She is alive!!!!!
Thanks mr old west traveler, bet itâs warmer in Arizona then here
Save your rear end gear lube bottles with the small funnel ends and use them to fill the carb from the vent with Gas. No need to endlessly crank it.
nice tip, I have plenty of those right now.
VVG video two fore on Black Friday, big win for me. Itâs great to a community of people sharing unneeded parts to make a awesome bird. Thanks for sharing your videos and time Jon , I always learn something new.
lol best day ever!! I enjoy saving these car and recruiting as many people as possible to help.
Hello Jon
Enjoy your videos you are very knowledgeable. I was a heavey truck mechanic for 37 years I'm now 70 years old. I've owned Pontiac's every since I was 16. My first was a 69 Firebird 4 speed. Got married and car had to go. Later in life I bought a 68 Firebird. And also a 69 GTO. Had to sale both to pay for my son. Later on I bought a 67 GTO from my brother in law been in the family since 1972. Still have it. My son bought a 67 Firebird that was race ready. Still have it. Don't race it much because the cost of fuel. After I retired I told my wife I would like to buy another 69 Firebird. I found one and purchased it. The out side was finished. It needed floor pans and carpet. So that's been my project since I retired. Putting on new chrome and dressing it up just a bit. I was watching this video and engine looks and sounds great. You my already know this but I'm going to give some old school and old man tips. First I took a old distubator and ground the gear off of it and use it with a drill I never liked cranking a engine over with out priming the engine first.
The other tip is get a cleaned out gear oil bottle fill it about a half way up of the vent tube in front of the carburetor gose straight into the float bowl. I fill the float bowl with fuel. It saves the starter from over heating and saves the battery.
Keep up the great work đ
Ron from a little Town in Virginia
Nice collection. I have also sold my
TransAm For the kiddos. Thanks for the tips too. That is the point share the knowledge and years of experience because once itâs gone itâs gone
Morning Jon,
Belated Happy Thanksgiving to you, the family and all of your followers.
Thanks buddy, i hope your thanksgiving was great also.
Sounds GREAT!
Thanks, stated right up
Once it got Some fuel.
Hello buddy what a great feeling to hear that pontiac motor alive sounds good you really have everything looking clean I like the idea đĄ of using the subframe as a engine test sand I just might buy a extra one to do the same I will be sending you the parts soon you are the man I love the way everything is going great job đ
thanks pal, your help is appreciated!
Heck yea, buddy!!! Looks awesome! Gad to see some extra parts cleaned up and working for you!! "We all can work... But together we win!!"
That fan was a killer score worked perfectly for this build.
It lives, engine sounds good, wonder how good that carb is long term?
I suppose we shall see, I will keep you posted.
That 350 is purring! Good work!
Not bad for just dropping in the distributor and bumping the stater with a little gas. Need to set the timing and check the carb too but wow that one fired up quick
That engine sounds really good and you haven't even done any tuning on it yet!
Nope havenât even set the timing yet, i think this will be a great engine for this build.
Sounds great! Love the content. Getting ready to start working on my 68 firebird so Iâm really glad I found your channel. So much great info! Thanks.
Awesomeness! This car was a running and driving car when i started but needed a lot of love. Keep it fun and Good luck on your build.
I havent heard myP350 run since 1992.. Cant wait
Thatâs a looooooong time. I am sure it will fire up and live again
Wow, thatâs an awesome video. We are definitely going to follow your lead before installing the subframe.đ
I just like the idea of test running it to verify it ls all good. Plus itâs really easy to attach it back to the body too. The only negative I have experienced is keeping it clean during the body work stage.
That's awesome! You make it look too easy!
Hey I get lucky every once and awhile. đ
Always satisfying when it runs! What is that white stuff outside lol?
Heck yeah this one fired right up canât complain! The white stuff is the end of fun and like a cuss word in my world. That means no more classic car driving until all the spring showers wash all the salt away. đ
Great work. That engine sound really smooth. You are really getting through your project and thats a great idea to run them on the subframe before toy install it into the car. Keep up the good work.
Had a leak at the transmission dipstick tube super easy fix right now. Totally worth the effort to fire it up. Thanks for watching buddy. Hope to see your bird all shiny soon.
@@VinylVillageGarage Me too. No word on it yet.
Great work,Jon.
