- Our first time in Kadikoy, Istanbul's asian side in Turkey (Turkiye).
We we were impressed by the market, and friendly people.
We also tried some delicious Turkish street food like lahmacun (Turkish pizza), midye dolma (Turkish stuffed mussels), lokma (Turkish donuts), and some Turkish coffee and tea, and Turkish delight.
Check out our day exploring the asian side of Istanbul.

He says " vakum paket "" He could make vacuum packet for you to take to Canada. 😊
It's not regular tea 😊Made old traditional way: tea leaves steamed on top and flavour slowly released. Steamer at the bottom. You could tell it's traditional way because the colour is bright not cloudy as with 5 sec tea bags dipped in boiled water. And that's Turkish Coffee, long before Espresso. Ottoman Empire opened the first cafes in Europe, in Vienna and Budapest - was part of Ottoman Empire - and Constantinople(capital of Ottoman Empire and Roman Empire)/Istanbul and introduced coffee to rest of Europe. But Ottoman Empire had discovered coffee from its African states. No you leave the thick bottom part. That's for turning the coffee cup over, let it cool down for someone to read your present and future.
Steve! Your wife is right 😊Try in Turkey. Maybe you had Baklava in Canada. I'm sorry they keep those Baklava in the shop nearly a month, more like a rock and also made with margarine and peanuts. Sorry, that's not Baklava. Baklava is made daily, sold daily in Turkey. And it's flaky not like rock, and made with butter and nuts could be hazelnuts, pistachio, walnuts. Never margarine or peanuts.
That Döner place you went in the market in Kadiköy, I think it's the cheapest Döner and Lokma takeaway shop in Turkey 😂If I go to Asia to visit my relatives, I always pop in that market to have coffee and cake across the church in the centre ( the one you saw after getting lokma😊The one wearing the hat is the staff has been there for years and years has a nearly 40 year old son, and the one without the hat is the owner) , do fresh fish, fruit and vegetables shopping then have a quick bite take away at that Döner place because they're always friendly and food is good for the price. Otherwise, to sit down I go to the one at the entrance, the old workers men restaurant because their quince with cream dessert is yummy, and also price is good for a lunch restaurant.
Your wife seems having such a peaceful aura and also smart. Listen always your wife because women always know better 😉🧿
Thanks for this! Very informational
These "Blue-Eye" talismans/lucky charms (they protect against the "evil eye" of envious people) are definitely Turkish/turkic culture and not Greek. Historically, Turkic folks live from the Balkans/Eastern Europe to West China til the great wall of China, so they brought their culture with them to three continents. You can also see "Blue Eye" lucky charms in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Siberia, and in large regional parts of Russia, wherever Turk folks have lived for thousands of years. Greeks are culture thieves they steal and copy everything from the Turks, our food culture, our carpet motifs, our art works, as well as our lucky charms and other historical Turkish items.
This is not baby blue, but turquoise, (turqu-oise = Turk color) the cultural and historical color of all Turkic tribes. The color "blue" in all variations is also a typical copy/imitation of the Greeks. The first banner (flag/Sanjak) of the Turks was a turquoise flag with a crescent and star, or other motifs depending on the tribe, but the basic color was always turquoise or light blue.
btw about the dog that looks same with the other dogs, there are some dogs who are known to casually use the ferry to hang around between two sides
What a difference from when I was in Istanbul for a few days back in 1971. Back then the weather was grey and it gave the feeling of a post war espionage movie; there were no skyscrapers nor suspension bridge. However, found the people to be very friendly and hospitable. Thank you for sharing, it revived fond experiences.
concrete everywhere is a city close to dying now
@@Westanbul i dont think so
@@woulinx how long have you been living in Istanbul to say this?
interestingly the bridge was built 2 years after your visit
things have changed since 1971. but the food is the same. delicious :)
I've traveled to many countries in Europe and Asia in the past 15 years, but Istanbul is by far my favorite place. I hope I'll be living there one day.
anytime you're welcome💙
Dude! Bosphorus is not a river. One of my favorite cities in the world, enjoy your stay :)
He didn’t say it was. He said the ferry ride felt like a luxury river cruise
@@dougl945yeah he said it literally Started the video with that
@@dougl9454:50
This city is so gorgeous, I'm impressed, honestly
Oh you're in my beloved Kadıköy, the best neighborhood in Istanbul. Guys, while in Turkey, do not miss the beyran soup and the katmer dessert, two of the best Turkish dishes, though not that well known as others
Turkisj food truly is AWESOME. Maybe the most underrated cuisine in the world.
hey, it's not a river, it's the Sea of Marmara, that is, the Bosphorus, it connects the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara. Enjoy your trip😊 😊
Wow, what an incredible vibe these streets and places have. They have such a vivid and joyful atmosphere.
