I live in a very rural, isolated area too. I carry an SP101 357 in a belt holster, a leatherman wave and a small flashlight all day, every day. It’s simple but it’s all I need. Oh and a very protective and loyal Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Scout follows me step for step 😂

My personal drinking record is 7 liters a day. That was at the end of June 2018. My buddy and I hiked up to the Pleisenspitze in the shade at 30 ° C and there was hardly any shade. This is a 2569m high mountain in the Alps, in the Karwendel Mountains near Scharnitz in Tyrol. That was about 1600 meters up. When I got down again after 12 hours, I was pretty much exhausted.

Cool setup. Dan Wesson revolvers are pretty good. The one I've handled was also lighter than most of the other .357's I've messed with. So not having it drag your pants down to your ankles all day is a plus.

Smart EDC man, the whistle/noise is exactly what keeps the bears and big cats away. Good to see the blade is doing well! That's awesome it fits your Ka-Bar hard sheath so well. Also huge thanks for the shoutout, I really appreciate it.
I can't think of anything I'd change on your EDC. For me I have to be very discreet due to laws/prohibited items here. Layers of Kevlar, striking tools, and pocket knives are my go to for EDC/self defense. When on duty I can wear my body armor so that's a plus. However the company doesn't have the insurance for us to be armed...very expensive here. Anyhow enough typing from me. Awesome video man!

If your EDC items and gear work for you...man, that's all you need. Once I set up my camp in the wilderness I love to explore and I just take a chest pack with my CCW, couple extra magazines, compass, pace beads, small flashlight, a couple of Bic lighters, plus other items that essentially comprise a survival kit. A couple times I wandered so far from my base camp I ended up sleeping under a tree or on a large fallen tree. I miss my old Ivor Johnson six shooter that was able to shoot both 38 and 9mil ammo and I carried it on my left hip in a western holster. While riding my motorcycle it was somewhat of a deterrent sign to those who liked to throw food and drinks out of their windows at motorcycle riders. They were the only wild animals I worried about.

I live in DC and my EDC is a mix of Urban and non-Urban equipment. Mostly non-Urban related EDC for me insures that if a bugout situation occurs and I have to escape out of the urban area ASAP, one less thing I have to do is revert to a more "wilderness" favored EDC compliment. Yes it's more to carry, and yes I am old and it's not the most convenient set up, I do FEEL more secure and I am DEFINITELY more prepared to respond to either situation.

Great video. Love the sound of your farm/ranch/place. Can I come visit? :-)
I would make a few suggestions based on what I think were the Conditions you described.
I think you're taking unnecessary risks that you can easily reduce. The first is the risk of a serious mobility injury. If you're bitten or sprain or break something, that radio might help you with getting rescued but you might be looking at spending a night or two. You're also taking some high risk with water, it sounds like. 20 oz in the condition you describe is insufficient. Having been in the desert you know that once a heat casualty, always a heat casualty. So if you've ever gone done with heat symptoms I'd definitely up water intake when you're out in the woods.
You need added gear that's lightweight so you're motivated to carry it.
#1 I would definitely sling a two-quart canteen around my neck and tie a small metal cup to it. I carry Sawyer water filter, bag and small hose duct-taped to the sling. #2 I would carry 1-2 emergency blankets (the small ones that weight 2 oz). #3 a SWAT Tourniquet or whatever one you're most familiar with. #4 Cotton cloth or dressings. You can carry the old GI version which is a cravat with large gauze pad or you can buy compression bandages and triangular bandages. #5 Tape #6 Bank line #7 A small fire kit with home-made tinder, lighters and matches. #8 A real compass #9 Very lightweight poncho (10-12 oz) #10 Mirror (Both Suunto and Silva make a good compass with a mirror.) #11 Garbage bag (55 gal)
You can put all that inside a Molle Waistpack (9-10 oz, holds almost 7 L). You'll have a lot of room left over. But you can also figure out a way to hang that off your belt (except the canteen). Another easy way to carry stuff is a man purse (aka Haversack). But a market wallet or snapsack are also extremely light to carry and cost nothing.
Another really cool way to carry gear is the Versa Cloth. I think the concept has been around for a while but I first heard about it from BOSS (survival school inn Utah). Matt Graham also uses one. Cody Lundeen uses something like it and this gentleman has a couple of videos on it: czcams.com/video/Cm924kuBqvI/video.html
Personally, I have a 5 x 5 foot cotton one made from a bed sheet. If it were me, I'd stick all the crap I mentioned above in a light, Walmart 10 L dry bag (which you can also use to gather water), roll it up in the cloth, tie the cloth above my pistol belt or make a sling pack out of it, sling on the canteen and hit the trail.
All the above should be less than three pounds base weight (unless you buy a fancy, expensive man purse) then add four pounds for the water and you're looking at right around seven pounds trail weight.
    Cheers brother.

@@GruntProof Yep that is for sure. Both parties are horrible. Kind of a pick your poison. Only a handful of issues split the parties apart. Guns being one of the big ones. But right now only one party is pro censorship and anti gun. I wish there was a way to hold them accountable when they ignore the constitution.
The fact is until we find a way to get money out of politics they will never work for us. They are all getting into office and making themselves filthy rich while screwing over the average person.

Have you ever deterred an attacking animal with the whistle? I think it would just anger them, but I hope I'm wrong because guns are illegal and dog attacks are everyday around here.

Not an attacking one. In that case I'd draw the pistol. I just know that I blow the whistle randomly a lot and, since I've started that, I haven't seen another animal up close. I have changed nothing else about my movement in the woods, so that's what I base that on.

@@GruntProof cool. 357 is minimum in bear country for me. Though my friend out in colo lets his youngest daughter pack a glock 19 with very special deep penetrating rounds. Thanks for replying and thank you for your service
