Ah yes. Tomb Raider. The tomb Raider that doesn't raid tombs.

EDIT : and muslim
Tomb Raider ? Never heard of it, sounds like a racist version of Truth Seeker.
any conspiracy theories on why companies are trying to lose money? it doesn't make any sense
Well, yeah. I mean, when last time you saw assassins in Assassin's Creed? This is the same.
I so believe they'll still keep the games name but instead the villain is going to be an evil white man who raids tombs and Lara is going to try and stop him
So another classic being ruined by a modern studio that thinks politics is the key to selling games? Tell me it ain’t so…
what ever happened to fucking capitalism where people use to make things people wanted to buy
@@gamerscomplete I don't get it. Do people not like making lots of money anymore?
At that point we could rightfully suppose they are not interested in making money, at least by selling their game. So much people could not just dumb out so quickly.
Really shows how cult-like they are where even making money takes a back seat to THE MESSAGE.
It's martyrdom.....they are killing games and studios.
Killing is also bad, hence forth call of duty will be a hide and seek game with no guns, because killing is bad - Activision
With Microsoft now being the owners, it wouldn’t surprise me
Just replace all of the actual guns with NERF and squirt guns. Sound design and all.
Yeah... also no games about vikings or assassins or anything like that. It's "hurtful".
@@RavenclawDaisy95 no that just trivializes the danger of guns, we Activision, do not support such evil activities, please support our new game with a focus on diversity. Pre order for 299$ and get a unique rainbow coat because we really care!
This is beginning to look like the "Sarcastaball" episode, from Southpark.
Memes aside, it's really annoying with these studios trying to make every character the most morally right, comfortable, safe-spacey thing imaginable and removing any kind of nuance whatsoever. These are adult children who cannot comprehend that a character can be something else besides 100% good or bad, and think that everyone should think the same way.
The funniest part about this is that they would argue their is no objective good and objective evil.
They do not limite themselves at fiction character. To them if you are not 100% "good" then you are evil.
@@SotheAlbion basically as long as you have no principles and aren’t racist you are good to these kind of people.

The funniest most laughable thing about this is, the reason the British museum is full of Egyptian artefacts isn't because the British raided all of Egypt's tombs, it's because one group of British archaeologists paid the Egyptian government a ton of money to let them look for Tutankhamun's tomb and recover any artefacts they found, and they found it. The other 99% of tombs in the valley were actually raided, by Egyptians, who melted down the gold, pried out the gems, and used everything else (including the mummies) as firewood.
Didn't they eat some of the mummies because supposed healing proprieties?
Don't forget that the pyramids used to have a limestone coating, which was also stolen, mainly to build mosques.
they're just trying to redefine history
There wouldn't even be Egyptology if it wasn't for evil meanie Western colonialists.
They did, as well as crushed the mummies to make a dye called something I forget the name. But it’s literally made from crushed mummy’s haha madness.

Ancient things belong to to international scientific community first, to people who now live in lands where that things was found second. Archaeologists paid by government, not in their findings. And black archaeologists is criminals who robe humanity of information about past (actual archaeologists research not only founded thing but also its placement, surroundings, etc. While robbers just grab things to sell them, dont care about additional information destroyed by retrieving item without research).
So dont defend black archaeologists pls, you do bad job for people. You not supposed to do what Lara do, but same with protagonists of GTA, Payday and many others
@@AtticusKarpenter "give up your peoples ancient artefacts to a rootless clique of international scientists for no reason!" absolutely delusional take and a true Earth™ Citizen™ moment
@@brydro1505 I think a better version of his argument would be that if something is truly abandoned, then it's not theft or cultural appropriation to take it.
Like imagine you drank a can of soda. Crushed it, threw it in the trash. You have no intention of ever seeing it again. Then I come along and see it on top of your trash can, clearly discarded, but I notice it's a rare one of a kind can. Maybe of historical value, possibly of monetary value, certainly of interest to people. So I take it. Is that theft? Legally, no. Ethically ... debatable. But now that you see I've taken it, you conclude that it must have value, and so you want it back.
That's typically what archaeologists do. And when countries claim that their "artifacts" have been appropriated by museums, that's typically what they're doing. A lot of the time these artifacts, had they not been taken by a museum, would have simply rotted in the ground and been forgotten forever even by the people who might otherwise lay original claim to them. In other words the artifact has no value to anyone _until_ the museum identifies that it has value, and _then_ people complain that they want it back.
Hell, if we wanna get extra spicy, sometimes the people who might lay original claim to the artifacts don't even exist anymore, and the people claiming it are the ones who wiped them out and stole their land lol.
@@brydro1505 lol, i'm sorry to upset you and people who liked your comment, but this is exactly as things are. Countries have scientific and cultural treaties, there is UNESCO and other UN divisions who handle such things. Very fun to scream "what the fuck is kilometer" and deny international treaties and laws, but they actually supported by superpowers (when its not against their interests and they not using this laws against each other, of course, but its the same with any law upholding) and its bad udea to argue with them lol

