Trying to Fix EVERY PlayStation ever! PS1, 2, 3, 4, & 5 - I bought a PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, and PS5 to see if I could fix them all. I found disc drive issues, a no power problem, HDMI port damage, and, of course, found plenty to clean. This is my first time attempting repairs on a PlayStation 1 or 2 so I hope you enjoy it.

Yessss, finally the old consoles too...
Would love more old console videos everybody else doesn't work on them like tronicsfix
@@shaynekatchmark810 Especially Ps3 FAT
@@Cesare565 yes ,especially Ps3 and xbox 360 with those famous problems 😁👍
can you please fix my marriage?
I wish I had those skills & qualifications
This is honestly pretty nice seeing the insides of every generation in your style of teardown and repair. Well done, Steve!
This was really fun to see all of the different consoles! I took apart my husband's old PS1 a few weeks ago and did a deep clean on it - it's the exact one you worked on and it was super satisfying to see how pristine it looked after all of the dirt and dust was cleaned out of it. It also worked perfectly when I tested it! Would you consider making a video on how to use multimeters? I bought one not too long ago, but I would love to see a guide on the different settings and how to test different components on a motherboard. I have figured out how to test batteries with it but that is about it 😁.
I second this!
It’s amazing how simple the og PS was and how much more complicated each one got.
In my opinion the most intense and most difficult to disassemble is the ps3 FAT.
the first ones especially (20gb/60gb)
@@iamwonderFil Maybe that's why in the video they gave him a super slim ps3😂
I'm surprised he didn't go with the FAT PS3 too.
I might have to fix some of those!
@@Tronicsfix You should try and do the Frankenstein mod to a BC ps3
Regarding capacitors, voltage rating is how much it CAN handle, so you want it to be equal to or greater than the original spec. In terms of the uF (capacitance), that is generally something you want to match, as this is what actually affects the circuit's behavior. So, in the PS2 power supply, it might be OK to bump it up, but I wouldn't do that by default on another given circuit unless you know what you are doing or someone else has already figured it out, as in this case.
Hope this helps anyone out there recapping their electronics!
As someone who used to manage gamestop, you wouldn't believe the people that never knew you had to manually set the PS3s video settings. Most likely what your seller for your ps3 had happened to them.
Same with the Wii u.
Great video as usual. I don't think I have ever seen anyone repair a PS1 before. Ever.
I think Odd Tinkering has a video where he refurbishes a junk PS1. There's no talking, just repairing stuff which can be quite relaxing.
LGR did a lens mechanism swap on one a long time ago as well, I think - possibly on his Blerbs channel.
I remember following Steve since MyMateVince first colab video. Ever since then ive been watching all your videos. Years after subscribing i started working on playstation consoles and various electronics. Once I had issue with ps 4 and couldnt find solution to my problem. I contacted Steve for advice but didnt expect response since all youtubers are super busy. Couple hours after, Steve replyed with advices which helped me woth the issue. Steve my man, Im so proud of your work and of you. Im glad Ive been part of this community for all these years and that your videos are still interesting since day i followed you. Stuff like that stays in your mind for long time and now I told my wife about you helping me out. Keep up the good work and never stop doing what you do becouse you are really good at it. Greetings from Bosnia and Herzegovina from your old fan ❤
I’ve refurbished a couple of PS1 consoles in the past, I also had to do research about faulty laser units. There were several common faults with these where the guide rails and cogs would need cleaning and regreasing and/or the motor would need replacing, I’ve had to do this on one laser module and another fault is where either the resistor would need to be adjusted so the discs could be read again or the laser itself would need replacing, hope this helps!
Love the generational repairs, great work mate
It always warms my heart to see these consoles get the love they deserve. Thanks Steve for always doing the best!
28:30 The point is that you fixed it. We learned so much from this channel, including how to trace a broken pad and repair the connection. Great job
0:09 Playstation 1
9:23 Playstation 2
20:10 Playstation 3
21:53 Playstation 4
24:58 Playstation 5
Cool 😎. I don’t think I’ve seen a board / power diagnosis & repair on the PS2.
So many memories with that old original form factor ❤
Yes!! 30 min of TronicsFix, love it!
The original ps2's design is still so impressive to me, the PSU and main board is like a PCB sandwich of sorts, very similar to what Series X is doing now.
Loved the little intro with the music
While replacing capacitors with a higher rated voltage is fine, a different capacitance may not be a good idea as it will change how that circuit works. In this case it might be fine though. You should get an ESR meter to check for bad capacitors as your meter might read the right value but its ESR might be too high.
