Every time I hear the song he plays; it makes me cry because it’s true… we all want to be seen but don’t know how to be seen, nor how to ask, for most of us it’s fear based.

The most powerful content in this video is toward the end… when he shares the story of the woman who hid under a sink for 11 days. From there all of his teachings flourish into a beautiful picture of what it is to be human

Marshall Rosenberg has used this way of communicating to work in extreme situations of violence with great success. What is happening to our democracy in the USA today?
The continuation of using domination language is creating a society where very few people are getting their needs met. How many killings and school shootings are going to happen before we wake up? Hope is available and will require learning and practice. I am ready.

My professor, posted this video, and I got so much from it. I was taught so many lessons how communicate effectively. This has change my whole thought process on being honest, have a clear request by telling a person my feeling. The question that got me was how does this person contribute to my well being? I Thank my Professor MARY KIRK, and Mr. Marshal Rosenberg for making the vision of nonviolent communication clear.

I appreciate how grounded and applicable his approach is. Most of my exposure of nonviolent communication has portrayed the subject as a far-away human ideal that we should reach, but maybe only a select few can (insert culturally-formed conjectures of human nature here). It's nice to be able to walk away from a lecture feeling hopeful AND having new communicative tools to employ. I'm happy that my professor sent this video!

I saw another of his videos, a 3 hour workshop in San Francisco. Everything was easy to understand. When I was ready to apply it, I was hopelessly lost, always getting triggered by my friend's words and replying like the most vile creature you ever saw. But that in itself was an eye opener because before I didn't see how badly I was reacting and behaving. This is now a few years later, when I'm writing this. I am only marginally better than before. But I work at this every day.

My only problem is he thinks behaviours are taught to us by society. But in actual fact its those behaviours be it hierarchy or leader follower are inate and have developed over millions of years. This is where I believe he is being political and making a critical statement that is quite shallow.

Babies and youngsters before "education" do not do leader following, hierarchy, obedience, good or bad, punishment or reward to influence behavior. Nor "primitive" societies.
Hierarchy, good or bad, obedience, etc, are taught by culture and society since 8,000 years when people stopped being nomadic and began establishing land propriety. That's logic and that effectively contributes to stability of such a society. But, that impairs pursue of happiness.

I disagree. This is simply proved by the fact that in some countries like Malaysia for instance, there are no words "to be" for labelling of people. OJ Harvey (1998) went around the world studying languages and the ones that use judgement and labelling words for others are the most violent . Governments and powerful people honed out societies to keep us under control as if all the people flourished they would (they believe) no longer have a monopoly on all the power and wealth.