Ah yes. Evil Hat Productions. The tabletop RPG creators. The people who's most notable creation in recent years was a tabletop RPG called "Thirsty Sword Lesbians" (yes, it's a real title) - who also never have made a video game? That's definitely someone to whom I'd trust a franchise like Tomb Raider.
I've enjoyed playing Blades in the Dark for a bit, which was one of their earlier systems, but after I actually started trying to read the book, ninety percent of it was just "here are some vague guidelines, now make everything up on the spot." It's kind of cool, but how in the world is it practical? It actively discourages you from preparing, which is the main thing that makes other systems feasible to run, and the sheer scope of the things it explicitly expects you to pull out of your rear is absurd.
People are blaming Crystal so much, we should be talking more about this woke tabletop maker aka Evil hat. Even the name has evil in it.
@@ClockworkBees That's also one of the reasons why I hate D&D5e and they do that only barely. I can't imagine how much I'd hate it in Blades of the Dark lol.
@@lovethepandainyou Our one-session stint with it was a lot of fun, and there are a lot of opportunities to feel like a genius. It seems like hell for the DM, though, and the book has absurd expectations for people's creativity. There's a massive difference between "I hide in a closet that's definitely always been there" and one of the flashback examples given, of "there's definitely always been a ghost haunting this place, so I spent weeks working to capture it and convince it to tell me everything it knows about the place." Who that hasn't read the book is going to think of stuff like that? Some of the stuff is easy, like "I described the bottle as being made of glass, so it should be easy to smash," and it's easy to react to things in ways that just make sense, but they put that on the same creative level as making up a significant ritual or invention. Not to mention, the way they try to explain the clock system is awful, and it hardly does anything to give you the references you actually need to reasonably make them up on the spot. I get what they were trying to go for, and it's really cool in some ways, but as you can clearly see, I have a lot to say about it, and it's not exactly as glowingly positive as it was before reading.

As a person who is taking a course in archaeology I can totally see the logic that it would be more realistic to work with the Native stakeholders for the future of the artefacts recovered from the sites, however, THIS IS A VIDEO GAME THAT WAS BARELY GROUNDED IN REALITY TO BEGIN WITH!!! Why does everything have to be realistic, why can't i just enjoy my trophies from previous adventure on the mantle? Also does this mean that we're gonna have to get an uncharted game when Nathan does paperwork and meetings with the local native people about where the gold from El dorado is going to go? It's just so stupid.
That was the dumbest way to say "we want Lara to be more like Indiana Jones". I see Sweet Baby Inc fingerprints on this.
Instead of tomb raiding, she will be returning artifacts to where they were found from museums around the world. A librarian with guns...
This just in, Master Chief has decided to become a pacifist to the Covenant. He thinks it's entitled and mean for him to kill members of the Covenant just because they are from a different religion.

You actually think they even bothered to play the previous games?
Based on their description of the original games, they likely just looked up the character on Wikepedia instead so they wouldn't be "tainted" by the "pro-colonial" themes - or used whatever buzzwords would let them excuse making a TR game without the Tomb Raiding
We all remember the HUGE wave of colonialism after the first one came out. I remember being with my friends like "were gonna colonize today after school boys !"
It's a little known fact that Tomb Raider was first released during the Victorian Era as a guide for British soldiers.
Evil Hat is one the worst and most insufferable TTRPG makers out there. If Crystal Dynamics thought they were good fit for a Tomb Raider game, then it reflects really badly on CD themselves.
It's funny how they can't create an original work, only destroy existing ones.
tomb raider without raiding tombs is like super mario without the mario

Also... not surprised. This is Crystal Dynamics, the game studio that recently released that remastered TR collection with this cringe trigger warning popup that displays each time you run the game. Basically calling the OG developers of TR as racists LOL.
It wasn't even them that worked on the remasters. Aspyr was the developer and publisher of the remasters. All Crystal Dynamics did was put a stinky trigger warning that Nexus Mods wouldn't even let the player of a single player game disable.

