Randall. I have my HAM licence. And I can assure you, baofeng is not!!
Yeasu, Icom, Kenwood. Dont go cheap.... Japanese not chinamart...
I run many radios… Baofeng is a perfectly fine radio. It’s all about the antenna you run. Also, if you trash a cheap radio… who cares, it was cheap. I can buy 6 baofengs for the price of one Yeasu.
@@Hmetalz Thier qc is spotty. If u get a good one your ok. If not your shipping it back and forth. I need a robust and reliable radio. If I happen to trash it, thats ok. But Ill never buy another bf. Plus my hand held standard radio antennas reach the repeaters 30 miles away. And my friends 10 miles away. And who wants to support china anyway 🤔
good points on both sides, Kenwood the stereo company?
+1 for yaesu…..some folks will always take things more seriously than others, I just easily passed the first HAM test……super easy
@@wolffo999 congratulations!! Now you can really learn!
I would suggest that you add a small ferro rod with striker, it's small doesn't take up a lot of room and it's very light in weight.
I find it funny how alot of us grunts end up rocking very similar gear. I've been using a Hill People chest rig since I was a PSG in Hawaii and still use it back in my woods. As always, good stuff brother. Keep it up.
I have a similar EDC survival kit (5-Cs, small medical kit, pistol and spare mags) within my HPG Heavy Recon chest rig.
It's a great setup along with a 100oz CamelBak Mil-Spec Antidote hydration bladder.
Love the attitude and choise of music in your videos🤘 Keep on rockin'
Speaking as a ham of many years, we like the Baofeng radios because they're throw-away cheap not because they're anything like the best. Companies like ICOM and Kenwood make the best radios, but they cost four or five times as much. For wilderness emergencies, you might look into carrying a Gamin InReach. They do two-way text via satellites and work where cellular and ham radio repeaters do not. All you need is a patch of sky overhead.
Slamming it man with these recent videos. Love this stuff.
Great vid Randall. Randall on the holster, I'm looking for a holster that will keep the sand and dirt out of my M&P when doing obstacle course work. I also always have my light on my M&P. Thanks man
Outstanding!
The chest rig looks pretty handy. Probably better than rigging a sling bag of similar size to wear I the front.
The Baofeng UV-5R is wideband and can transmit on FRS/GMRS/MURS, VHF/UHF amateur radio bands, etc. BUT it also has spurious emissions.
The newer Baofeng GT-5R can ONLY transmit on the VHF/UHF amateur radio bands as well as receive FRS/GMRS/MURS, etc. but it DOES NOT have spurious emissions.
I have both which is why I carry a Yaesu FT5D w/AA battery pack. Why?
The FT5D can also pickup airband as well as shortwave with a small longwire external antenna clipped on it and is more rugged and weather-resistant than the Baofeng radios.
Wideband the FT5D and you can use it with FRS/GMRS/MURS freqs - not legally outside of an actual real emergency of course.
Glock 19 in a Safariland ALC holster using their low-ride belt-slide adapter to keep it on my belt but out of the way of the rucksack itself without having to resort to that horridly overpriced and uncomfortable-to-me drop-leg holster system they sell. Tops BOB knife that's been modded to throw sparks off a ferro rod using the spine in a leather sheath on the other hip. 32-ounce stainless steel water bottle in it's own carrier strapped to the pack with a Sawyer filter system and purification tablets for backup and is used to re-fill the Camelbak reservoir in the ruck. You can put a stainless steel water bottle in a fire to boil water, can't do that with plastic canteens. Small flatpack stove w/alcohol stove burner for those "no campfire" areas when I need to boil water.
Then the usual rapid ridgeline/tarp/mat/Helikon-Tex Swagman roll system in a buttpack on the belt for summer overnights.
Nice simple kit. The only thing I guess I would suggest would be a military poncho.
Nice kit. Hill People Gear make some awesome stuff.
I think I've got the Recon chest rig or the heavy recon chest rig, I can't remember what it's called, but I have a couple grenade pouches and a compass pouch on the front, I take it hiking and have worn it on hunts. My pistol and a fairly similar kit to what you have goes in mine. If I've got the rifle a spare magazine goes with that too. I'll have to check out that map app, I don't love the one I have.
Nice set up Randal. Hill People Gear make good stuff. The only extra I take out from what you have is some sort of cover usually either a poncho or small tarp and some cordage for it. Oh and a head net.. Got got caught without one once. Only once!
Nate
“Occupied territories”- LOVE it!!!
Great videos man 👍👍
Man sweet wilderness edc!!
Mr.Randall thanks for the info great video sir thanks
Good video , thanks for sharing ,God bless !
