewery. Just the right amount of lemon flavor, not sure if it was from the hops alone or with a little lemon juice. Much better than any of the lemon flavor enhanced wheat beers in the last 10-years, that I've tasted.
Not one certified judge on the panel.. WTH?
Kevin has got it right.
FFF is that, drink up, you won't find much better.
Bring BBA back!!!
no, pride and joy is decent, Alpha King, Apocalypse Cow are much better. But again, were talking FFF here...their worst beer is better than most bests of others.
Kevin has got it right.
