How Howard Stern became a new man
Vložit
- čas přidán 27. 05. 2024
- Over the past 13 years, Howard Stern helped SiriusXM satellite radio grow from a fledgling experiment into a 33 million-subscriber empire. But Stern, who made a name for himself as a potty-mouthed shock jock, has evolved - as a celebrity interviewer and as a person. He talks with Tracy Smith about his new book of interviews, "Howard Stern Comes Again"; his psychotherapy; a health scare that demonstrated he "wasn't Superman"; and how he and his wife are guardian angels to a thousand rescue cats.

One of his biggest regrets should be turning his back on people who fundamentally help him build the show like Jackie, Billy West, Gilbert and Artie.
Absolutely he should also regret that is a two-faced narcissistic self-important blowhole
Yumpie Oo don’t forget enabling Hank the dwarf by allowing to drink in the green room before he came on air .
Amen
Artie was on dope and self-destructed. Period. Jackie went "on strike" at least a few times, where he would refuse to come into work -- in order to get a raise. Howard warned Jackie (in advance) the last time Jackie's contract negotiations started if Jackie went "on strike" again, Howard was not going to "go to bat for him" with management. I miss Jackie, but he was warned in advance. I do not know the entire Billy West story, but I thought he left the show to move to L.A. and voice cartoons (if that is not the whole story, I'm guessing Billy wanted a raise). If you do not like what Howard has turned into lately, that's fine, just don't be "re-writing history."
DigitalShark99 lol ^^ this def is one of the fake accounts that Howard told his staff to make in the leaked video
Howard looks like a cross between Richard Simmons and tales from the crypt.
The old Howard reminded me of Joey Ramone.

You right in many ways but his happiness is what’s most important. He has said it numerous times (like in the interview) and I believe him based on his actions and honesty. The show is still excellent even though it’s different. Times have changed as well and you can’t do what was done in the past especially with women and this is a good thing.
@@lindaslattery8341 NO, he exploited people for so many years which allowed him as a fringe celebrity to gain fame and wealth and then her repents. If he had remained a b level celebrity, he would still be raunchy. He is a hypocrite.
For 20 years I was on of his superfans and barley missed a few minutes of the show. I forced my work to change the companies production hours just so I could listen to the show. Got me through some really tough times so I don't want to bash him too much but once he got remarried and hooked up with the getting things done girl he completely changed. Money and fame sadly finally got to him. Still listen to his older shows almost daily since I have almost every show from 1992-2010 on tape.
I was a fan back when this show was good.
Come back Artie and Gilbert.
Personally, I miss the K Rock days! I’ve been a Stern fan for a very long time (since 1986). The only reason I got satellite radio was to listen to him when he left terrestrial radio. I have since canceled my Sirius subscription. I know everything doesn’t stay the same, but the show didn’t get better, it got worse unfortunately…. In his older age, he became more of a ringmaster than the focal point of the show allowing his interns to entertain the audience with their ridiculous and immature antics … It just doesn’t work for me. The best part of the show during the K Rock days was his rants, fighting the FCC and screaming at the media on air defending all of the controversy he created. I guess he had to grow up at some point.
Artie was hilarious

Yup. The wack pack is the best it is. The your mom's house podcast is kinda following that line with all the eccentric people they follow. They should get them in studio.
"Why is it that celebrities open up to you?"
Because they're in a safe spot now since Stern is a shell of what he used to be. Most of the celebrities wouldn't have had the balls to come on his show back in 1995.
And as a result now he gets people to open up more. I don't see the problem here. You do realize people change as they get older right?
@@cainification A circlejerk is boring. Putting them on the spot & getting a rise out of them by asking questions that are stupid, juvenile or offensive is way more interesting for the listener. Bad radio show at that. Maybe too much credit in that statement.
His “regrets” made him famous.
As a kid in the 1980's in the Washington DC area, I feel awed that we got to head Howard Stern at his peak before he went to NY. I never will forget the joke of when he called an airline and asked them for a ticket for the 14th st bridge. This was the day after the airline had a plane crashed into the bridge and the Potomac river. It was truly creative and his golden age for Howard Stern.
I love listening to Howard but can you imagine if he had to deal with the everyday pressures we all deal with - family, job, mortgage, college cost etc. He sees a therapist so he could be normal and leave his house and interact with people. Toughen up guy. Many people have it must worse
Just because other people have it worse doesn't mean your problems are illegitimate, nor does it mean everyone can just "toughen up" and make it go away.

My theory has always been that Howard goes to therapy so often because he has a debilitating fear of death. Howard is a bright man. Not everyone knows, but Howard attended Boston University, one of the greatest schools in the country, graduating with Honors. Howard's academic accomplishments and intellect have been his backbone, keeping him upright all these years.

was the Robin Williams interview he's referencing one that took place since the move to Sirius? what I found interesting about that exchange, I actually found so often over the years that Williams would be doing an interview somewhere, and I WANTED something that was more some realness and introspection, but he'd wind up doing his usual 100mph improv thing the whole time. And it's like, obviously that was a major reason for his success to begin with, but I can already see that plenty of other times and places. I recall he even wound up doing it for his appearance on the Inside The Actors Studio appears in the early 2000s.

This is probably the best interview he's ever done. People always mistake this guy for the one behind the microphone the same way they typecast actors. Lurch would never be anything other than Lurch in his acting career.
