- So you’re looking to step into a proper carbon road bike?
The bikes compared include the Canondale Supersix, Trek Emonda, Specialized Tarmac and Giant TCR. Well let’s see what the Big Four bike manufacturers have on offer for their entry level carbon road bikes in 2020.
The comparison will include the 2020 105 R7000 hydraulic disc offerings from each stable and we will be comparing the framesets and geometry, weights, build components and of course pricing.

found your channel when searching for a comparison between the caad13 and allez sprint, love your videos, subscribed! keep it up mate 💪
This is a great video. Really informative! Thank you for sharing
Thanks Jock. I'm trying to pull together a video covering some endurance bikes, maybe try a slightly different format as well
Very informative!!
Very informative. Subscribed!
Thanks Don
Thank's for the video, informative, clear and it helped with my purchase decision again thanks.
Great, mind me asking which bike you are purchasing?
@@melbournecyclingsegments7510 The Tarmac, liked the shape and it has a bit of everything not the best not the worst Thank you! Your sound makes all the difference you're very eloquent and clear!
@@josesegura2090 thanks and I agree the lines of the Tarmac look great, it's a beuatiful bike.
Nice video and great explanation. Would ove to see a head on review of aero bikes of European brands like Lapierre, Canyon,Look, etc.
Great video. Would love to see a similar one on the big 4 brands gravel bike ranges and maybe Canyon thrown in as a 5th option.
Couldn't agree more. Will be the next video, but summer training vlog also next. Stay tuned!!
Mate this is an awesome review.... Can you PLEASE PLEASE do a similar review with the High end Bikes also by the same brands?
Thanks for the video. Lots of research and work to prepare it. I have been riding a Giant Defy for 3 1/2 years. It provides a more relaxed ride and I have been pretty happy with it. If Inwere to replace it with one from the video would probably get the Trek.
Thanks Raiq, super happy you enjoyed the video. I might look at some endurance bikes for the next one.
Quick update.... New bike day is looming for me, it could be today!! Stay tuned for a full ride review as I will be taking the plunge and buying one of these four bikes. Which one will it be? Can you guess?? 🤔
Absolutely amazing video as always would you mind comparing the 105 Cannondale and trek emonda sl6 as the are at the same price point? if not thanks anyway.
Sure, but groupset aside everything in this video will be the same for the Cannondale and the Emonda. I've got an emonda sl5 rim brake, love it.
@@melbournecyclingsegments7510 Thanks! :)
Can we have an update on this for 2021?
Should add the Scott Addict Disc 20 . Great video
I didn't go entry level but I chose the Emonda SL7 Disc etap for my new bike. Absolutely love the bike. She's taken me up a couple of big climbs already and can put out a fairly decent sprint too.
Lots to like about the Emonda that's for sure... Especially with etap 😍😍❤️
@Melbourne Cycling Segments This video was made for me, looking at all 4 of these specific bikes minus the year and looking to purchase. Im not sure about the timing of purchasing one because of COVID though. Any advice? What would you do to go about buying a new gen brand new or buying one of these in the video without paying full price..?
Depends, sometimes new gen is just a different colour and the older models can be cheaper. Other times the new models really are new models. Like the new TCR and new Emonda models. But really it's all pretty marginal. Depends how much more they cost and if they are affordable for you or not
Great video. Depends on your video, Which is better for climbing? Thanks
I think they would all make good climbers, but I guess for climbing weight will be a major factor
Thnk you so much..it’s so interesting..finally I bought tcr adv 2 😅
But if possible, you can summarize the comparison result by table in the end of video (I have bad english) and make easier for me to understand 😬🙏🏾
That's a great idea. Thank you for the feedback
I personally prefer the looks of the tarmac. I ride an allez expert from 2012 and for gravel and touring a sequoia elite from 2017.
Still I am dreaming of a tarmac!