I am Turkish-Canadian and thanks such a very educational and colorful video. Love the vibe. Most known symbol of Turkiye if you ask me as a Turkish, I will say the evil eye (Nazar Boncugu). It is very Turkish. Enjoy your trip and have a lot of fun. I also traveled many countries but Turkish people are the most incredible and friendly people.
Thanks, John! Glad you like the video. We are liking Turkey
Evil eye is not Turkish 😉
@@potatoemperor231 Its Turkic and Mongolian not Turkish 😉
@@woulinx are you trolling or ignorant?
@@VindarnaViskar You are ignorant because you dont know the difference between Turkic and Turkish

For clarification, Bosphorus is not a river. It is sea. Rivers usually came from Mountain and empty to the sea. But Bosphorus is came from one sea to the other one.
Yes, and this sea separates Asia and Europe continents.
Bosphorus is a strait. And Marmara Sea is the sea that separates the Aegean Sea from the Black Sea.
From one Canadian to both of you. Love your channel. I like the way you'll interact with people who don't speak English. There are lots of good people in this world and we just have to be patient to learn they culture. Also love your commentary on whatever you see. Always like the postives of every place. Love you'll as a couple travelling the world. Take and stay safe.
Thank you
Turkey is so vibrant & colorful. Love it❤❤❤
Muito bom😂😂😂
Yalnız artık Turkey denilmiyor TÜRKİYE deniliyor bro orjinal adı
6:40 How to make purple olives?
Blueberry Purple Olive - Berceste
Green olives collected from the branch are kept in pools for flavoring for 15 days. Green olives are sweetened by changing the juice to a certain extent. After sweetening the olives in these pools, they are rested in blueberry and beet juice to get their aroma.
The multi camera setup is genius! Makes it even more interesting, multiple angles.
Love this! The gentleman is so nice ❤
Istanbul still has that crazy vibe of "organized chaos" that I overwhelmed by in 1999, when I visited the city. I was 19, I went there from Bucharest by train (a 22 hours sleeper train 1st class) as a reward from my family for taking the University exam :). Few things I remember as striking: the huge number of friendly cats (that's also true for summer resort cities like Antalya or Bodrum), the insane traffic, the guy at the coffee shop who wouldn't serve me another cup because "it is too strong for me", the friendly people, just by the edge of being too much, but not crossing that limit. And, of course the cold Efes on a street terrace.
PS: after drinking the Turkish coffee there's an old custom in Romania to put the cup upside down and let the "zatz" (coffee mud) go on the cup walls. They make funny patterns in which an old lady can tell your fortune :))
The fortune telling thing is prevalent in Turkey too. There is even an android app for this :)
what is the app called? Would like to try it😃
@@JetLagWarriors Kaave and Faladdin. I don't know if they have English languagr option but there many more apps like this.
I love Turkey. Amazing
I just love being in Kadikoy, can never get tired of Istanbul.
Awesome video guys! Have a fantastic time!
I miss my beautiful city soo much! Loved your video and your vibes. The music in the background brings more emotions to the video. So glad to hear you it is a city you would consider living in. Greetings from New York City 👋🏼
I love turkish 💞
Wow! That's great video! Love it💙💙
I feel I'm in Turke 😊nice social video guys❤
Amazing city.
05:47 made with beetroot juice
06:50 he trying to tell you we can send to Canada with vacuum carco if you want
09:15 Turkish appetizers for fish, for fish and alcohol.
10:28 it's Turkish but have in Greek as well. '' Evil eye '' for save you bad eyes and take bad energy. Greek people also Ottomans people in the past. They are influenced by our culture. they even claim that most things are theirs, but they slander Turkey everywhere. There is no problem between peoples, there are between states.
22:52 Sea cowpea is a little salty, comes naturally in salt on the beach, is an appetizer eaten with fish, and there is another similar type, grown in the same place, but sweet. we call deniz börülcesi and deniz fasulyesi.
