      Not being a lawyer, it’s difficult to see how TM could be successful in the lawsuit. There are so many clubs out there that look like they were copied from other ones. Also, just because they are similar, they are not the same. The insert material is sure to be different, no speed slot, chrome vs brushed, tungsten weight positioning is slightly different, etc. You can certainly make an argument either way.
      The problem I have with the costs of equipment, is that it’s eventually going to hurt access to the game. Just 10 years ago, green fees, equipment, etc, were a whole lot more accessible. Today, overall costs of playing is moving this game back to an elite game. I doubt that’s what the businesses in golf really want. Golf will end up becoming an elite-only game again, like it was years ago. Not a good thing. I can’t even find a public course that costs less than $50 a round anymore. How are low or medium income kids going to get access to the game?

    I paid £850 for brand new custom fit 2023 P790's from a pro shop, if you shop around you'll get them much cheaper than your standard rip off golf websites like American Golf etc. The quality is far nicer, it's like comparing the Kirkland putter (which I really like) to a Scotty Cameron, yes they 'look' similar, but look closer and the quality is different. The P790's have a more premium finish, better standard grips (upgrading these would likely cost £100 extra for the set), better shafts, plus the custom fit options are great.
    If it's me and my budget is so tight I'm looking at Kirkland clubs, I would be buying used, £480 would get you amazing used irons, a nice set of 2021 P790's etc. I've seen great condition used 2023 P770's sell for £550 (bought some myself and swapped them out for my 90's)
    The isuse with these less premium products isnt usually how they perform brand new in a vaccum, it's how they perform for different golfers with different needs, swing speeds, grips etc. It's also about how they last, golfers keep irons for years, then they get bought used and played by someone else, how are the kirklands looking in 5-10 years?

    Just put the p770’s in my bag and absolutely love them… more true lofts and easier to dial in my numbers then the p790’s which are very strong lofted and long. Dispersion is much better with the p770’s I am still one who believes you get what you pay for but great review on a good budget set of irons.

      I just picked up the wedges and so far I really like them. They’re balanced very well, not too heavy in the clubhead but also not too light, the ball really pops off the face and I feel very confident hitting them.

  • @07GTStallion
    @07GTStallion Před 13 dny

    To be fair. I know they are similar... but I would make the argument that you would get similar results from many different club manufacturers. So what I take away from this is play the brands you like. If you like playing quality clubs and you don't care about brands. Play Costco clubs, or Tacoma's, or Stix, etc. I personally really liked PXG's (for really no particular reason other than I thought they looked cool) but didn't want to pay $1400. So I picked up a second hand set of lightly used last years model for $600. I'm very happy with them.

  • @user-oh2hs6jh5x
    @user-oh2hs6jh5x Před 12 dny

    The conclusions that I would make from your little experiment were that the clubs are very similar, and differences seem to be due to the differences in loft. Clubs that are stronger lofted (P790 PW, 7 iron, KSig. 4 iron) tended to go a little further, launch a little lower, and spin a little less. Just what you would expect. The Costco clubs look a great value as long as the shaft fits you.

  • @one2manyhobbies956

    It seems to me you could buy the Kirklands, have the heads pulled and get fitted for the shafts that fit your game, have them purchased/installed and still save money over the Taylor Mades. That said...the TM's do look much better in the brushed look over the chrome.

    Always been a Mizuno player and still have a set of their irons however 18 months sgo I decided to go for a fitting and cant believe i picked the P790's with stiff shaft 1degree upright and midsize grips with three layers of tape underneath. I have to say the Mizuno irons for me are a little more forgiving but centre strikes the Taylormade's are so buttery smooth and feel great. The Kirkland clubs represent incredible value but they come in a one size fits all and im not sold on the shiny finish however, they appear to be a carbon copy which could lamd them in trouble though I would be surprised if Costco hadnt checked this with their legal team beforerelease for sale.

    Basically physics is physics - you have a hard head hitting a small soft ball. The mass is the same, the lofts are much the same, the shaft length and dynamics are much the same, and the USGA R&A rules are there!, and in the end physics wins ..... but golfers still buy for 3 main reasons:
    (1) want to buy
    (2) need to buy
    (3) love to buy
    Golf brands including ours - Q Golf - all tell stories that are plausible and we golfers want a reason to buy 😁

    I just think its impressive that some out of the box clubs are performing so close to the custom fit clubs. I would be curious if you had the costco clubs re-shafted to your fit, how the numbers may change in comparison to the p790's. Would they actually pull ahead of the p790 if properly fit? Obviously the added cost of refitting them is unrealistic to their intended purpose, but would still be really interesting to see how their club heads fare on an apples to apples test.

    Good review. Proving that you dont need to spend a fortune on clubs to get a great set. TM did the R and D on these clubs years ago. This is the 4th generation with these clubs. You could argue that this has paid off for them. They can't keep trading on the fact they spent money developing them. They've certainly had a return on the investment. They could start making them more affordable now.