Thanks, hopefully have the car back on four wheels by the end of this month
Excellent tutorials thank you!
No problem, just having fun playin cars
Who the heck rebuilds a Pontiac Sunbird? Oh...wait....me. LOL Thanks for the the VVG Certification, Jon!
We do it for the love of the cars!! Now, you have to get back to it!
Oh Monza platform. I Didnât know Pontiac made them. Will it be V8 powered?
@@billiebrew2185 yes. Still debating SBC or LS.
âŠPontiac 455 đ
@@VinylVillageGarage I have a buddy with a Sunbird drag car with a 455. It fits amazingly well.
Don't you want as little as possible cranking when firing up a freshly rebuilt motor?
Cranking not concerned with if it was primed, now extended idle with a non-roller cam would be an issue for sure.
Good work, John! Also, sound advice on pre-running the engine prior to buttoning it up in the body.
Thanks, I have done my last three builds this way. Last thing I want to deal with is a oil pan or oil leaks that require taking the engine back out. After the car is all assembled. I donât like scratching the paint!
Why is the car going to Florida? Nice video again. Great information
Good question! because that is itâs home when done. wish this was my car but itâs not. i donât normally do restoration projects for other people but he asked at the right time and place. I wanted to do a car from beginning to end on the channel and both of my birds didnât meet that. so what better way to do that then someone elseâs car? plus I wonât go broke doing another one at my expense. đ love these old birds but they arenât cheap to build or is it cheep đđ€Šââïžđ€Ł
@@VinylVillageGarage That's a perfect situation. I was just curious. Very punny by the way.
Wow! sounds awesome. Glad the distributor worked. Is that the stock coil and wiring harness? That may be the solution to my HEI problem on my Camaro.....
Yes, 1968 factory harness. The only wire omitted was the white one from the stater solenoid to the coil. That wire is only necessary for a pointed ignition.
What kind of issue are you having with the HEI?
Nice build! It's looking great!
Where did you find that quadrajet? Would you mind posting a link?
Itâs an eBay special, the price looks like it went up $30 since I bought mine.
This is the eBay link

@@VinylVillageGarage Thanks for the link! I'm really enjoying the videos. They're definitely lighting a fire under my backside to get back to work on my Pontiac! đđ
Thatâs great! To many projects get back burnered and forgotten about, it would be awesome to get it going again.
@VinylVillageGarage - any tips on carb tuning? My '68 Bird starts up with a really high idle, and I typically have to hit the accelerator pedal a bunch of times to get it to kick down to normal idle.
I can do up something on a quadrajet carb. Sound like you choke is opening to slow which will effect fast idle cam operation. What carburetor are you using and what type of choke? Electric or heat activated?
@@VinylVillageGarage It's a Quad, and looks like it's heat activated. Thanks for the reply! Love watchinig your restorations!!
@ezakoske right on! Thanks for watching
Grade 8 carburetor bolts
Now way itâs coming off. đ
I just pulled my â73 formula into the garage after not seeing it for 13 years. Hooked up some jumper cables and got nada. Iâm so bummed.
Not cool, like it doesnât even crank? Either way Nice car does it still have the formula hood on it?
Iâll take it?
Me too
The fan location looks too far back...Is that clutch correct?
Not to say itâs right but my GTO Which is all original clutch fan it sites when sighted straight on about 1/2 the fan blade width os also exposed just like the bird.
I saw that carburetor on ebay, great price.
Great price just hope itâs good. I will give feedback once I start driving it.
I replaced the bi-metal choke piece a few years ago, made a HUGE difference in how my car runs when it is first started.
Hi Jon, do you think it would be possible to find a 1967 Pontiac 400 YT engine nowadays or is that something I better forget about?
They are out there but getting slim pickings for sure. I believe my friend Brian just found one in Arizona. I know itâs a 67 400 and thought it was a YT
Ok thanks. Iâll keep looking.
Where did you show how you installed the coil springs?
Never mind, I found it on your other video. Thanks.
Yup
For 1970 pontiac 400 with quadrajet, how turns of the air/mixture screws all the in to out would you recommend as a good start. I hope I am saying this right.
Idle mixture screws initial settings 2.5-3 turns out is a great place to start then place a vacuum gauge on a manifold vacuum port with engine at operating temp and at idle and then adjust the screws in or out to obtain the highest vacuum reading possible.
Thank You Much!