19:50 Midye dolma best food in the world for me but should be find who make delicious because many seller but taste not always same, should be good chief :) him mussel pcs so expensive. also mussels best friend with beer
24:35 Turkish lokma only in İzmir city you can find free other cities you should pay.
In the original, morsels are made for reasons such as funerals, charity wishes, celebrations, circumcision weddings and oil lamps, and they are offered to people free of charge.
thanks for the info!
@@JetLagWarriors My pleasure
Although Istanbul isn't famous for the lokma, the sugary dessert is also given free around mosques and school areas. (Bahar-yaz aylarında Söğütlüçeşme otobüs durağının biraz gerisinde dağıtıyorlar, çok denk geldim yol üstü.)
Geez, I'm a sleepy head. Missed the premiere . Of course watched now!! Keep enjoying and I will keep enjoying with you!! ❤ Keep safe, healthy and happy!
çekimlerinizin kalitesi,pozitif enerjiniz ,iletişiminiz harika
I don't understand why tourists expect the Asian side be any different than the European side. Really laughable.
you break all the secret my brother 😂
Twice visited Istanbul, amazing
Lahmachun is life. Everybody calls it Turkish pizza.
Calling it pizza is a insult to lahmacun.
Once you eat lahmacun you always seek for it after some day
2:00 The Turkish soap operas are so famous here in Bulgaria that when we were traveling on the Bosphorus the tour guide was constantly updating us which house we are seeng from which movie lol
The place at the beginning with cannons is actually the resting place of the greatest Ottoman admiral: Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha. The place is a naval museum today. If you took your time, you could have seen some big cannons that were used during conquest of Istanbul in 1453.
All the best.
It made me happy to see the beautiful places where I spent my youth years, thank you...😍
nice vlog tumb up for tourist^^
Haha.. 😂6:42 The man tries to say that he can vacuum pack the fruit so it will be fresh after the flight to Canada. "Vaküm" ..tries to say in english..😂
Nice choice of beer mate :)
I just got back from Istanbul recently.
It's so funny seeing the restaurants/meals I went during my trip getting featured in this video.
Super reminiscing some happy memories I had there
Share your favorite places, please 😊
@JetLag Warriors
I didn't take note most of the names of the restaurants that I went.
I sort of randomly went in those that I found interesting.
But my favourite restaurant was Meşhur Sariyer Börekçisi cafe. I would go there everyday for breakfast. I was so addicted to their Borek.
I also remembered going to non Turkish restaurants. Near the Çapa-Şhremını tram station, there's an Indonesian restaurant called Warung Nusantara. The food was delicious. Tastes the same as what you can get in Indonesia. Definitely will remind Ivana of home.
There's also an Uyghur Restaurant (Western Chinese food) in the area (Çapa-Şhremını) as well, if you're interested in trying something different. The restaurant is called Köklem Uygur Restaurant.
@@firmikalbakery thank you!
@JetLag Warriors
You're most welcome.
Also, may I add, you gotta try checking out the Prince's Islands. One of my favourite places to visit in Istanbul. I'm sure you guys will enjoy it there too.
Really enjoyed your film.....it was great to see local foods, such a change from fake shopping in Turkey guides films. Your wife adds a lovely feminine perspective. ❤️ 😍
We miss so much istanbul😢❤❤❤
Been to Turkiya for 7 times love to go again.
Sevgiyle gezin❤️
You were looking at samphire. Salty. We went to Kadikoy last year but we don’t drink alcohol. We found a nice lokanta where all the locals were eating. Enjoying your vlogs🎉
final comment is very important, after a 5 year traveling experience they found Istanbul a city in which they would live in. That's why I am missing Istanbul too much. greetings from Munih..
Hi from Brazil 🇧🇷 ❤
Everytime when I'm in Istanbul I feel emotional. Istanbul love is real, guys! I have been to this city for more than 15 times and I will always come back to it. I have my rituals when I'm there, like eating the best seafood, best kebabs, best lahmajun, best baklava etc. To walk on the Bosphorus for hours(!!!), to take the ferry multiple times a day and so on. It makes me happy being there! It is a city of endless experiences. Try to explore more local locations next time, you will fall in love more and more.
