    Great experiment. I have always found 72V 40 Amp controllers do the job with plenty of power to spare. Always begin with a full suspension and build away. I agree one motor is plenty but two are better for climbing especially living in the NW Hilly area.

      @@maximumchargeEV Those are my kind of trails on the Rip Racer. Luckily we have a river valley through our city with seeming less endless trails. Some gravel 2 wide, paved, shared pathways and no shortage of single track. It’s 180 feet from the river to the top of the banks and no shortage of places to ride the hills. Lastly 19 designated shared pathway bridges for river crossings. I’m not bragging just feel lucky. Its winter the trails are snow packed not bad but deadly hidden ice lays waiting you. Best to have studs, I don’t. Looks like you’ve got nice dry conditions. When the leaves are gone you get a whole different perspective.

    Eventually one of the E-bike OEMs is going to make a comparator circuit where it monitors the speed and rate of acceleration of the two wheels to prevent the tendency of the front wheel to break traction, IMO this will be a game changer for 2wd bikes.

    you dont have to use two displays and two throttles. It does require cutting and soldering/twisting wires together to get the controllers to share one display and throttle tho. Dual Motor electric scooters are just a pair of controllers that normally would have to be run by their own throttle and display each if no modifications to wiring were made to make them share a display and throttle.

    • @maximumchargeEV
      @maximumchargeEV  Před 6 měsíci

      you do have to use two displays since one display cant communicate with separate controllers (unless you want the throttle to be identical for each motor which I dont). On that note I actually prefer two throttles because it gives you way more control. I understand the want for simplifying all of this but in my case the two throttles are great. I'll find a better way to put the second screen somewhere hidden.

    Great vid, you do make some fantastic builds my friend, although I think there's a bit too much stuff on the handlebars (for my liking) but I guess there's not really much you can do about all the extra equipment required to do a dual motor build.
    Once the controllers & wiring are all covered up it's going to look fantastic. Already looks very neatly done.
    5 seconds for 0-30 is very impressive. Also, good thinking with the idea of trying to have as much weight over the handlebars, must help a lot with keeping the front wheel firmly pinned to the ground and maximising traction. (...yeah, I know about my above comment, the weight thing makes more sense now - bad me 😅).
    2,400w & 40amps ='s a $#!tload of all wheel drive fun 😂 very nice

    Very good review of disadvantages. You probably have slightly more torque on this than 7.2kw rear hub motor. Wheelies is just as much a problem as front wheel spinout. QS motor regen is a huge advantage though. Stock wired freedom is a good ebike, and it would be the lower priced dual motor 20x4 ebikes that would outperform it on torque, and same top speed, that would have a performance/value advantage.
    For people who don't need 4000w+, which is by far most people imo. Dual motor ebikes with 1 throttle, front traction control, and pas response for both is better than your frankenbike, even if they don't have your power.

    • @maximumchargeEV

  • @golden6625
    @golden6625 Před měsícem +1

    The new wired freedom is having a wobble due to the added rear weight of extra battery. Could you do a wobble test on yours with some rear weight on back rack. Citizencycle thinks added weight of front motor might balance this wobble out.

    • @maximumchargeEV

    I saw the channel Citizen Cycle and he rigged up his e-bike with dual motors using his second front motor with a thumb throttle only. He too was concerned with cornering. Having throttle only eliminated the potential of forgetting and being on a slippery surface. The Throttle only method is a much easier install. I figured I'd just throw this out there.

      However, a 1500W motor will likely have a higher top speed.
      While a 750W motor will have less torque than the 1500W one, it will not be half the torque. So, two 750W motors will have more torque than one 1500W motor.
      WRT speed, a dual motor bike will only go as fast as the fastest motor, not a combination of the two.
      Dual 750W or Single 1500W is both 1500W. But, when not needed, one of the 750W motors can be turned of. Thus running only 750W.
      Two 750W motors should give the most power against a resisting force (acceleration and hill climbing).

    Nice Vid AssMan! Why didn't you build the front motor by itself and run it independently with its own battery like what Citizen did? Would that be a better set up? I think it's good to have a front motor just for insurance purposes...in case your rear motor crashes...you have a backup motor.

    56lbs.. The weight of my 50+ mph bike that actually is a bike I could easily pedal home if the power died. 4000w+, full suspension enduro that takes me anywhere. There’s better ways to build a discreet ebike…Do your research and anyone can do it!

    A second motor? Well something needs to power your future A/C and heater addons... 🤣 If a goldwing can have it why not the wired? I just wonder when you'll have to resort to water cooling and heating just for the sake of the batteries.

    If your just a dry pavement biker then AWD is not for you. Unless you live in snowy conditions deep sand or in the mountains then AWD is the bike for you. You can take an AWD bike places no other vehicles can go like driving down a skiddoo trail.

    I heard you mention wheelies in the video and you seem to be the type to understand something like that so I have to ask; What is the importance of doing wheelies?! What purpose does it have other than having everyone around you say “look at that idiot, he’s gonna get himself killed!”. It’s puzzling like the whole Stanley cup thing. First time I saw it I was confused thinking “does it make bacon?!”. I mean if it did that then I could see the purpose behind the whole craze. I see people doing wheelies the same way. It’s the stupidest thing in stupid thing history. If you get e-bikes just to do wheelies, you deserve to have the cops give you tickets every day for existing.

      "The peacock's tail is hence described as a wasteful or costly fitness signal (Zahavi, 1975). In the human case, several cultural behaviors such as humor, music, art, and altruism have been hypothesized to have evolved precisely like the peacock's tail, as fitness indicators for a courtship function (Miller, 2000)."
