      Hi GFizz, thanks for the question! Master EQs have been phasing out of a lot of mixers lately, and I am not entirely sure why, but there are some great add-on options for you. While a standard graphic eq is nice and gives a quick fix, having a proper PA management solution can really take things to the next level. Check out the DBX DriveRacks:
      www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DriveRackPA2--dbx-driverack-pa2-complete-loudspeaker-management-system
      They have feedback suppression, crossovers and very high fidelity EQs built in. They can even be used with an RTA mic and set your system to a target curve automatically no matter where you are! Once you use one, they are hard to part with!
      Let me know if you need anything else!

    Hi I have a ProFX16v2 and am doing some GarageBand recording. I would love to be able to divert the USB output to my headphones. Is there a way to achieve this please? I Can do it on my low budget Wharfdale mixer which has two buttons to enable USB to go our to headphones AND/OR main. Any help really appreciated. I put down a guitar track but when I record my vocals I record the guitar track again in the background. If the guitar track could be diverted to my headphones that would be brilliant.

    I wish Mackie would've provided more information on the one-knob compressor feature. I bought the ProFX12v3 through Sweetwater about a year ago. I'm still trying to find information on what Mackie's actual specs are (not 1 knob compressors in general) but I pretty much gave up on it.
    I found one online review stating "the one-knob compressors on the first four channels bring in gradual and largely non-intrusive gain reduction." Another review states: "my only criticism of the ProFX12v3’s onboard features would be the inbuilt compressor and how subtle it is. From a functionality perspective it may have almost been better served having a limiter in its place, as with the input at unity and the compressor up full, it’s still difficult to hear it having any noticeable impact on the program material."
    Like the reviewer, I just haven't been able to notice anything happening at all with vocals or guitars no matter where I tried setting the knob. At this price point it's a decent budget mixer, but it would be nice to have information supplied through the manufacturer on just how "suttle" a one-compressor actually is on the ProFX series.
    Just a last thought would be the FX presets themselves. I wish it allowed for being able to adjust delay time, etc...but again, at this price we can't have it all. Hopefully it helps the discussion as this is all meant to be constructive conversation.

      Hi Amber, great question! Your Mackie Pro FX does have a built-in 2 channel audio interface via USB (i.e. it will send only the master outputs of the mixer). If your Scarlett has more inputs and you need to make use of those, I would use the Scarlett instead.

    I bought the 16 track model in order to have a smaller mixer footprint in my home studio, replacing my very old Tascam 16:8:2 2600, which I may go back to now... It was a major struggle to get the MackieProFX16v3 to interface with my Windows 10 PC DAW. There is virtually no help in the manual - e.g. like explaining for instance that (i) you have to download a driver and that (ii) you have to switch off your audio interface in Windows and choose the 'Mackie USB' as your default device, and (iii) that any existing ASIO driver won't work with it - you have to go and download ASIO4ALL! How old school is that! The USB implementation seems to me to be somewhat crude; most of the controls don't work as expected when in USB2 mode (not USB3 in a 'new' model??). The audio is not anything like as clear as that through my RME Aio soundcard, so I cannot recommend this mixer for home recording use. It doesn't even have outputs for connecting to soundcard - I use subgroup 1 and 2 outs. (If you use main outs you can't hear existing tracks when recording a new track, or the existing tracks will be simply recorded again.) The desk is probably ok for use in a live band mixer setting, but not for home recording IMHO.

      Hi My 2 Cents, good question. The SM7B is a very gain hungry mic. The preamps on the Mackie are good, but they will be turned way up to take care of the SM7B. Since it is a mixer, this can be somewhat compensated for in a live setting since you have several gain stages to work with, but for recording or podcasting/streaming, I would probably invest in a mic booster like the Cloud Lifter or the Klark Teknik.
      If you have any more questions, give me a ring!

    do these Mackie FX units have tap tempos? Can you add more than one effect per channel? Im assuming no, after watching this video, but please chime in if you know for sure...

      Hey there! Thanks for reaching out. At this time, these mixers don't include tap tempo or the ability to add more than one effect per channel. If you'd like to give me a shout at the contact info below, we can talk more about that and find you the right mixer.

      @@SARAH-pk5cc YES! The USB is bidirectional on all Mackie V3 boards (which is VERY COOL!). 1/2 is USB out, and 3/4 is USB in. So, WITHIN your computer software, you need to make certain you have the correct output selected in audio routing preferences (ie channel 3,4), as well as having USB 3-4 button depressed on channel 12 of the board.

    Excellent review. Is it possible to do a multi-track recording into a DAW with it?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Před rokem +1

      Hello, Francesco! The Pro Fx series mixers only send the stereo mix out digitally via USB. In a way, you could still multitrack with it, but only two channels at a time. I recommend looking into Mackie’s Onyx series mixers as these do allow for multitracking over USB.

    Another question on the 1-2 fader: does this mixer *finally* have a *stereo sub fader* ?? Like, yeah. Mackie has forever required us to use 2 sub faders so as to get a stereo mix - way, way old school. Also, for the 16 channel version - does this have two stereo sub faders, i.e. 1-2 and 3-4 ?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Před 5 měsíci

      Hi skyfinancellc9538, great question! Yes, the ProFX V3 mixers have a dedicated Master fader for the stereo mix. The 16 channel version does have 2 stereo sub mixes in addition.

    Thank you. However I still can't understand what these mixers offer as far as USB *output*. Can you please detail this? I've searched online for answers but just could not find them. (That doesn't feel so good.) For example:
    1.) For recording out, is the idea that can pull a USB stereo mix of the whole mixer?
    2.) Are individual channels *not accessible* in the output mix?
    3.) I can specify the bit width and clock rate of the output mix, up to 24 bit / 192Khz, correct?
    4.) Any other details you can specify for recording-out?
    Thank you

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Před 5 měsíci

      Hey there!
      1. Yes, the USB out is for recording the stereo mix from the mixer. Essentially, whatever you’re sending out Main L&R is going to be recorded into the computer.
      2. No, individual channels are not accessible via USB.
      3. Yes, you have control over the bit depth and sample rate.
      4. That’s pretty much the main gist of it. It’s just going to record whatever the main stereo mix is!
      Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.

    I have a stupid question.....I have the exact same mixer and my drummer uses a wedged monitor and I prefer to use in ear monitors but we both cant seem to figure out how to give us both of them at the same time. if the 12 channel had 2 Aux outputs we wouldn't be having the issue we are having LOL. I wasn't sure if by me connecting my in ear system (Xvive U4) to the control room outputs would be ok to do

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey there. Yes, connecting your monitors to the control room output would certainly allow the 2 of you to have separate mixes. But, the control room outputs are going to be the exact same mix that’s going to your front of house speakers.
      Without multiple auxiliary outputs, there isn’t a way to have 2 separate mixes from what’s running to your mains. Unless you’re running a mixer with more aux outputs, you’ll be dealing with that issue.
      If you want to share that same monitor mix, you could look into some sort of ¼” splitter that would allow the 2 of you to both have access to that single auxiliary output.
      I hope this helps!
