  • Hello! This video talks about the next dlc chapters, expansions and updates coming to CK3 in chapter 3 - discussing what features id like to see beyond the typical major ck2 dlc suggestions. This was a long and strange video to make and actually used a script unlike most things I make so I hope youll hear me out and tell me in the comments if you agree or disagree with anything. I have watched quite a few videos recently all with people giving their takes on major things to be added to the game like diseases, religion rework, byzantines, hre - even playing as a lowborn. So in this video i wanted to talk about the things people may overlook to the future success of the game and instead are background minor things that make a world of difference. Thank you :)

    You forgot to mention the bad writing in the current events, 80% of them are fart jokes, or just cringe.

      True. I’ve played an unholy amount of CK2, but goddamn the writing is bad in CK3.

    Honestly the problem with ck3 is ive already done it all in ck2. For me the problem isnt not enough feaures from ck2 being brought over, its that its TOO like ck2. The only time i play ck3 now is radically different overhaul mods like Godherja or the like.

      Thats actually a really interesting perspective - so from your posistion Parasoxs current path of making completely original content like the royal court and the travel system is actually a mainstay because it gives you more clause to play ck3 instead of just play ck2 with the many features that has?

      not only has it been done in ck2 but sometimes I feel like its been done worst in ck3, I dont like how religion works nothing feels special, or how tech being tied with culture making you want the smallest high dev culture

    I agree with most of your suggestions. Part of me thinks we won't be getting any additions to older DLCs because one of the major reasons PDX is allowing achievements with mods is people can now just download RICE, VIET, EPE, and CFP to flush out their content without having to invest time and money.

    Hovelax my friend, you should consider drafting a post detailing all of these wonderful suggestions in the official paradox forum. That way there’s a better chance for a developer to see it. After all for any of these suggestions to be considered it would be in vain if its only the layman player gets to see them.

    They have to add naval combat. Mods like Agot will never feel complete without it. Battles like the blackwater, Spice town ect were decided with oar and arrow.

    Also, just allow the player characters to use their prowess as knights when leading their own armies. It's just sad to think that a 40 Prowess character that has been on numerous military campaigns throughout their entire life has never been in actual battle, and has only ever shouted commands from the back.

    as for harm events in the tall poppy diff. They are in the game but what makes them really annoying is it can make that character completely useless like making you a vegetable or out right killing you

    • @Hovelax
      @Hovelax  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Yea those are the harm events i talk about in that section haha - im saying its good theyve been removed and should be replaced by something that targets stuff youre exceling at - such as having too much prestige, health, piety, gold, domain ect...

    9:36 theres a cool event you can get if you become a leader when your a child. When your child reaches the age you were when you took over you can make a decision to grant them titles even if there female which i thought was pretty cool.
    I love the idea of the "poppy" events
    Personally with children another thing is fertility most of my families will have something like 5-7 kids unless I remember to purposefully marry later in life i wish 2-3 was the normal max with it being luck rng to get more.

    Great ideas, i hope devs consider them. Cause we really don't need more map to paint, we need more depth in gameplay and more decisions that matter, more complexity and planning, more impredictability to deal with

    I really feel ck2 nostalgia is overblown at this points. Tours and tourneys is leagues above the best of ck2, outside of holy fury. At the very least everything except that. With landless, provided they nail the landing, there should be no question that its the better game

    The changes you describe would absolutely be a better game, and there isn't a single one I would not want.
    One I would add is to make technology and development more complex, interesting, and meaningful. Currently if you diverge your culture while you have a high development capital, you can blitz the entire tech tree in a few decades and get stalled waiting for the next era to start, which kind of kills the sense of progression. In addition, there aren't many techs to learn, and I generally find myself taking the same path through them each playthrough because some of them are just too important not to immediately take, and others give you very little. A rebalancing so that it's a harder or more situational choice for which tech to research would be welcome.

    I loved that Tall poppy idea. I think your timing with this video was done a bit of harm by the Chapter 3 info drop. I hope you do a follow up. We are getting legends and diseases, Byzantine and imperial mechanics, and unlanded adventures. Does this whet the whistle? I'm weirdly on a year long abstinence from CK3. I know it seems like an insane thing, but I made a resolution to let some grass grow under it before I return. Legacy of Persia got me angry, not because it wasn't a good DLC, but because it has so many coding deficiencies that made my particularly notable play very lumpy. I won't be back to CK3 until 2025, despite what's coming this year. People think me mad, but I need to give it some time to grow. I was disappointed that the Iron Man achievements were enabled even for those with mods. It kind of stole the challenge out of the whole thing. I could install a mod and cheat my way to complete. It doesn't feel sporting anymore, it doesn't feel like a legitimate challenge like it was.

