Classic Olympic highlights as Curling returns to the Winter Olympic programme and Switzerland's men's team beat Canada to the gold medal.
Men's curling was included in the Olympic programme in 1924 at the first Olympic Winter Games in Chamonix. It was then dropped, and later re-introduced as a demonstration sport in 1932 in Lake Placid.
Between 1936 and 1992, curling was staged at the Games as a demonstration sport. It was in Nagano in 1998 that it officially re-joined the Olympic programme, now with both men's and women's competitions.
In the men's competition, it was up to Canada and Switzerland to define who would be the first men's curling Olympic champion since the Chamonix 1924 Winter Games.
The Swiss team took no chances and beat the Canadians by 9-3 to take gold. The North Americans took silver, while the Norwegian team -- which had been beaten by the Swiss in the semi-finals -- won the bronze medal contest against the United States.

Is there a reason that the action highlights contain only clearing shots? Didn't the Swiss make a nice draw shot or two at some stage during the tournament? I'm guessing whoever put the video together doesn't really know curling.

Curling has been in the Olympic winter games of Chamonix 1924, but the results in that competition weren't official until 2006 by the IOC. It started as a demonstration sport at 1932 Lake Placid winter games in New York but also in Calgary 1988 and Albertville 1992 but it made its debut at the 1998 Olympic winter games of Nagano in Japan along with Snowboarding and women's hockey.
