    This is actually a pretty clear differentiation. If you're replacing your driver then the Callaway is the better club. If you're looking for more of a utility club at the top end of the bag then it's the Burner.

    Recently added the Burner 11.5* to the bag in place of my TSi-2 driver. About 10-15 yards less distance on well hit shots but I don't hit my driver that well to start. I hit twice as much fairways with the mini-driver and my scores have dropped. FWIW, I'm a bogey golfer.

    Marty Jertsen (PING VP of Fitting) talked about mini drivers on the PING Proving Grounds podcast a few times, and also in the WITB they posted on the PING YT channel. PING did some data analysis and found that players that drove the ball 300 yards or farther tended to use the 3-wood off the tee 90+ percent of the time. In this case, it makes a lot of sense to move to a mini, but also once you go mini driver and realize you're never hitting it off the deck, it makes sense to just carry a second driver like Finau did recently. Jertsen does the same - 12 degrees of loft and 2 or so inches shorter - so easy to hit. I started to do this and love the setup. Big driver goes 280, small driver goes 260.

    • @DavesRabbitHole
      @DavesRabbitHole Před dnem +1

      I think Phil Mickelson did this for one of his early Masters wins, or certainly one of his early Masters appearances. He had a slightly shorter driver in the bag along with his regular driver. His second driver was set up specifically to fade for him (I think), which was something he struggled with, I guess that’s a draw shape for a right handed player. I don’t know if Augusta is set up for more right to left tee shots?

    As a user of the TM mini burner as a 3 wood replacement I have 2 observations here. 1. Ball was too far forward, hit it more like a 3 wood hitting down instead, they perform better. 2. When you crank the TM mini down 2 degrees you actually open the club face 4 degrees also. People need to be aware of that as the TM and Callaway adapters are completely different. Callaway adapter can stay square. The TM performed brilliantly off the deck in this video, killed it.

    I have an 11.5 brnr and part of me got it for nostalgia because i had an old burner driver back in the day but part of me got it because i was looking for help at the top of the bag. The 11.5 degree one is really a rocketship. I didnt even consider the 13.5 because i was really looking for a driver replacement. For whatever reason with my swing i square the club up a lot more with this and it still goes 265 or so. I haven't found success hitting it off the deck, but i love it as a tee club. Its let me go mini, 4 wood, 19° 3h, 4i at the top and im sure the more i play with it the better ill score.

I watched Rory's Video hitting the Burner and it was incredible to watch. Lazer straight over n over again. For the sake of boasting who is further i would take an all around better club and shot selection options so TM wins for me... I also feel Rick is an AB-TM - Anything But - Taylor Made.

I can hit the darn thing pretty straight, not far, those days are history, but straightish, definitely in the short grass. I am more a plinker, course management player. Old man golfers we are. Our little group still can post decent scores, just not a very exciting sight to see. Dink down the middle, chip on, one or two put, next hole. Hey Rick. A very valid comparison. But, I feel for a good player like you, who can also drive it well, the mini-drivers are always just going to be a club which you can hit well, goes shorter than the driver, and doesn't quite offer the versatility of a fairway wood.
    For the elite, like Tommy Fleetwood who carries a min-driver, they are so good that they can use it as a juiced 3-wood for par 5s, or tight tee shots.
    For me there is only one fundamental question that need answering for the average golfer who cannot keep the driver on the planet, and maybe only carries a 3/5 wood max is, is this going to offer 10-20 yards more than their 3/5 wood, with more accuracy than their efforts with driver. If so, then I absolutely see a place for these clubs for the masses. 10-20 yards, somewhat straight, can mean 1-2 clubs less on approach. I haven't really seen anyone do this type of comparison.

    The looks of the clubs is truly personal opinion. I actually prefer the look of the Taylor Made. Does it affect performance, maybe but who really knows. I have to like what I see when I look down.

    The Callaway struggled off the deck which is a super important part as it will likely be the replacement for your 3 wood. The BRNR is the better club

    Well, it’s no surprise that you hit better the club that you like the most, isn’t it. If you have such a huge bias before even doing the comparative trial, it’s gonna definitely affect it. I think it’s very bold and refreshing for tailor-made to do a throwback retro look.

  • @DavesRabbitHole
    @DavesRabbitHole Před dnem

    If forced I’d probably go for the Callaway. I’d be using it off the tee only. The TM seems more versatile but I would never choose to hit it off the fairway, I never go longer than 5 wood off the fairway. That said, in reality I’ll stick with my driver and 5 wood.

  • @Thepopguy2
    @Thepopguy2 Před 2 dny

    I have last years burner mini best decision I’ve made will never take it out of bag I struggle a lot less with it off the tee since a smaller face equals a bad shot not going as far left or right as a driver off the deck longer than a 3 wood makes more par 5s reachable in 2, the callaway is for most golfers a club just to be used off a tee being too hard to hit off deck the Brnr is the better all rounder and better value for money

    I just ordered the Callaway last week. Supposed to be here tomorrow. They told me because I asked and they quoted the specs to me saying it would go up 2 degrees and down 2 degrees. So why does yours only go down one?? I did order the 11.5. 13.5 is way too much loft for me.

  • @paulbiscione8168
    @paulbiscione8168 Před dnem

    Honestly, as much fun as the video was, it isn’t a fair test regardless.
    The BRNR is only 304cc while the Calloway is 340…big difference. It’s like saying you’re comparing a standard driver to the 340cc mini.
    Obviously the Calloway will go a touch further as it is bigger.
    I actually own the BRNR mini in an 11.5. It’s an outright beast. I typically outdrive my buddies who have regular size drivers.

    What's the point of a mini driver? I feel like I hit my 3 wood better because the head is smaller. Maybe I need to look into this?

  • @rafaelmartinvannostrand2084

    I'm a newbie in golf, in fact I'm just playing par 3 courses (I only hit irons so far). Would it make sense to start with a mini driver of those instead of going with a driver on the big course?

    • @lawbinson
      @lawbinson Před 2 dny +1

      Possibly. A lot of the trouble most newer players run into with the Driver is that it's the only club you hit up on. Everything else, you hit neutral or down on.
      With a mini driver, you can hit it more neutral like a fairway wood. So, there's less to get used to as a newer player.
