Bomb Cyclone Aftermath & Historic West Swell - Santa Cruz January 2023

  • Clips from around Santa Cruz and San Mateo counties on January 4th and 5th. An atmospheric river (pineapple express) hit Northern California during the afternoon and evening of the 4th and a historic westerly swell ensued on the 5th, causing widespread road closures, coastal erosion and flooding.

    I grew up here. West Side Santa Cruz near Garfield Park. So much has changed since the last time I visited, and now the water has reclaimed so much of west cliff, I’m in awe. I hope you and your loved ones are all safe after this storm. Thanks for sharing.

      We are safe! Lots of damage on the coast but could’ve been so much worse. I saw on the news that they might not even bother repairing the road damage west cliff drive. Hard to imagine!