I'm often too lazy and forget to put on sunscreen, but when I do, I'm good for one application for the day. Many folks are like you and detest it and get by with the layered approach. You know me though, short sleeves, shorts and a trucker hat and I'm good to go! The legs never get sun screen though.
It doesn't block UV-C
@@GruntProof 🤔 Where you planning on running around...a decontamination chamber with artificial UV lights? UV-C doesn't permeate our atmosphere, but I'm no expert. Just a wiz at google searches I guess.😋 Then again...you can't believe everything you read on the interwebs.🤣
To Grunt Proof, I am fairly new to your channel.
What firearm do you carry and in what caliber?
Secondly, do you carry standard ball ammo or do you carry self-defense hollow point ammo?
Thanks in advance.
great vids
What ammo do you carry for a day in the outback?
good stuff
Nice setup. I'd love to offer some advice but I don't have nearly the experience you have lol I just recently switched out my sidearm from a 40 to a 9 and slapped in some +P 149gr "Bear Defense" pewpew's that's a hard cast projectile. All the trial videos I watched on it it seemed like a good call. Reportedly a gentleman in AK dropped a rather sizeable grizz with this stuff. Might be worth looking into. Hopefully YT doesn't flag or remove this comment.
I think that shirt style is a good choice for edc in warm weather based youtuber reallybigmonkey's extensive advice.
I have been searching for one in my size, but cannot find.
I wear long sleeve, button down, polyester outershirts with a synthetic blend t-shirt in warm weather. But they are not thick like the shirt you have on, which appears to be cotton. If i had to spend a night out in the bush, i would prefer the thicker shirt to keep the mozzy's at bay.
What is the name of the map app? For some reason I just cannot hear the name of it clearly
Avenza
I like to carry a compact hand chainsaw. It can fold up into a pouch no bigger than what you would carry handcuffs in. As well as a very robust machete with serrated edge on the back. I totally agree with the Chapstick! I like to use carmex because it has menthol in it which helps for pain relief.
And I know that this is a huge debate between gun guys. But I love to carry God's caliber, the .45 acp. And the one I carry is a very robust gun, the Sarsilmaz ST45
I'd love to get a Colt 45!
@@GruntProof hell yeah! A Colt 1911 .45 would be amazing. But I would also like to get me a Henry or Marlin 45-70 government lever cocking rifle. Someday! Hell that amazing piece of property and it's something I would definitely like to get! Thought about getting some desert property out here in West Texas.
Great rig Randall - your EDC is the S&W99?
Hay Randall, With further regards about the 'Chap Stick' when you said "you can use it on any crack", Um can you use an antiseptic based one, for cuts and abrasions, while in the mountains? and should you either get the biggest stick size or multiples for any large cracks as well?
I just read this so please don't take it the wrong way! My question is about the issue of sweating with anything such as zinc cream applications, sunscreen as you are mentioning as well as how these can be absorbed into your blood while sweating does this apply for chap stick as well.? As I know that there some many natural ingredient ones out there that may not affect you in the long run from extended use in the wilderness?
I always carry chapstick so it's been my small cracked dry skin and minor cut repair
What compass do you recommend GP? I got a cheapo Amazon one, will that do the trick?
If it's accurate it works. I like the military lensatic compass because you can lock the dial and it's tough as hell.
Merrell Moab 2 or Merrell Yokota 2? I think that you not so long ago recommended the Yokotas, or not?
They're both awesome
A small first aid kit, 550 cord, short length of duct tape.
I don't carry anything down below, mostly up above. ha ha
I recommend luko tape for first aid tape amazing stuff . Occupied territory I love it , I live in an occupied Country Canada
Love you content, if only you were a marine. Just kidding keep up the awesome content soldier.
HPG is a awesome gear company!!!!
Did I miss the important papers in your EDC? 😂 That's a great setup. Totally agree on sunscreen, but SPF Chapstick for the nose lasts for hours when necessary.
Do you also throw in some sort of plastic garbage bag/reflective sheet/tarp shelter or does it not rain there much (from the looks of it, no)?
If it rains this time of year it'll be a few light sprinkles
@memathews, I have done some hiking in the southwest. Sun protection is an absolute must.
I always carry chapstick with an SPF rating of 25.
I also wear Dr. Shade fingerless gloves. Bought mine from Cabela's.
Silver in color, very lightweight, and aids in protecting the hands from the sun.
Water and ice carried in a Camelbak. I carry a separate water bottle with water mixed with Gatorade Propel.
Easy to wash out the water bottle.
In extreme heat, will carry extra water in a Platypus soft bottle/bladder.
