At least you could build up to this level be doing progressively bigger jumps (or starting higher up each time). I'm always amazed by the jumps/stunts that involve somersaults (X-games etc) because you can't start off gradually by doing just half a somersault - it's all or nothing.

Back in 2018 I backpacked through Europe and stopped in Innsbruck and actually got to witness a ski jumper practice. It was the dead of summer and it caught me so off guard, but it was amazing to see.
I remember coming here once. There was a cemetery right in plain view of the jumpers. Not sure if it was intended that way, but it would definitely deter me from ever doing this.
I wouldn't be surprised if for a lot of them the first time was an involuntary large drop off an unseen ledge while skiing/snowboarding down a mountain.

That crash off the bottom right side off the ramp just before they go flying will always stick in my mind. I watched Wide World of Sports all the time, all year. That and Curt Gowdy with "the American Sportsman" I'm 66 now.
That is freakin crazy! But that feeling you get when your are not connected to this earth is incredible. I like hitting jumps on my mountain bike but I don't get anywhere near the amount of hang time.

So komplett ohne ist das nicht, sitz erstmal da oben, das sieht live nochma ganz anders aus, selbst ne ganz kleine Schanze flößt genug Respekt ein beim ersten Mal.

Vielleicht ist da meine persönliche Hemmschwelle auch nicht so groß, dass ich mich direkt davor distanzieren würde, weil das auch wieder nur meine eigene Empfindung ist und das natürlich jeder anders sehen kann. Aber ich denke, dass es doch schon für einige umsetzbar ist. Vielleicht brauch man mehr Zeit dafür bis man zur großen Schanze sich wagt, aber mit einer gewissen angesammelten Erfahrung baut man da auch irgendwann ein gewisses Selbstbewusstsein dafür auf. Was ich glaube damit sagen will ist, dass er diesen Sprung nicht ohne Erfahrung und auch nicht ohne Vorbereitung gemacht hat und da vieles einkalkuliert ist, damit das Risiko möglichst gering bleibt. Ein gewisses Rest-Risiko wird es immer geben und bestimmt muss man da auch ein gutes Maß an Überwindungswillen haben, aber ich glaube die Eier aus Stahl brauch man nicht. Zumindest schätze ich diese Aktivität noch so ein, dass die in einem sehr kalkulierbaren Rahmen durch geführt werden kann. Oder vielleicht haben wir auch nur eine unterschiedliche Vorstellung von Eiern aus Stahl, das kann natürlich auch sein. :D

Two things I did not know 1. There are tracks down the slope that help keep the skier straight and 2. That you can ski jump like on grass! Wow, that looks like so much fun. Only on TV it looks like you are in the air longer before you land. Nice video.
That big ol' lean back at the end after landing looks so satisfying, I bet it feels great. I bet falling sucks here, though. Snow landings are likely packed hard, but I bet there's less friction when snow is rubbing against skinsuit at high speed 😢🚑
