- Hurricane Barbara viciously strikes Springfield but, by pure chance, the house of Ned Flanders is the only one destroyed. As a result, he begins to lose his faith in both God and the townspeople around him.

Gotta love how it initially gives you a subtle clue that things will go wrong when Ned has to force the door open when he enters the house.
especially when they say how they lack knowledge and resources to craft a house.

I love how perfectly innocent this starts out, and then degenerates disastrously. Awesome writers.
I like how this bit feels like a deconstruction of the ending to "When Flanders Failed". It's the same idea of the entire town getting together to help Ned Flanders out of a tough time with the same sappy overtone as last time. But instead of it ending there with everything working out, things suddenly go south and we get this complete tonal shift when Ned completely loses it.
Come on, they tried as hard as they could.
Building a whole house is still a good gesture tho

I played this on vhs for my grandpa Victor Lundquist while he was still alive.
He was a jack of all trades handyman who built several houses in his life.
A very stoic old-school man who rarely smiled and never laughed.
He started chuckling at the toilet part, scoffed at the load bearing poster, laughing at the electricity, and really lost it when Flanders shut the tiny door on Barney's face.
Showing old men the new good stuff is always a good time.
I was once talking with the 72yo old neighbor about movies and stuff, and I mentioned I liked anime.
After explaining him what it was, he was all like "I don't like cartoons" "those are for kids" etc.
So I dared him to watch one episode of one anime. He grumbles about not liking kids stuff.
The following exchange happens:
Me: do you like wild west movies?
Him: Yes, I have a collection of Clint Eastwood on vhs.
Me: Do you like Bruce Lee movies?
Him: I went to watch one in the cinema decades ago. It was very good.
Me: Do you like mafia and similar movies like Scarface or Dirty Harry
Him: Yes, I have them too on vhs.
Me: Okay. Then lets watch one episode of an anime and you tell me if you like it or not.
Him: I don't know what it has to do with the old classics but alright. Show me.
I showed him the first episode of Cowboy Bebop, opening, episode, and ending.
Me: So?
Him: Well, what are you waiting for? Put the next episode.
He fell in love with it.
I moved to a new place a few weeks later and haven't seen him in years

To be fair Frank Grimes was a petty, jealous loser, Homer did try honestly to be his friend more than once, while Grimes was always talking behind Homer's back, Homer may be an idiot, but he has a big heart ❤️ Grimes instead planned to ridiculize Homer in front of the whole Plant

Deleted scene. There were a few in this episode, like when he snapped after this. He called Milhouse "four-eyes" after chewing out Moe on his way to insulting Homer.
Thank the idiot syndicators who have yet to figure out that showing these older shows full length with fewer ads (which you can charge MORE for) will net you MORE money than cutting them down to meet today's show to ad ratio.
Syndicated episodes cut some parts out for allotted time .... this is why that electric scene seems unfamiliar
There are lots of 5 second scenes in the simpsons I have only seen once when they first aired and never saw again because they were edited out for time when they were re-run, it really motivates me to just buy all the old episodes on dvd so i can finally watch them uncut

Moral of the story is that even if something had a lot of effort, heart and love put into it, doesn't make it worthwhile. A house built with absolutely no love but with all the skill needed trumps any house that love built. It's great if you have good intentions, but good intentions alone pave a road to hell.

If I remember correctly, Ned didn't get insurance because he viewed it as a form of gambling.