That’s a cool chest rig. I like the concealed carry department. What’s the name of the chest rig?
Hill People Gear Standard. Made in MERICA!
@@GruntProof what’s the price? Looks like they got a few different options.
Is there a specific use case you have in mind for the gun or do you just carry it for the heck of it?
The specific use would be to shoot something that needs to be shot. No, I'm not being sarcastic...sometimes you need to shoot something. If you're lucky never, but just in case...
I carry because the founding fathers made sure We The People could defend ourselves.
👍
The Baofeng is the best on the market according to Hams? Your funny. 😂
As a POW in an occupied territory (New Jersey), I almost got arrested for having my pellet rifle (bb gun considered a firearm in NJ) in the back of my vehicle, unloaded with no pellets (ammo) in it, because.... wait for it..... It wasn't in a sock........ Only because I am a vet and the sergeant that arrived on the scene was a vet did I get away with that egregious and dangerous infraction..........
Damn man
Semper fi 8th marines infantry
Oorah, 3/4 Marines, Vietnam.
Would slipping some aluminium in the pouch consintute as a hard case aha
:D

If i subscribe to the gruntproof membership, can i please get a copy of the cancelled livecast on 03/26/22 with John mailed to my address on a usb?
The brothers that own hill people hear make good stuff and are really nice people Evan has a really neat channel.
Agree black diamonds batteries suck if you want to use real rechargeable to can cut the plastic wrapper off of any rechargeable battery and the usb charger in the headlamp will work the little nub in the battery case “sees” if it conducts with the official black diamond rechargeable batteries. A bit of a pain but does work
🐉
Hey man , I was thinking. Could the Hunted not steal his gear in the first night at base camp, then the hunters have a track and can work from there. And we would see tactical aktion, observation, stelth and stalking. Lol from Germany DeinStamm
what phone do u use,esp in this vide o
Whatever is a cheap "rugged phone" at the time. This one is Doogee
@@GruntProof thx
Lol occupied territories that’s a term I will adopt .
Man ! I was just about to type . WTF , no compass . Then you showed it :D 3 yrs ago one of my spawn sent me a small flashlight ,which caught me off guard . In that he , I , and my other son are Flashlight whores :D Anyway . Turned out that it has a " Lifetime " warranty. It is the M5 from POWERTAC , and it is the brightest , small light , I have ever owned . Zero problems so far . Just wanted to let you know about this light . And NO folks . I , nor any member of my family , or anybody I know .Has any affiliation with this company . Be safe out there folks , and . Great kit GP !! ... Gubs
I mean I have the Garmin that works great and a backup mini compass. I just know how the internet is 🤷🏼♂️
@@GruntProof What is the brand and model of the mini compass ? I've tried a few in the past . Some have been close to 90 degree's out. One was almost 180 out . Have a good one .. bg
Georgia made it 25 states now 😁
BOOM!!
Outstanding. If you all could send Stacy Abrams packing to Pakistan, that would be great.
@@jamescrowe7892 she never goes away it's crazy
What boonie hat is that ? PROPPER truspec?
No it's a cheap multicam boonie hat. Save your cash
y don't you make a vid on your rifles
How about show's on CROSSBOWS deer hunting and WRIST ROCKET SLING-SHOT Small game. 🤔
If I'm ever out here for the season....but I think there are many channels that do an awesome job at that
No offense, but you kinda mumble the trail mapping system you use. What was it, phonetically?
Avenza
Can you spell out your Geo-tracking app?
Avenza
@@GruntProof Thx!
Relax.. It's not a deployment...
It's pronounced " boo-thang" .
No handgun carry here in Canada , so it’s a mossberg 500 and a tin of corned beef for my EDC …you’d be surprised how long a guy can last in the woods with a scattergun and a tin of beef lolololol
Occupied territories.. 😂. Appropriate terminology.
This should be taught in elementary or high schools. They teach LGBTQ instead 🥲
I hope you are on your own property with that open carry otherwise it is illegal.
Why does anyone live in California? LOL
You must be a blast at parties lololol
@@asmith7876 Because aside the crappy cities the rest of California is still more beautiful than any other state.
@@mdog1615 No, I am just making sure Randall doesn't get in trouble with law enforcement. Obviously you don't live here, some LEO'S in California can be real Liberal assholes and would love nothing more than take away Randall's right to carry. It's about taking care of a fellow Veteran.
@@lisajohnston6422 Hey, I’m just messing around. My friend in San Diego sends me incredible pictures, so yeah. Enjoy!
What wilderness are you filming from?
American
@@GruntProof great but where exactly?😁 looks like you're in Mexican territory or what was Mexico. Up high in the boondocks of California maybe.
