I've had a Mckie Micro Series 1202 for my home studio for years and recently upgraded to the ProFx12V3 - what a new world, love it - and which is why I watched this video, to learn a little more about the new Fx and now to get it all synched up with PC. You helped push me to dig into the Fx and cool Aux/USB feature - way cleaner than my old setup of routing PC audio back out through my audio interface, then out of interface through line out to the mixer 😳😳😳😳 - there's alot less buzz and snap, crackle and pop now.
Anyway, I had also recently bought a used FroFx16 (not v3) for my band gigs... and really liked it but afterr watching this video and getting more into the V3 festures, I went yesterday and sold the non V3 model and found a used (excellent condition) FroFX16V3.
So now I'm the proid owner of ProFX12V3 for home studio and ProFX16V3 for the road.
I'm looking forward to gigging with the ProFX16V3 and using some of the effects -- and the onboard compression is a plus!!!
One thing I haven't done is connect the V3 to my Reaper DAW - I imagine the entire mix is all coming in as 1 or 2 channels - not all separate channels. Meaning - although it's an audio interface, it's not going to be a replacement for my 4 channel Scarlett for recording 2 guitars and vox on separate tracks simultaneously.
Anyway - appreciate you time and again great video - clear, concise and accurate! New to the channel, subscribed and looking forward to more - as you know, gear is never a destination, it's a never ending journey!
Take it easy - hope you and yours have a safe and happy new year -- as we welcome 2021 with open arms and open minds.

    Brilliant video Greg.
I bought one of these and was communicating with a chap called Cramer at Mackie because I couldn't make head nor tail of it.
Floundering around I stumbled on your clear and concise explanation. I wrote to Cramer that Mackie should sponsor you to make them an instructional video because their manual is dire. Almost every section of their manual says 'does not apply to the ProFX6v3', or words to that effect. Also the section on input says to NOT enable the device as the default, which caused me no end of trouble as you HAVE to enable the device as default to get any signals back and forth.
Anyway, thank you so much for preserving my sanity, especially the perverse 'USB 1/2 for headphones but USB 3/4 for speakers, controlled by knob 5/6'. You couldn't make it up.
Love the parrot, who 'is' a pretty boy, lol.

Thanks Neville, truly inspiring comment. It’s why I do it. I would love to make such a connection with Mackie. Indeed the Manual is poor. If you flip me this Cramer fella’s email I will follow up with them. would like to build that relationship.
Best of luck and I’m hear if you have a question.
      Thanks.

@@GregintheBox: Thanks for the reply, we don't always know if comments get read.
Cramer's email is simply 'support@mackie.com' and Cramer is down as a level 2 technical support. Quote me and he should have a record of our emails.
Looking at your climb in viewers it seems obvious to me that Mackie have missed something here and there are a lot of confused peeps searching for answers to how to make this thing fly.
I have now got this working great, so, persevere folks Greg shows the way. And if we all contact Mackie they may help Greg do something about the poor instructions.
I've found that Traktion Waveform works best for me with this mixer, others may find different.

Greg - very useful video! I have one question for you. You've got USB 3-4 coming through (on mixer channels 5-6) so that you can hear the other participants in your Zoom call, but that source will also be mixed into what's being sent to the computer as well, right? (Because, as far as I can tell, the main mix that you're hearing in your headphones is also the very same mix that is being sent via USB to the "Line (proFX)" input on your computer.
Is that the reason that in your Zoom audio settings you left the echo cancellation enabled?
But what if I don't want the other Zoom participants to hear the various other alert sounds from my computer? There's no way to make sure that I can hear them in my headphones while preventing them from being sent out on my stream, is there? (Short of adding a second mixer just for the headphone mix...)

Hi Larry, how are you able to send the Mackie Mixer output TO your MacBook? I have tried a lot (and I know that the USB cable and the port on the Macbook are perfectly fine) but I cannot get the signal going to MacBook. The computer detects it as ProFx right away.

@@pinaklonkar I am rewriting - I did have a hard time recording the first time. Now that I think about it. I had to get the settings right. I have a 2019 MacBook Pro running macOS Catalina 10.15.6 with two thunderbolt ports. . I use either the USB-C Digital AV Multiport adapter ($69.00 from the Apple Store.) This has my external HDMI monitor and the power cable and the USB-A connection from the Mackie plugged in.) You can also use the $19.00 USB to USB-C adapter as well. Then I plug my headphones into the headphone jack on the Mackie. I also have my Bose amplified computer speakers plugged into the headphone jack on the Mac. When I am connected to zoom or teams - I can use that 3/4 button that is near the bottom center - inside the 5/6 area labeled switch (I know -weird). to hear the voices coming back from Zoom or Teams. (This is what I was missing until I watched some videos on CZcams) Because I didn't know how to hear the voices that came back from the computer mixed with mine.
You can click on Sound preferences under the speaker symbol on the top bar - and choose both input and output on that screen. (you can also go to system preferences -> sound -> and toggle between sound effects/output/input. Then choose Output and select the mackie. The choose Input and select the mackie. ) Make sure you are getting both the input and output settings for the Mackie and plug your headphones or speakers into the Mackie (not the headphone jack of the computer). Since its recognizing it - Maybe its giving you one as you say and leaving the other set to something else. I could take some screenshots but I don't know how to post them to this forum. if this does' t make sense/work - write back here and we will figure it out.