Love that you’re also doing videos on the old consoles, hope we see more of that
“What a bonus” said so nonchalantly really got me. 😂
Love this video. Ahh yes. the PS1. My first console I attempted to mod. 🤣 I tried to mod it by soldering a mod chip, and accidentally soldered two or three pins together on the chip. Spend about an hour trying to heat it back up, using wick to remove, re-solder, and trying to make sure none of the pins were soldered together. It eventually worked. Ahh.. memories. 😂
Lovely to see older console teardowns. 👍
That was great to watch love to see all the old consoles as well
I really enjoyed this video. I got to see what every playstation looked like inside. ❤
Love watching you do some older retro consoles out there. Wouldn't mind seeing a fix on a N64 or dreamcast and doing a hdmi mod or something.
I’d really love the Dreamcast idea 💡.
Want to say there’s several good videos on here of people doing the N64, but I love ❤️ both of those consoles. I preordered both back in the day. N64 at ToysRus & the Dreamcast I had to do through the Sears catalog because of where I was living at the time.
Nice :D would love to see you on all nintendo consoles 😁
You're a true Superhero to all of us gamers! Thank you for another awesome video! 🎉👏🎆
Thank you for the comment and your support!
@@Tronicsfix you fix all of these consoles and electronics but where you sell it? Can I have the link
and do you sell them globally I would really appreciate it I want to get ps5 but its too expensive in my country india
@@Tronicsfix Just a heads up the pro tech link doesn't work.
Awesome! I would like to see more old consoles like super nintendo, sega genesis, gamecube, nintendo 64 etc
That's what i'm looking for. Good concept.
I still can't belive you never took a video about Xbox 360 at all.
Luv the videos.. just wish you would tell us more about your costs on the original items and parts then how much you can get for them like you did in your older videos.
Amazing concept Steve ! Can’t wait to see other brands too with the same idea
Nice job! 5/5 all nice and working!
I've had the Perfect Amount Of TronicsFix for my day nice video man keep up the awesome content
Nice repair marathon :) I only have opened my PS1, to replace that darn cd spindle on my console as well back in 2019. My PS1 is from 1999, SCPH-9002 C (Euro spec), bought it new back then.
I been waiting for this for a long time Steve! Woo-hoo!!
This one is super interesting!
Cheers form Italy 🇮🇹!
☺️ Love your channel and how you make the impossible fix into possible flex 💪😎
Brilliant vid Steve.
Nice i always learn something new when i watch ur videos
Hey TronicsFix, quick question. What is the temperature that you will keep your soldering iron and heat gun at? I feel like mine are always too hot when soldering.
Great video. Love the content bro
Appreciate it!
Nice repairs, Love the generations. PS1s have easy to replace laser mechanisms, true, but the new replacements are mostly junk. The spindle hub seems to break a lot and the replacement mechs are wobbly and noisy if they work at all. The laser mechs on those slim PSones were much better.
Ive been waiting for this one ❤❤❤❤
Best video I've seen yet i enjoy all your videos Steve mate I look forward to seeing your videos on a Friday makes my weekends lol I really want to see you pull apart that ps3 slim to see how dusty it is inside lol maybe that could be one you'll do through the week if you get time lol 😆
Fantastic to see you fix all 5 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
I enjoy working on systems. But, the older game systems was so much simpler. Made it for quick fix and quick resale. It's also a good way to help with stress. Atleast for me.
LOL i didn`t know about the Logo Feature.Thx😂👍
❤your stuff man looking for the next one 😊😊😊
Congratulations once more!!
I’ve been waiting for something like this
Do more of these!
So glad that the cleaned PlayStation worked out with a simple port swap. :D
Would love to see the same thing but for Xbox/Nintendo families
Nice video concept!
It was TronicsWifes idea
Man, I love your videos! Hugs from Brazil xD
I had the same problem with the ps1 I had years ago. I found that the height of the carrier on the motor shaft makes a difference of how it reads the Disk.
So I have one up on you here. I was given some PS1s to fix once. I did the metal skate mod where you glue some metal onto the surface of the skate. They used plastic which wears out on some versions of the PS1.
I will never understand how people break so many HDMI ports I've never broken one in my entire life
That´s Awesome, good job! :)
When you have a lot of hair and dust bunnies, I like to use some adhesive tape like the kind they use for masking off for painting and make a loop with it about the diameter of a tennis ball to use as a sticky lint and hair picker-upper.
You know, sort of like one of those cat hair and lint rollers but much cheaper as a one inch wide roll of the painter's adhesive tape is cheaper in a bulk roll.
