    This is a good example of choosing based on the desired effect. I also own .22 and.177. I prefer the .22 because it expends all of it's energy on the target. The .177 makes a smaller hole and spends it's residual energy in the dirt behind the target. I want a bigger impact on target because I'm not shooting at anything behind the target. Great video. It's always fun shooting at something with enough metal to demonstrate the power of the rifle. Soda cans won't do that.

    Makes sense that in the same poweplant, the .177 will have better sectional density and penetrate better. That can be a plus or minus for hunting. On thick skulled critters one doesn't want a pellet to flatten out on whatevers skull and not get enough penetration. On the other hand one doesn't want a complete drill bit effect simply zipping through whatever it hits. That's why picking the right pellet that penetrates and expands and shoots accurately is important.

    Really great to see your enthusiasm and honest, simple approach to airguns. I'm getting into Gamo just now after years of Air Arms and Steyr top tier airguns....and Hatsan too, because of videos like yours that prove that you don't need to spend a lot to...first of all, have fun...which is entirely the point!....but to have a great shooting experience and shoot accurate, powerful airguns. Got the .177 eyeballed at a local gun shop and just may have to return very soon to purchase it! Hi! Will check it out… and as an avid Airgun fan for over 50 years .. Airguns ARE ‘real guns.. haha .. just not firearms of course! You guys can purchase Airguns putting out nearly a 1000 joules of energy where as here we are limited to 24 joules.. lol. It’s easy here to register a firearm than an Airgun.. we have SO much ignorance of guns here in Spain, which is odd as some of the best Airguns in the world are made in Europe. I have some Steyr and Air Arms FT rifles that cost over 3000 bucks .. lol… but they are masterpieces. Gamo is solid, basic old Skool Airgunning so it’s a nice change and challenge to shoot these types of Airguns. Thanks again and will check out your other stuff!!! 😊🙏🏻

    I’m not surprised that the .177 is performing better than the .22… If it’s anything I learned is that I was right the first time. FPS matters more than FPE when looking for penetration. A sharper object penetrates better than a blunt object. If the FPE is the same, the .177 will penetrate better.
    I’m sure there are some changes when comparing a .357 with “longer” ammunition, but I’m hoping to be able to cover that information soon by finding the exact speed required for a .357 to pass through my test.

Hornets are superior in all aspects, and proven extremely effective not only against hard material but also against animal tissues (pest's bones, joints, muscles...). Closely followed by Metalmag. Hornet is a bit (just a little bit) heavier than Rocket, and is ultimately pointed (whereas Rocket has spherical head), which is inevitably resulting in deeper penetration.

      @@DrAgan_tortojed So to your intended use damage does matter. You mentioned the hornet demonstrated better wound channel than others. Wounding comes from expansion. The hornet expanded more than the rocket on my test therefore it didn’t penetrate hard metal as well. For hunting purposes you don’t want penetration only. There has to be a balance between penetration and damage. For small game typically hunted with pellet rifles, penetration is not a concern. Damage is, therefore max expansion is desired. An example from centerfires would be why you target shoot with FMJs but you don’t hunt with them. They just poke holes. They use the exact same piston system so the .22 is slower to r you cold also say weaker than the .177. If the .22 had an improved piston system that produces more force than the .177 then it would be superior. @@HuntShootLive while that is true the pellets retain much more energy at impact (given the 20 yard distance) than that normal pellet. But also like you say, the slower start speed could be limiting. I think they would go trough no problem even at slower speeds. I know they don’t go trough 3mm steel at 20 yards (tested it) but never had the chance to test a car door.

    the 22s are slower with more mass and diameter.

    Wrong pellets to penetrate the door, possibly. Definitely want harder pellets

      If you have a chance try the skenco hyper velocity 22-there’s a kid on CZcams testing out these different pallets, and he showed the harder lighter pellets doing better than the softer heavier pellts in regards to piercing hard object. Probably different testing circumstances from yours but would be cool to look into👍🏾 i also believe he used a weaker 22 break barrel

    The Diana 52 airgun is the best accurate and powerfull airgun! (-" NO COMPROMISE!-")

      @christiangiancamilli2681 I have never shot one but I do see that the Diana 52's advertised velocities for both the .177 and the .22 are significantly less than the Gamo Swarm Magnum. So it may be much more accurate but not sure about the powerful part.

    not a Gen3 like your vid states... the Gen 2 has less FPS than the 3 does... so you are comparing a Gen3 .177 to a Gen2 .22... not the same dude

    • @HuntShootLive
      @HuntShootLive  Před 11 měsíci +2

      @KingMrBigE I do apologize if I stated the gen incorrectly. However, the “upgrade” between gen 2 and 3 was the loading system. Nothing else was upgraded that would impact pellet speed or the gas piston. The advertised speed is nonsense anyway because they use stupidly light pba pellets. Reference my air rifle playlist for a chrono video. But if they do advertise a higher speed with the gen 3 over the 2, it is purely marketing.

    If you had used the right pellets all shots would have penetrate... Skenco long range Skenco hyper velocity and H&N hornets are the best for that... The hyper velocity would go through anything... The only problem with the Skencos is that you have to single load them because of their length

    • @HuntShootLive

      @asoasotriadio The hornets were not as good as the rockets. I’ll look into the skencos.

      @@HuntShootLive With my gamo magnum I shot 2 pieces of hard metal. The hornets penetrated the first one easy but not the second... The skenco hyper velocitys and the long range went through both layers and made damage to the wood behind the layers... They are on another level for penetration

      @HuntShootLive  Před 9 měsíci

      @asoasotriadio Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@HuntShootLive I havent tried the rockets but from what I have seen they are also very good for penetration. I believe Skencos would be better though because they are plastic outside and hard brass inside so all the weight goes to the hard tip unlike the rockets where most of the weight is in the base of the pellet. The metal layers I shot were a little thinner than a car door...

    A covert cop attempting to plant a tracking device on an alleged meth dealers vehicle was was shot with one of these and died. Crazy right, that was in New Zealand. Who’s the bright one that planned that operation, creeping around a meth dealers house in the dark. They must have forgot that meth dealers don’t sleep.
