    Chris, don't go to a chiropractor. It's a muscle thing. You've got to train those muscles around the weakness in your back to not go into spam when the nerve is twinged. I suffer with exactly the same. I should do the exercises given to me by a physio all the time but I'm crap for things like that. When I start to feel the slightest sign it's going to go I do the exercises now. It seems to work and I haven't had a problem for over a year. There's three exercises I do and I do three sets of 12 reps. 1. On all 4s, arch your back up and then into the opposite so an arch downwards. That's 1 rep. 2. Lay with your back on the floor, knees together, keep your back straight whilst you move your knees together from one side to the other. Try to touch your knees on the ground. That's 1 rep. 3. Flat on your back. Arch your hips up whilst tensing your core muscles, ie as though you're pulling your bollocks up (!) and back down. That's 1 rep. Hope that makes sense and helps!!! Good luck!

    Literally at the Dr Sat night with my back going into Spasms after a twinge on Thursday…., can’t describe how painful it was. On muscle relaxant and anti inflammatory medication since as the spasms were happening regularly for three days…. Hopefully you feel better soon

    Bugger of a thing to happen, I’ve had lower sore back, I found regular swimming pool lengths help, plus wearing a wide leather belt helped a bit, kind of holds things in place, & one doc told me to do back stretches, downward dog type stretch, I do 5 of those in the morning warm up routine before a run & have way less back problems, good luck Chris

    Sorry about your back Chris! Take it slow and give those muscles and tendons a chance to heal! At least you're keeping busy! Keep pushing safely my friend!

    Mate, sorry to hear this news. Hope that you get hooked up with a chiro soon. As we get older, the wear and tear on the body come through, so you need a good team around you to keep operating at a level which you find acceptable. Wishing you a speedy recovery.     This happened to me for the 1st time back in February.. Never felt pain like.. Had a bit of pain for a few days after a park run then sneezed one morning and went down like i had been shot... Horrible worse pain ever ... Just found a good brake from running and plenty of pain killers sorted me out... Luckily its not happened again since! Hope you get well soon bud 👍

    Sorry this happend Chris. I one thing I know is things happen for a reason even when you might not know why. Yes, it sucks but you will come back even stronger than before. I'm happy you like your new job.

    My back went in April, lower area suddenly in the office. Possibly due to sitting down more plus a bike purchase. I managed to get back running after around a week (hanging on monkey bars at the park helped stretch it out) but then caught covid. Since then it’s affected my glutes and just take each week as it comes. It’s worse one side. My gut feel is that I need to incorporate decent strength work, I stretch but need to increase volume. Hang in there…

    Sorry to hear this. Weird thing is something almost exactly the same has happened to me during paintball, back is now in agony… let’s hope we can both get back to it soon

      Ohhhhh , yep it hurts like hell!!!! Get yourself a heating belt or pad or even a hot water bottle!! People may poo-poo this BUT when it got so bad I couldn't even move for weeks without screaming, not even roll over in bed, I finally got prescribed a little valium which relaxed the muscles, stopped that spasming reaction and allowed it to heal very quickly indeed, within days!!! It was a godsend!!!

    Bad backs are a real nuisance Chris. I have suffered with mine for many years. I have learnt that as soon as I feel the slightest twinge I recover quicker if I use a back support belt and take anti-inflammatories. The worst episodes were picking up a bucket full of horse poo!😂 and the latest and worst, picking up a big heavy dog. That one left me unable to walk or sit and was when I realised I needed to take more are when my back is talking to me.I hope you recover quickly and get back to running again.

    Hi Chris, really sorry to hear this. I hurt my back getting off the sofa a few years back and it was bad for over 2 yrs. I saw so many different people I was starting to lose hope until a work colleague recommended Mel Henry who is a sports physio and is based in Hunston, Chichester. He sorted me out in a few sessions.     Very sorry for you. Back problems are nasty. If the problem is in your lower back, then shove an ice pack down the back of your trousers (not joking) to freeze that area and hopefully stop the spasm. Also regular cat stretches when on all fours (hands and knees).

      Since this video I managed to get to a chiropractor which has helped. Apparently I’ve got a slight curve to my spine. Has given me stretches and hopefully I’ll be back run in a week or so 🤞 Thanks for the tips

    Ay ay ay, yep those back spasms f***ing hurt!!!!! I got an electric heating belt which I laid on to sleep, or even a hot water bottle... that helped enormously!! So glad you love your job though!!

      @@ThatRunningGuy Make sure to squeeze out the air before you close the lid and don't over fill it so you can actually lie on it where you have pain (I assume in the small of your back?) Careful though as eventually they burst when you lie on them too much!

    Oh that’s not good, I get how disappointed you must feel. I have been bed ridden for the last 8 days with the flu and missed 2 races I had. I also have the GSR next week, not sure if I’ll be fit enough to do that either.
    Fingers crossed you sort your back out in time, I’m sure there will be someone on here who can help with a stretch that may help. Hopefully we both can make the GSR next week 🤞🏻

I was in The Running Shop last week in Southampton and thought oh you work in this chain now haha, the misses got a pair of Finnish road shoes from them, can’t recall the name as never heard of them before. Anyway, speedy recovery and hope you make the GSR