In all the Tomb Raider games I played Lara never raided a tomb once. Mostly she is Indiana Jonesing it by following a bunch of bag guys and gunning them down. And then whatever treasure there is turns out to be a Doomsday device that destroys itself.
I'm convinced these studios are just laundering money at this point.
Yep, something super fishy is going on in mass entertainment. Who is actually buying this stuff?
They get funded if they have a high ESG score, DEI is part of ESG, so essentially they create games for little to no cost and get some profit out of it.

SMH. The world needs to snap tf out of this BS
This is why the UK was giga-based for stealing artifacts. The natives neither appreciate nor care to protect these intangible, irreplacable relics of their own culture and heritage.
My favorite one to point out is that the Rosetta Stone was TILING IN A MILITARY FORT before the French took it. Imagine if it had never been found.
They don't deserve their artifacts.
She's gonna do a native land acknowledgement before she raids the tombs, and then buys some carbon offset to prevent the natives from crying when they see the exhaust from her jet that she flies to all these tombs
So finders keepers is fine for squatting and petty theft, but not for tombs

I find it funny because if you seen the latest Tomb Raider games she does raid tombs but protects the natives from an evil corporation trying to steal their culture
Less tomb raiding? Reminds me of that PS2 tomb raider AoD with a very little tomb raiding, look how that turned out.
>erm.... Did you get that mummy's CONSENT before you just opened they/their sarcophagus?!
Mummy: 💀👍
People in the future are definitely looking at us RN through a book calling this one of the worst time for fictional media.
Must games will be forgoton
Even really good ones, i know its hard to imagine
But even big franchises wont last more than 100 years
Heck alot of games nowdays tend to die off not even a decade 😅
Either because copyright or just because they are shit
I doubt this event (gaming censorships, etc) will be significant in a larger scale
"We are remaking Sheep Raider, except this time Coyote doesn't steal sheeps and he will basically do nothing."
This is like if Netherealm said "Mortal Kombat has a lot of killing it so now they will just play rock paper scissors or tag or something to save earthrealm"
I don't want WW3 or a civil war to happen. But shit like this makes me change my mind momentarily.
Unfortunately the cry babies wouldn't be the ones in the trenches and even if they offered to fight you sure as shit wouldn't want these people in a trench next to you.
The other side of the world has traditional values at least, no woke bullshit whatsoever.
@@Mr-Sinister Western gaming industry gonna Atari themselves again and we go back to our saviors in the East.
It's genuinely confusing how a group of people with access to the internet and knowledge that previous games received heavy backlash after forcing politics into their games, all sat in a room and agreed that this would be a great idea and people would love it. How are these people so desperately out of touch?
They are see themselves as martyrs, who feed stoopid gamers with Greater Good even if they resist and eventually they will play woke shit because there will be no other games (because of that shotdowns of old games and erasing them from stores. That the genious plan, not considering indie games or non-Western games). As saints row reboot dev put it (its okay that we flopped, but we not pandered to bigots so its a (moral) win!!"
Man. Those folks are lucky they dont have to address Sid Meyer's Colonization (1994). The amount of triggering would be lethal.
New indie game opportunity: Mara Schafft Crypt Rapist
Imagine a Tomb Raider game taking place in a Lovecraftian temple or lost city. But NO, they prefer to focus creating non-existing problems in an already stablished franchise to fix issues that don't exist so they can justify their existence and feel good about trying to change the world...
Crystal Dynamics: Keep you mental issues out of the games you try to sell us. We play games to have fun, not to be lecture by a two face Karen. Why not create a new franchise? Why change an already stablished character?
At the end I will vote with my wallet.
Make good games and I will buy them, keep pushing this DEI garbage and you will not see a single penny from me again. That's how it works.
first they creating problems then they working trying to fix them but most funny thing they cant fix problems they creating damn game industry dying. We have only CDPR and Obsidian with many indie studies left
Fun fact: they are really do not appreciate some views of Howard Lovecraft too and even wrote an essay about how much they dont. But that did not stop them to use his creations.
@@zloybojok CDPR seems to also be focusing on ESG now, seeing one of their videos online that is something they were talking about.
A Lovecraftian Tomb Raider game would actually go HARD. Imagine Lara descending into the depths of an abandoned temple, translating glyphs depicting horrific, depraved rituals attempting to resurrect an Old God, slowly hallucinating unthinkable monstrosities and questioning reality the deeper and deeper she goes. Fuck man, that sounds SO COOL.
But nope, we get “anti-colonialist” tripe. I’m starting to become an ist against dyed-hair-people
They should just have lara croft be like james bond. There can be different laras throughout different time periods/settings and could do shit just like you said. Would be so cool. Too bad it will never happen