Agree, the Tarmac is a good looking bike. 😍😍
🔥
Cannondale supersix evo 2020 👍👍👍
Just purchased the Cannondale supersix evo Ultegra Di2 and that thing is sweet. I was shocked at how comfortable and fast that thing is, I'm over fifty and it is much more comfortable than my 2017 Cannondale synapse and that's supposed to be the comfort bike.
I've use 700x32 gravel tires on my supersix evo... and perfect
wow, that's some impressive clearances.
Tarmac SL4 Sport, 2019, no discs, 105 all over. Love it, disc brakes are expensive and overkill imho, unless you ride in the rain/snow, or bad traffic, which I don't.
I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately in 2020 there are very few rim brake options.
@@melbournecyclingsegments7510 Yes, it is definately a trend. Even if the prices and weight become leveled, disc maintenance is more expensive/time consuming. It might revert over time (if prices don't drop), as overengineering of bikes is also a thing.
Slažem se!
What is the body weight rating?
That's top secret!! 😂
Which brand wasn’t complicit in the largest doping scandal in cycling history? Which brand’s CEO made not-so-veiled threats to a cycling legend to make sure the facade stays hidden?
Trek has a dark history it sees no reason to be sorry for. Giant, 100%
U have made a little mistake. The red tarmac is not sport version and doesent have shimano 105 but tiagra and does not include dt swiss rims. Just so u know. Otherwise a great video.
same as me tcr and emonda
I have a TCR but would love all of them in garage.😀
Deep down I have this sneaking suspicion Giant might just make the best frames 🤔
I have to agree but that canondale ? WOW!
Melbourne Cycling Segments same opinion, I really like my propel adv2 2015 compared to the allez sprint 2016. Feels more responsive and yet smooth
Would be nice if you could have had the opportunity to ride them.
I bought a secondhand CAAD10 with a creaky BB30 (used as a crit pig). I replaced the shagged bearings and used Loctite 641 when pressing in new bearings and creaks haven't returned in 6 months of hard use. Regarding alternative bikes I think Merida bikes (in Australia at least) appear to be great value. The Scultura for all-rounder, and Reacto for all out aero bike for flying on the flats. They do make all of Specialized's bikes so they can't be that bad. Edit: I haven't ridden one though...
Bbinfinite bottom brackets on bb30. Try it
id go for domane
Supersix evo the beast 🥺🔥
BB86 is almost fuss less
Trek Émonda 🔥🔥
There's no excuse for it, Cannondale has just gotten lazy with their paint schemes. They had the best paint schemes in the 2000's. Trek is killin' it with the aesthetics on their bikes.
140mm is more than adequate for road disc.
Agree, a bit lighter too
Press fit bottom brackets creak period!
I think frame manufacturing tolerances are as much to blame and BB30 or PF30 are more susceptible. I believe the entry level tarmac actually uses a threaded BB.
You chose the two less aerodynamic bikes out there. Supersix and Tarmac are more expensive but just superior. Teammachine had to be included here.
Ummm, no they're all road bikes not aero bikes. Ok, a couple have some aero features but they ain't aero bikes
@@melbournecyclingsegments7510 agree but if you see the gains made they are quite substantial and worthwhile. The tarmac and new supersix are almost midway in terms of watts needed to sustain a speed on flats between pure aero bikes and lets say an emonda. Also there's something in a supersix that just gets the handling right. Yes BB30 BEWARE. But a Hambini or bbinfinite one piece fixes that too
Ronit Debnath I’ve done personal comparison tests between aero
Bikes and traditional bikes(Colnago C40) with same wheels and PM, etc. and literally no difference between them in speed.
@@tommyfreckmann6857 see the cycling weekly Velodrome test
Ronit Debnath yes I’ve seen them all. Still not comparable to outdoor riding. And go and watch the aero vs lightweight bike test. A speed difference of only .25 mph gain. Which that’s the same amount I’ve found between my aero wheels and climbing wheels.
What a bad video. Pictures shown just for 200ms. Only information provided that everyone can read from the website/press statements/commercials.
