  • Am I Dumping PSVR2 for a Flat Screen in GT7? - In this video I will be trying to race in Gran Turismo 7 on a flat screen. Ever since getting GT7, I have only raced in PSVR2 but this time I will be trying to race on a flat screen. Most people play this game on a flat screen so I wanted to see can it actually be better that way? Was I missing something by only racing on PSVR2? I will be sharing what my racing experience was like on a flat screen and if I will stay with it or immediately go back to PSVR2 for GT7.

      I doubt it. It's one of the only titles that actually gets played on psvr2. Why they are adding pc support. I wouldn't of bought a psvr 2 if I wasn't a sim racer. I've got enough pc and standalone headsets. I didn't need these expensive upgrades. To this day it's the only title I've played on psvr 2. All the good ones are on steam or quest anyway. Quest 3 my go to as it's wireless, works instantly.

      I had this thought today as well. I don’t really want to play racing games that aren’t in VR anymore.
      I would stop playing GT if there isn’t VR support.
      That’s ok, I love a lot of games. No other genre of game has excelled in VR like racing, IMO

    As an A+ driver. I only drive in VR.
    Flat screen does have some advantages on bumper/roof cam. You can anticipate on the apex and throttle moment better. It is more user friendly.
    And VR does have some disadvantages like the throttle imput, and hitting the apex is more based on instinct. You cannot always see the apex and even some turns in VR. And you have to get earlier on throttle than you think most of the time.
    When I drive a quick flat screen race or TT I really feel a disconnect to the car and steering imputs. So I understand what you say and feel.
    VR gives true immersion I think. And you can be fast. But I think its "harder" to be fast(er) in VR for most people.
    As a A+ driver and most of the time Top25 in the world leaderboards. It shows that you can be fast in VR. And I would never switch to flat screen for some potential pace gain or consistency.
    Liked the video, great to see some VR2 content aswell. Because it really lacks VR content for GT7
    Greetings 💪🏻

    Flat screen is like a game. Vr is like sitting in a real car. Yes, ur spot on. People complain about sweatting in vr. But it’s a bit funny to me. Real, drivers wear helmets and sweat. I grabbed the VR2 at launch and it has largely gathered dust since. What turns me off GT7 in VR is the lack of race info which for league racing puts me at a disadvantage. But, after giving ACC on console a go, I’ve come back to GT7 wanting to use VR more because I’ve enjoyed driving from the cockpit view. I’m now making a go at switching to VR full time, but really wish PD would bring some quality of life updates to VR2.

    Only real negatives of VR2 on GT7 for me is the setting it up each time and the lack of track information showing where other cars are on track. For example in a longer race like Le Mans 700 where pitting is needed etc.

    Great thoughts. I have one quibble regarding sense of speed. If GT7 flatscreen is all you play, sure you can get used to it. But if you also race ACC, iRacing and other sim titles, jumping back into GT7 on a flat screen is a painful experience. You have to delete your memory of the previous games sense of speed to get your eye in on GT7 flat.
    And going back to a different sim after hours of gameplay on GT7 flat, you have to unlearn GT7 flat sense of speed all over again, every time.
    GT7 in VR the problem goes away. VR for life!

    In VR, I still know I’m playing a game. It feels more like I’m looking through a camera than I am there. It’s a 3D camera, but it has its own FOV that isn’t my own. There are three main reasons for this: 1) graphical fidelity isn’t quite up to snuff. If the graphics were able to match what the PS5 does on flat screen, this likely wouldn’t be a thing. But it isn’t, I know it’s a game because it looks like a game. This can be fixed in the future as things get better. The next two could in theory just be fixed in software; they’re kind of related too. 2) driver size in game is much larger than I am as a person and you can see this from that POV. 3) driver position in some cars seems really off. Both the RX7 and RX8 showcase this pretty well IMO; my head feels like it’s too high in the cockpit. Though I should probably get into a Miata and see how that is.

    PsVR2 changed the game completely unfortunately I think the VR community has been abandoned completely seems like PD isn’t going to listen when the community wants an update to be given a leaderboard or additional race info but never the less PSVR2 gave GT7 a new player base because it add the immersion I know plenty of people that came from iracing and now play GT7 because of how simple it is to just play and play. Regardless of the PSVR2 I always loved GT games and was going to play it, I just hope GT8 will also be VR compatible

I always say if it comes down to it, I would rather be slower in VR than faster on a flat screen anyway. For me, it's about the whole experience you get in VR. I'm not worried about being the fastest out there. Of course, that doesn't mean I don't always try and improve my driving.

    So I learned on flat screen. Got the psvr2 and used for like 6 months solid. Got very comfortable with it and my times were just as quick. I ended up ditching for competitive racing though. The lack of information on screen is the biggest drawback. It’s such an advantage for other drivers to have the leaderboard and splits etc. now I just use the psvr2 for fun when I’m not competing in daily races or whatever. It takes like 30 mins to get used to it when I put it on and about 30 mins to get used to things after taking it off. Definitely takes me a little time to get up to speed when switching

      VR headsets aren't sold for the purpose of streaming. They are sold for the purpose of immersion for the user. Also, I couldn't disagree more with calling it a gimmick. For sim racing, it's far from it in my opinion.

      @@thecasualracinggamer Thanks for the amazing update but it's rather patronising of you .I didn't infer that streaming was a vr's intended purpose. Real Captain Obvious observation. Of course, you could have understood that easily from my initial response.

    • @thecasualracinggamer
      @thecasualracinggamer  Před měsícem

      I don't stream my content, I pre-record it and also add other views for the enjoyment of my audience. So, I get to race how I like when creating content and I am able to present my videos to a wider audience. I completely understand why a live streamer wouldn't want to stream in VR.
      You claimed VR was a gimmick, but your complaint for it was regarding streaming which is why I said what I said. There is no need for the little digs in your comment if you want to actually have a conversation with me.

    • @traindriva
      @traindriva Před měsícem

      @@thecasualracinggamer so, because it's pre recorded it can't be considered as a stream. Right. Nevertheless, what the viewer sees in either case is exactly the same except you can cut out any content you find unacceptable. As a viewer it is horrendous. The violent changes that accompany head movement, the blur, the complete absence of useful information, no perspective, other cars, gaps, times, sectors, it's all very very poor.
      Like I said in my original post, it's fine on a personal level but a gimmick nonetheless. No one streams in it and only very ordinary b and c graders attempt to stream in it. I think it's okay for a game or two but it's exhausting, hot and sweaty and ultimately it's proven unpopular with most.