I use the manila colored kind.
I do wonder why you don't use a smaller shopvac with one of those smaller ends with a brush on it to suck up all that dust.
I would be more efficient and keep the dust out of the air.
You could even buy smaller tubing and attach it to the main vacuum's hose with adhesive tape to get into smaller areas.
Great Show!
Nice Playstation repair video 🎮💙
That logo feature is so awesome
You should have mentioned that those caps are directional and must be installed with the stripe matching the symbol on the board. Or at least the same way as the pulled out one
Random question: Does that liquid metal bring the melting point of solder on components way down? It might be as useful as bismuth solders
I got some straight up PTSD from when you opened that PS2 lol exactly how I remember the insides of them hahaha
😁🤣🙄
I learn lots of things from this dude
I love how this channel progress with new things... Thats the reason Im following. I opened a lot of Ps1 and this felt so fresh.
The PS5 Dualsense controller does in fact work on a PS3 I actually just used my own Dualsense on my phat backwards compatible PS3 yesterday. What you have to do is hold down the PS button and create button at the same time to put the Dualsense in pairing mode and then go to the PS3 go to settings accessories and Bluetooth devices and then scan for new devices. Your PS5 controller should show up as a human input device. Click that and from there you should be good and your Dualsense should be connected to the PS3. Please note that on the Dualsense controller you will not be able to use the PS button as it will not be recognized by the PS3. For this function you will need a PS3 controller standing by to access your in-game dashboard menu.
Your channel inspired me so much thank you😇😇😇😇
Very cool. Waiting for an episode with all the Xboxes 😬
You mad scientist. What have you done!?!?!?! Cool, did not feel like working on spreadsheets right now anyways. Just gonna put myself on the ol' Do Not Disturb and enjoy this one.
Hey where do you sell your repair consoles? I like the ps4
Great game awesome video as usual love your videos I took computer networking and repair in votech
Great Video Steve
Thanks 👍
You just blew my mind about how you can twist the PS2 logo, so if you want it vertical! 🤯🤯🤯
Don't forget to test ps1 games on the ps2 , and ps3 , if they not Work, they are not functional ^^ , an test the ps2 in vertikal and horizontal position , Sometimes they play only in vertikal or horizontal position the games :D
I've repaired over 100ps2 its really often they play only in one Position the games
Love you're videos , learned so much from you thanks :)
You always tediously take the dust off but an air compressor outside is so much better. I actually use my air compressor to keep my working consoles clean.
Now the dust is in your lungs
Great work, when can we expect Part 2 where you fix PSP, PS Vita, PSVR and PSVR2? :)
Lol, that’s a good idea!
Hi! can you tell me where to get the micro soldering iron...? its very hard to get in my local stores because they dont understand what i need
I just got a Ps2 fat and a slim for dirt cheap!
Well the top part of the ps2 fat was broken so the guy selling gave a ps2 slim for free
Took it home fixed the top and fixed the power buttons and a few components and now its working flawlessly! Im just gonna use it on my car I guess 😅
We need more content on the old PlayStation consoles!
How hot does your air station get too? It seemed to drop those HDMI ports the moment you touch them?
That was awesome !!!!!!
On the PS1 this was a common issue. The black plastic breaking off of the spindle and laser issues. I never had issues playing games with the broken plastic on the spindles. I did have issues with skipping and turning the PS1 upside would let you play without issue for some odd reason. The one I had issues with skipping, I replaced the whole laser assembly from a PS1 with a bad mother board.
Repairs though the ages 😉 Great video
Nice work! would be fun if you did xbox aswell! :)
Great video! It’s interesting that a PS5 controller did not work with your PS3 cause it works with mine without a problem, doesn’t work with all games though.
What is usually break on the PS5? I saw one on eBay for 100. Owner claim it was dropped. Should I try repair myself?
That model of the ps1 was quite famous for the spindles breaking, all started with the small black parts breaking off it
Another great video ! ❤🎉😊😊😊
What do you enjoy the most during and after a repair? Repairing something you know and feeling in control or repairing something new and having the new adventure but greater risk of complete failure?
What temp is your hot air gun set for when you're doing things like this?
Kudos to fixing classics without ever opening them previously. There are some real gems on PS1. It's worth checking out!
Collecting all the console generation like infinity stone. Good job sir.
It did work with the audio video cables some people don't know the difference
Hey, what tv do u use for the PS5?, Od like to get a nie 4k ...yet with price belov 500$
Please make more videos fixing retro consoles!
another great class....
