  • In an edition of "Kent's People", Kent Brockman tells the story of Frank Grimes, a man who "had to struggle for everything he got in life." After seeing the show, Springfield Nuclear Power Plant owner Mr. Burns is so touched that he asks Smithers to hire Grimes as his Executive Vice President.

    1) implies he already fell in-love with a planet that looks just like his. So much that he completely transitions his adversarial attitude.
    2) calling him "young man" implies that he doesn't make any age distinctions in that range, even not between children and adults.
    3) calling him "young man" implies that he doesn't know who homer is yet again XD

    I watched this episode when it aired and the interesting thing about coming back to revisit it over time you realize how your own perception changes. At first Frank’s zany actions are comedic, then you empathize with him, but eventually you realize that he’s let bitterness really consume him to the point where he’s being adversarial to Homer, who’s tried being nothing but friendly to him.
    In a sense Lenny and Carl’s support of Homer is like a mirror image of Grimes. Lenny and Carl even talk about how they’re credentialed (as Frank is) while Homer isn’t, but that doesn’t stop them from being friends.

    • @frankwest5388
      @frankwest5388 Před rokem +95

      while Grimes is right that Homer did sort of fall upwarts all his life, Grimes ignored the real reason to why.
      Which is that Homer is nice and likeable.
      People want Homer in their lives since he makes it better and wants to be everyones friend.
      So, they want good things to happen to him.
      While Grimes is all about work.
      He has no friends, because he is too goal focused to let anyone in and get close to him.
      Of course no one will give him a promotion, he is an ass to everyone.

      Everyone hated him and not Homer.

Yelling out all the things we wanted to improve but weren't allowed to in front of the boss. There was no warning about it. He was fine and then he wasn't. Obviously, he was fired on the spot. Didn't even take his stuff. The rest of us got a telling about procedures and why they are the way they are and why we won't be changing them.

    @1:39. I agree with Lenny, "Homer beat there brains out". On the surface Martin's Nuclear Plant is the most innovative and it appears he deserved it. But remember your dealing with Mr. Burns he lacks vision and doesn't see anything wrong with the current plant. So Homer gave Mr. Burns what he wanted, a copy of the current plant with some minor modifications. Trust me you'll encounter people like this in the real world, who lack innovation and depth then you have to deliver a bad product which they think is great, but you know much better (I'm a Software Engineer).

Instead he tried to prove a point that went nowhere and reacted badly to it.
    Worst thing was that Homer was genuinely trying to be friends with him or at least make some peace with Grimes after pissing him off. So...Grimes ended up causing his own demise. You feel bad for the guy being an unlucky son of a bitch but he was growing spiteful towards Homer who really wasn't trying to be a dick and it ends badly.