Greg, THANK YOU! I was tasked with producing a 'concert' via zoom. I thought it would be pretty simple but it tuned out to be more complicated than I imagined. After buying the wrong mixer I was pointed toward the ProFX6 v3 by a very helpful rep from BH Photo but once I got it I discovered it wasn't 100% plug & play. This video addressed everything I needed very nicely. Thanks again Greg.

I am a happy owner of this mixer, the Mackie ProFX6v3; I love to sing karaoke and used to record songs connecting this mixer to my laptop. However, it only sends out 2 USB channels. So I now do my recording with an EVO 8 which allows 4 USB channels. I use Cakewalk to record. But that said, unless I'm doing any recording, I continue to enjoy using the Mackie; I love the sound quality of its Mic preamps. The reverb though needs quite some experimentation to get right. Lastly, this Mackie now has fierce competition from a new Yamaha Mixer/Interface, the AG06 Mk 2, just released. It also has 2 USB channels and not 4.

Greg--this video is extremely helpful. I have been having a problem using the mixer and OBS with my MacBook Pro. When recording and streaming, the sound coming from the mixer is almost inaudible it is so quiet. When listening through my headphones it is mixed perfectly, but then the sound (mostly voice through mic) is so low. I have to increase the gain to 100 percent to get anything that is decent, but then there is all sorts of clipping and distortion. Have you noticed audio problems coming through the USB interface at all? Do you have any advice?

Any idea how to solve latency issues with monitoring the I/O of the USB? I just started getting familiar with the profx12v3 and was doing some test recording and the analog signals have some serious latency, the vocal sounds robotic to severely delayed, the digital audio track playing seems to be just fine (setting buffer down to 8 samples cleans up most of it) I am just wondering if maybe I missed a knob or a button somewhere to clean it up. ( recording using waveform, haven't tried to monitor a live stream test yet) also does your mackie have a problem with the pan bleeding through or not panning fully? when i pan left for one track to record, and the other track right, they seem to still send a small amount of signal to the other side, enough to be seen on the meters and heard on the recording.
other than those 2 issues, I am thoroughly impressed with the sound quality of the mixer, really looking forward to running the pa with it and recording/live stream. would have been really cool if they would have split up the assignments of 1-2 for each channel to eliminate the need to pan. I have been using an old spirit fx8 and while it worked well, not having the option to properly monitor the signal the PC sees made it tough to set up. It would sound great on the mix to the headphones or FOH, but the playback would be crap. The price was right for the mackie vs getting a multichannel sound card (s) for the pci slots and a second mixer to handle and monitor the direct outputs to each channel.

Great video with some clear explanations on how the audio mixer works. Is there a particular way to set up the 3/4 USB option for receiving audio from your computer into the mixer to hear through headphones without causing others to hear themselves on social media applications? I am currently experiencing the issue of my friends being able to hear themselves speak due to the mixer outputting their microphones to them!

I don't normally subscribe after viewing a tutorial, but.. You sir have a new follower :) I love how you break things down for tech dummies like me. So hard to find out how to do this online. Plus you can really sing and play :) Just a quick question. I would pretty much only be using this to dj on Zoom. Would it pick up Virtual DJ, running on my laptop, or would I need to go via line in?

    • @GregintheBox
      @GregintheBox  Před 3 lety +1

Thank you my friend. Kind words. As a DJ using a computer based virtual software you have the challenge of needing a PC to do the DJ work and a seperate PC to be your live streaming computer. To try and do both on the same PC is difficult and will likely not work. With 2 computers, 1 will work as your DJ platform, and connect into the the mixer Line in. The mixer is then USB connected to the second computer which connects to the Video conferencing platform or live streaming platform of your choice. Good luck and thanks for the support.

Hi Greg, nice informative video. I have just ordered this mixer, thanks to you. I was just wondering with regards to using Zoom and the USB 3 & 4 Audience return channel. Is there a way of hearing them through my output speakers as opposed through headphones? Or is just a case of plugging in speakers into the headphone jack in order to hear them on USB 3 & 4?
    Thanks in advance.

    • @GregintheBox
      @GregintheBox  Před 3 lety

You can certainly use the main outs, but be aware that you ideally don't want that sound being picked up by your microphone and folded back into the mix again. Its doable but is not the ideal scenario. Best of luck. its a fun unit.

Great video - works fine with Windows 10 but I cannot get the main output sent to MacBook Pro via a USB cable. Any ideas why? MacBook shows it as ProFx and I can also play a note on a keyboard I have connected to the mixer and the Garageband tuner identifies the note. But when I start recording, and play the keyboard, no signal is going to the MacBook.