Yes Kadıköy is more chill. some neighborhoods are more crowded and some less
Welcome to Türkiye
He says he picks light green olives with purple cabbage and beets in brine and gets their color from there. 5:30
Subscribed a while back for your Pakistan vids but am so glad to see you’re in Turkiye now & enjoying the food 💚
The only & I do mean only issue I see is that you could perhaps learn just a few words to communicate with ppl better or use google translate to say just a few words, that goes a long way with ppl. Anyway great channel you’re both so great
6:13 he is saying he put those olives in water with beet. He colored them naturally.
as a turkish girl i really liked ur videos thanks a lot. also i wanna say im addicted to turkish coffee and it has to be bitterrrr!! ahhaha and im drinking almost 4-5 cups in a day and the bottom part we call that telve whichhh is the bestt thing everrr!! you should try to chew it ahhhaha lol
Hi, the stuff you thought might be seaweed was actually samphire, so yes,VA type of seaweed, in the UK we pickle it.
There are so many stray cats in turkey so cute
Hey guys, greetings from Toronto! The olive guy in Asian side was saying that the purple is from Beet; they dip it in beet juice :)
Very nice 👍 video
Haha you did the right thing popping out the beer at the end :) Its a perfect spot to enjoy the sunset with a beer, Ive been there loong time ago.
You have seen the best parts of Istanbul, Im glad you guys enjoyed it, but its kind of expensive there ... The more affordable parts, suburbs, are not that good if I need to be honest.
The achilles heel of Istanbul is the traffic. If you need to deal with traffic to a get to job etc Istanbul its pretty terrible.
If you work remote, or have a job that you can walk to, then its great to live.
You guys are awesome. Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia are my favorite countries to visit. Any plans of going back to Indonesia?
We will be in both Malaysia, and Indonesia, in Sept-Oct! Stay tuned :)
@@JetLagWarriors I’m going back to Malaysia in October as well. My 10th trip there.
Very helpful video, ya now i am a bit aware of a few things, so thanks🙂 how about taxies is it safe? Do you tio them? How about ladies clothes or pants?
0:02 Not 'only'! Many people make the same mistake and don't look at the map and don't see the other strait of marmara sea: dardanel (çanakkale). By the way, is europe a continant according to tecnic of geography (not surrounded by water on four sides)
you are enjoying your stay so far?
Hello how are you doing ? I like your videos 👍🇹🇷
mussels are actually a hangover afterparty snack dude... you should have it with beers
first guy says he will vacuum it so you can take it to canada with plane that Hand gesture and whistle means plane I think
13:30 amazing.
Usually most sellers would give you a sample to taste and if you decide to buy the sample is not a part of the price. And you can always say if you dont like it or decide not to buy/pay anything.
woow so nice
man you look like chairman lenin, greetings from turkey 🤗
U should visit Kale in alanya the view is nice and there are good resteraunts (better when the sun is setting) also there are nice resteraunts close to docks near kale
I love you guys! Thank you for sharing your adventures with us! Be blessed, much love 💕
Ps: 6:58 he wanted to know if you came by plane ✈️ (what a question tho.. ofc you came by plane, he’s an old man tho, he doesn’t know)
Actually many tourists come by cruise ships so it is not a stupid question. There is a cruise ship port nearby.
I ate something like that in Paris also Turkey is on my bucket list lovely 🐈⬛ cats there in the markets
🤩👏👏👏🔝
The colorful Olives has been put in a vegetable water. Different veggies gives different colors. He says beet juice in the video.
Turks used to believe in Tengrism, we had Shamans, and they used evil eye beads in rituals to remove negative energy! Even tying beads and ribbons to trees, making wishes is a tradition of those days. It has nothing to do with Islam.😊
Yeah we dont mess around with our coffee lol :) Turkish coffee looks like an espresso, but its a different process. The ground the coffee very fine, and mix directly with water. It has to sit a while for the ground coffee to settle, then you can drink it. As you guessed, you are not meant to drink the bottom :)
zeytin satan amca çok tatlıısın
Love from Pakistan 🇵🇰 ❤
The purple olives are colored with beet roots, as he says. And, yes, in fact he want to know if you want to take the olives to Canada, so he can make a vacuum packaging.
Türkiye İstanbul, İzmir, Antalya, kapodakya paradise ı love you frends
The olive guy was trying to explain that he can vacuum the package of olives if you buy so you can safely fly to canada with your delicious olives. The colours is most likely red cabbage
zeytin satan amca çok sevimli, Allah ona ömür versin
Do you not use apps for translation? The video is great but surely using apps would have helped with knowing the food names or what they are or the translation of delicious for example.
Is Yvonne Korean? I see one of your caption in Korean. What month did you guys go to Istanbul?
