Carrying in country is different than carrying in public. You not an expert at the public part.

Move to a place that respects the 2nd Amendment.
Country and city carry is the same in Tennessee, for example.

I was a LEO for 16 years in the Atlanta Metro area, pretty much as public as you can get. I carried open and concealed as part of my assigned duties. When open carry, I would use a Safriland level 3 holster, because the badge puts a target on you and at times officer will have to lay hands on people. When carrying concealed, I would use a kydex type holster designed for my gun, as level 2 or 3 holsters dont conceal very well. To this day, I still conceal carry at the 3 o'clock position because I am used to drawing from that gun position due to all the years of on the range and actually drawing to point it at people in real life.
I do not claim to be an expert on this matter, I do have a lot of time carrying both open and concealed, in the country and in public.

@@Valorius So go buy a level 3 holster for open carry if you think you will be the victim of a crime while carrying a gun. My post was the different types of holsters for the different situations based on my personal experience. If you take offense to me using my own experience as an example, thats on you. It sounds like you should probably have an active retention device on your weapon.

Personally I only conceal carry in town. In the mountains, I always open carry. I realize not everyone lives in a state where you can do that. As holsters go, I've become partial to chest holsters. Sitting, standing, getting in and out of vehicles or ATV's, it doesn't get in the way. Although if just milling around camp, a belt (say an alice pistol belt) is a better option as a chest holster just gets in the way of doing camp chores like cooking, or chopping firewood. My holster of preference has become Razco Holsters. It's a small business out of Montana who's main clientele are hunters or outdoorsman in general. One thing I'd like to mention is that whatever holster one uses outdoors, unless it's on your chest, you probably want it to have a closed end. If you mount it on a pistol belt, or backpack, when you go to set that pack down, you might be getting the end of your handgun in mud or into some kind of barrel obstruction.

I love my Philster engima holster. I carry concealed appendix everyday, i use the belt system when im wearing something that won't take a belt, like workout clothing. Any other day i run just the holster clipped on my belt in appendix carry. Have carried mine for 3 years straight working outside doing landscaping. I have a slight belly, 6ft 180-190 pounds. The Engima works great for females who refuse to use a clip on belt holster. I love my simple vortex bino chest bag, it fits my phone 1 full size pistol and 1 mag with ease, when hiking or running it works amazing

Clarifying context: Appendix/ 12 to 1 o'clock position is one of 4 for common user-preference positioning IWB-- there's the 3 o'clock (on the hip, 9 o'clock for left/ wrong handed people), 5 o'clock (kidney, 7 o'clock for lefties), and 6 o'clock (small of the back) that are all also common ways based on situation and preference.
I went with the G-Code Syncron Holster for my go-to IWB, it's got a suede fuzz on the outside of the Kydex for more comfort and wicking sweat, the clips are also great for positioning and keeping it pushed close to the body, and adjustable seat/ ride depth.
