    Julian Lara blessed me again and let me taste a PACE mamey fruit right off the tree. It was amazing. Check out our discussion about the mamey fruit on his farm.
    Julian at Lara Farms talks about his favorite variety of Mamey Sapote. Lara Farms is located in the heart of Miami-Dade County's ag district specializing in grafted tropical fruit.
    Some popular varieties of mamey you can order from Lara Farms are Pace, Magana, and Key West aka Pantin. Lara Farms sells 5-pound and 10-pound boxes on their website

    I concur! PACE is the way to go. Amazing. Can't wait to try the Jamaican and Pumpkin pie! Julian is great! A library of information and stocks a lot of great trees. I've picked up a bunch of fruit trees from him in the past year including different mangos, Makok sapodilla, Red sugar Apple, Miami Soursop, Lisa Atemoya and Redlands white sapote. My Red Sugar apple came in a 25 gallon pot and is now LOADED with fruit. Soo many flowers that I had to stop hand pollinating them to not overload the tree. The Lisa is a runt in a 1 gallon pot, but has about 8 flowers on them. I just want to get 1 atemoya from it this year and then let it grow. I found Julian through Paul's videos. Thanks Paul for all the great videos and passion you have for fruit. It's inspiring to us rookies!

    Brought some grafted green sapotes from Julian. They are coming along, but I got a few years to go before I get to try the fruit.

    I have a Pace, it's about 4 feet tall, healthy, but grows super slow. It's always covered in flowers but no fruit yet. Is that normal?

    • @somerandomperson1503
      @somerandomperson1503 Před rokem +2

      I’ve had the same problem with Pace. They grow extremely slow for me. For example, I had a viejo and a pace growing next to each other in pots in identical conditions (same soil, watering, fertilizer, etc) starting at the same size (1 gallon) and the viejo was 4 times the size of the pace after 1 year. The viejo is doing fantastic at the moment…the pace declined for no reason and eventually died. I had another pace before that which was an extremely slow grower as well, took almost a whole year before it put out any new growth…during that same time, a Pantin (Key West) I had grew to double the size (both were 3 gallons originally). Either I have extremely bad luck with pace mameys, or they have a predisposition towards low vigor, nutrient deficiency and decline (compared to other cultivars). I’ve grown Akil Especial, Lorito, Magaña, Pace, Pantin, Papa, Viejo and some seedlings, all of them have grown really well for me except Pace.

    If the fruit takes like 18 months to develop. Then why do you call a variety an early or late season fruit
