That was one of the best how-to videos on brakes, seals and bearings I've ever seen and I watch a TON of these videos! It's going in my how-to library for sure. Thank you!
Excellent video CT :) on Brake resivor jug new one on copper line before put rubber on did have flare then put clamp ring so won't leak and with black steel line flare too plus clamp ring too ! You can check and make sure didn't need to or should be ! Just so won't leak that why ask you said instructions or heard should be !
That leftover line you have is for the brass T to the drivers rear - it shouldn't have two consecutive rubber hoses. Noticed that car has a 65 only horn button, and there is no way a ball joint beam will physically fit on a kingpin chassis ( unless they changed the frame head). I say that it's a 66.
There should only be a total of two flexi brake hoses at the rear, not three. Both rear flexi hoses connect to a hard line going to the brass union. Won't cause any harm leaving it as is though.
Always replace everything that can kill you if it doesn’t work. Brakes and steering. If you incorrectly rewired your radio or your heater core you’re probably OK.
Missed the step of cleaning the backing plate! before transferring parts...Also the best parts in these kind of videos are cleaning the rust and bleeding brakes...make sure you have that in the upcoming videos defenitely gonna crack the views for sure!...we missed it in this video boss!
The beetle is a 65/66 model. The 1964 was the last of the "T" handle on the decklid, King Pins, upright quarter glass and also the smaller windows. Your beam looks right for the year (Link as opposed to King Pin) but the securing nuts may have been replaced with a allen key nut from a later model. Common modification and actually better in my view! Great build, keep up the good work!
@@bava67 absolutely and my mistake (brain switched off!). The car also has a wheel from a '67 1500cc beetle as well, replacement as a result of the accident?
Hi! This seems to be a start of another VW Beetle project! But I really would like to know what has become of the Beetle buildup project of last year! If everything had gone well, it should be finished by now. All the best!
I don't have a torque wrench, but I've got an Ugga Dugga. Lol! @CT you need to look into using Evaporust for those parts you wan to reuse. Super cheap game changer.
Only mistake I noticed was drivers side back brake hose install at around 23 min. You have 2 soft lines installed. It should be hard line from t-junction to brake hose holder and not second flex line. From holder in frame to to second holder in axle tube soft line and from there to wheel cylinder hard line again, like in passenger side. Also think that the car is not -64. 64 should have still smaller windows/thicker window posts. I think it's -66. This can be verified from VIN. if it's -64 it starts with 9 and is shorter than after -65. In 1965 VIN changed, then it will start with 115... third number indicates year model. 116 would be -66, 117 -67 and so on.
@@CTmoog Nice. The ball joint front beam came in 1966. So someone has changed the frame head. Because the torsion tubes are in different positions in King Pin axle and ball joint axle. They cannot be swiched unless you replace the the frame head.

@@bava67 I go to like 930 and 230 and they dont leak. get that seam laid over about as far as you can to 90 but not quite. to keep that seam from making the bottom stretch.
Thank you! =) The front bearings get packed with grease. The rear bearings get gear oil from the transmission. It travels down the axle and lubes the rear wheel bearings. I put a small amount of oil on them when I was reassembling so they have a little bit the get started. When I fill the transmission with gear oil to the correct level it will travel down the axle tubes to the bearings.
the reservoir line needs to have specific 5mm Brake hose or it will leak all the fluid out. They charge by the inch and it is not cheap. It is Blue or Green. with cloth on it.
The spindle nut is correct for the 64-65 year car does it have kingpins or ball joints holding the front wheel spindles on up to 66 it should be kingpins and after 67 ball joints
worried about brakes but trust your life to a Hobo Freight jack. Get some jackstands man
Hi CT, wonderful video. The old VW brakes are quite the design compared to disc brakes. Good thing you can still get the rebuild kits for these.
Looking forward to seeing any videos from this channel

Where is the progress on the '65? Do you think this is a better car??
The 65 beetle "Georgia" still needs some work. I'll be back on it soon. Stay tuned! both great cars!
I was not aware a ball joint beam would fit a link pin car.
The rubber seal at the master cylinder was supposed to go on the line before going being installed in the master cylinder

As a certified auto mechanic of 45 years it's scary to see you doing brake work as well as electrical work.
Just about anyone who has an old bug does their own work. Pretty simple stuff. Brakes anyway.
You should get the beam that go's with it 😮 find one in a junk yard or something