Now we know, Nothing is safe from the sensitivity police.
"At what point do we draw the line between stealing and archeology?"
- Trazyn The Infinite, the greatest Tomb Raider of them all
watch it cost like $150 dollars for the ultimate edition
Too cheap, the asking price for a premium should be 1000$.
It's for a board game. It has nothing to do with the Tomb Raider games or the dev team.
@@EcopiuM That's negligible.
This is similar to developers hate that HP Lovecraft cause he was racists, but still USES his intellectual property. Don't believe me, look it up. This is that same vibe.
Why make something from something you hate? They actively destroying something that has been established for ages. Shit's baffling to me.
@@EcopiuM Im pretty sure it being a board game won't necessarily stop them for making an overprice version if they really wanted too
@@Xport9 Your brain is smooth. You people want to be outraged by everything that it has utterly destroyed any levels of reasoning you brain would normally be capable of.
The only Tomb they are raiding is Lara's with this crap.
people tend forget not only colonists raided tombs...
"Tomb Raider": The act of being very dainty and careful with artifacts, knocking on the door of each tomb to be welcomed in first instead of raiding said tomb. /s
Indiana Jones: "That belongs in a museum!"
Panama Hat: "So do your Colonizer ways!"
Tomb respecters dont have quite the same feel to the original…
next up we get Rockstar saying "grand theft auto implies crimes so in our next game we will be going to a homeless shelter to volunteer"
It seems they went the opposite and banned cops n robbers.
The disclaimer in the Tomb Raider remastered already gives a clue how devs think about the series.
Ah yes I can't wait for pirate sims without any robbing, killing, or smuggling.
the real pirate sim is you pirating any games they make
*it's called Skull&Bones.*
They should just make her Tomb Returner. She should steal artifacts from a museum and give them back to the place it was found. Also, once the thing is back, have it end the world like it was suppose to and she was suppose to stop.
The British Museum isn't gonna like this idea lmao (the plot will probably involve them)
... you've just given me an idea for a story.
@@palladiamorsdeus 10% to me seems fair.
i believe in angel of darkness you actually steal artifacts from a museum
reminder that the devs hate lara and the franchise, in the 3rd (i think) they killed her off at the end without even telling the productor because they were tired of making sequels, if you think of the tomb raider devs, think about the "i'm tired boss" meme
Yoyoyo what if...what if we reverse raid the tombs. Like, instead of taking the artifacts out, now we take them from her mansion and put them back in. And and instead of boss fights, the ancient dormant entities that she disturbed on past incursions will now rebuke, but thank her, for returning the artifacts.
I hate this so much.
Like yea, the british stole a lot of old stuff and placed them in a museum but everyone forgets the most important part.
They also found it when no local was interested in their past. They rebuild and tried to learn from it. They placed these treasures of humanity in a save and stable place for everyone to see.
The british preserve what otherwise would be gone now.
Things that "nobody interested" is not gone, they exists exactly on their places waiting to be carefully researched, not barbarically retrieved with explosions and pickaxes as glorious Brits did back in the time. So no, they dont "saved" anything, actually destroyed much. But this was top archaeological metods of XIX century, and without that we wouldn't invent modern archeology that research things without blowing them up. So its inevitable step in the development of science branch, not worth that much of a praise though.
For a lot of that supposedly "stolen" stuff, the claim can be made Britain has more rights to it than the locals, for Britain was part of the Roman state for over 300 years, directly or indirectly contributing to its heritage, contrary to many of the current day "locals" with no connection to the past of the area they occupy.
@@AtticusKarpenter do you know how much stuff from pyramids was found laying idly in local houses, used for something like covering the pot? You don't. "Curse of the pyramid" was invented only when brits started to use explosives - to find at least something left after (gasp!) LOCAL RAIDERS selling stuff...
Throughout history, thieves all over the world have stolen old stuff from tombs and pyramids etc, british weren't the first ones or the last ones to do it. for some reason they get all the blame
Everything the yellow teeth stole would be in that countries own museum. But please keep making excuse for the country responsible for the slave trade and 65 countries having Independence Days.
Which part of the 'Tomb RAIDER' do they not understand?
What's next? Darth Vader puppy shelter?
Darth Vader Kindergarten.

If there was one way to kill a franchise by getting rid of the entire premise that made it what it was, this is it. R.I.P. Tomb Raider 1996-2024.
Laura Croft: Now sells her handmade crafts at the apothecary section of whole food markets and donates the proceeds to disabled mummies.
Not surprising after that warning message they put in the Tomb Raider Classic collection. They pretty much already showed their hand in completely rejecting what Tomb Raider as a series was.