      I would be lying if i said i havent already began writing a wishlist for chapter 4 haha - alas i have to be a bit more minute and reserved going forward because we recently found out that both chapter 4 and chapter 5 are already planned out with 4 being closer to set in stone. As such i dont have too much pull on this channel to divert a train on the tracks but I hope to find generic, general, non thematic changes that will make the universally better regardless of whatever the devs plans have set in motion.
      I think taking a break from CK3 is fine - i personally couldnt miss out on seeing the landless gameplay implementation but i really enjoy game of thrones mod so theres that.
      As for the achievements, its a mixed bag, some people live for quality of life mods (i use an artifact manager mod and a better barber shop to make the scenes you see in this video haha) btu as you say some people will abuse it to cheese bragging rights to all achievements which does sour the legitimacy of the challenge. I think they want to appease the majority and this was most likely the best option

    Great video!
    For me the major improvments to the game would be:
    -choosing the counties inherited (as you brought up). Feels like me being an emporer/king/duke have literally zero power when it comes to the heirs.
    -adjusting acceptance levels for decisions (etc your heir becoming a monk). But with more negative drawbacks for yourself (claimant factions, rivals etc)
    And the most important feature:
    -make the ai utilize the systems in place for personal gain (make it smarter)
    Ex. None of the norse counties, dukes, kings even use varangians or huscarls? Why?
    The game becomes a cookie-clicker experience after your first 2-3 playthroughs. It feels like I have to RP beyond infinity to not become ultra powerful (no matter the starting point)
    And maybe the most controversial point:
    -less events per pilgrimmage/hunt etc?!?
    I have this opinion partly because of there being such little sample of events, making every event happen in 1 lifetime. Nothing new will happen when you play as your heir.
    UI improvement:
    Clicking for info about character shows up behind all other windows making you drag 3 windows screens to the side to be able to do what you want. Massive flaw in UI/UX-design.

      Also with most added features to the game (from expansions), the game gets easier and more snowbally.

    For the “Tall poppy events” can’t you set successful characters to be more likely to get harm events? Not as detailed but a good short term fix.

    Totally agree about events. With ai being able to generate unique thousands of events it’s sort of inexcusable they have not added many many more in free updates

  • @PresindentofPain
    @PresindentofPain Před 6 měsíci

    You've brought up some valid arguements.
    I'd rather see them throw all of CK2's events into an AI prompt and tell it to create events based on those though. I don't trust the team working on CK3 to make more events.
    Some gripes I've had, during a crusade i've been attacked by other christian counts/dukes over claims, whilst crusading. There is no repurcussion for this, which there should be. I also think Gavelkind should fuck off from non-germanic cultures especially in Islam where such a thing didn't even excist. I completely agree on child mortality being far too low. Having a ruler with 12+ kids who all live to adulthood is just wrong. The lack of control over inheritance forces players to blob. Conquer a new Duchy, hand your non primary heirs that land so your primary heir can take the stuff you've been developing in your lifetime. This just forces you into map-painting which you dont want.
    Another gripe I've got is that there is too many Kingdom titles. France, arguable the main-character of CK3 never survives in my games, it's always fucking Aquitaine, ALWAYS, France itself is long dead and the land never re-unites after Baldie kicks the bucket.

      I had two Frances at the end of one of my Campaigns. I think you have just been unlucky. I also had a mega Burgundy once, that was fun. I also had a Catholic Mongol Horde, that was not fun.

    Events are legit ruining the game we don't need more to take us out of the game we need them to actually fix the game loop to make the underlying mechanical side of the game fun. Events must be necessity become repetitive. If you are an experienced player a la eu4 which means like 1000-3000 hours you WILL know all events and all of them simply become do you want prestige or stability ? Why is eu4 so popular still? Because the mechanical side of the game is fun. What a dead end this is is clearly shown by the throne room btw I have seen threads where people ask if they can manually disable that feature because it is tedious to click through events that take you out of the game so much. Ck3 has a much much much bigger problem than most people seem to think events are trying to plaster over a game that is lacking when it comes to mechanics. Innovating new mechanics is much harder than writing another poopenfarten event chain where my character dies of diarrhoea

    • @jackochainsaw
      @jackochainsaw Před 4 měsíci

      I love the Royal Court. But it could have been so much better. They need to update these mechanics systematically as they go along. Then, they will have more player agency. When you can get good things out of a system, you are inclined to use it more. People sleep on the good events you can get in the Royal Court. The Land Census is expensive but has a really good boost to your income and development gains for a period. One of my Kings even found a wife with the head rolling event, she was the one who burst into court.
