    @Melbourne Cycling Segments This video was made for me, looking at all 4 of these specific bikes minus the year and looking to purchase. Im not sure about the timing of purchasing one because of COVID though. Any advice? What would you do to go about buying a new gen brand new or buying one of these in the video without paying full price..?

    • @melbournecyclingsegments7510
      @melbournecyclingsegments7510  Před 4 lety

      Depends, sometimes new gen is just a different colour and the older models can be cheaper. Other times the new models really are new models. Like the new TCR and new Emonda models. But really it's all pretty marginal. Depends how much more they cost and if they are affordable for you or not

    Tarmac SL4 Sport, 2019, no discs, 105 all over. Love it, disc brakes are expensive and overkill imho, unless you ride in the rain/snow, or bad traffic, which I don't.

      @@melbournecyclingsegments7510 Yes, it is definately a trend. Even if the prices and weight become leveled, disc maintenance is more expensive/time consuming. It might revert over time (if prices don't drop), as overengineering of bikes is also a thing.

    I bought a secondhand CAAD10 with a creaky BB30 (used as a crit pig). I replaced the shagged bearings and used Loctite 641 when pressing in new bearings and creaks haven't returned in 6 months of hard use. Regarding alternative bikes I think Merida bikes (in Australia at least) appear to be great value. The Scultura for all-rounder, and Reacto for all out aero bike for flying on the flats. They do make all of Specialized's bikes so they can't be that bad. Edit: I haven't ridden one though...

    There's no excuse for it, Cannondale has just gotten lazy with their paint schemes. They had the best paint schemes in the 2000's. Trek is killin' it with the aesthetics on their bikes.

      I think frame manufacturing tolerances are as much to blame and BB30 or PF30 are more susceptible. I believe the entry level tarmac actually uses a threaded BB.

  • @ronitdebnath
    @ronitdebnath Před 4 lety +1

    You chose the two less aerodynamic bikes out there. Supersix and Tarmac are more expensive but just superior. Teammachine had to be included here.

    • @melbournecyclingsegments7510
      @melbournecyclingsegments7510  Před 4 lety

      Ummm, no they're all road bikes not aero bikes. Ok, a couple have some aero features but they ain't aero bikes

    • @ronitdebnath
      @ronitdebnath Před 4 lety

      @@melbournecyclingsegments7510 agree but if you see the gains made they are quite substantial and worthwhile. The tarmac and new supersix are almost midway in terms of watts needed to sustain a speed on flats between pure aero bikes and lets say an emonda. Also there's something in a supersix that just gets the handling right. Yes BB30 BEWARE. But a Hambini or bbinfinite one piece fixes that too
