Music video by Bucks Fizz performing Heart Of Stone. (C) 1988 SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT (UK) Limited #BucksFizz #HeartOfStone #Vevo #Pop #VevoOfficial #OfficialMusicVideo
You know, Bucks Fizz is often used a punchline for jokes about 80's pop but this song (along with a large number of their singles) show that they were actually an outstanding band with great writers and producers behind them. They deserve far more credit than they get.
Funny story - I'm an American Bucks Fizz fan, and on a trip to England in 1990, one of the first CDs I bought was a best of Bucks Fizz collection. Not even close to available in the States back in those pre-Internet days. I had never heard "Heart of Stone" at all, and had not yet listened to my new CD. I was walking through the streets of London listening to a London radio station through my Walkman when an amazing song came on the radio that I'd never heard before. Instantly loved it, didn't know who it was, until the disc jockey came on and said in his British accent, drawing the name out, "Shaaa-uhh!". Wow! I was excited. The song was called "Heart of Stone". I didn't have the slightest idea that the original was on a CD sitting back in my London hotel room! In fact, I didn't discover that until I got back home to America! I heard the song a couple more times while in England, liked it more and more. When I got home and played my Bucks Fizz CD for the first time, I was stunned and delighted to hear the song done by them. And in a reversal of the usual "you always like the version you hear first the best", i liked Bucks Fizz's better! Part of that was the arrangement, especially on the chorus, which to me, especially with the lead guitar lines, brought out the fresh pop catchiness of the chorus much better. I played the song for my girlfriend, and told her that this was the original of Cher's new song. As soon as Bobby's vocal started, she exclaimed, "My God! He sounds _just like Cher_ !" I'd never thought of it that way until she said it. But she was right. And I don't think Andy Hill "gave" the song to Cher, He didn't produce it and had nothing to do with her recording it. I think someone else in the world heard Bucks Fizz and thought the same thing my gf thought, "My God! Sounds just like Cher! Maybe she should hear this and decide if she wants to do it!" And she did. That's my theory, anyway. Love both versions, but as I said I give the edge to Bucks Fizz.
Bobby Gee sounds NOTHING like Cher!! That's an insult to Bobby!! His vocals MADE this song... Just a pity it went nowhere in the charts for them, but Cher had a hit with it 🙄
Incredible song, only recently found out Bucks Fizz sang this before Cher! As someone who has lived and loved this song as a Cher song, I have to say Bucks Fizz (with amazing Bobby Gee vocals) deserved big success with this song.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this song! I remember buying Bucks Fizz's and Cher's versions back in the day. They're both great. But Bucks Fizz just about edge it for me. Bucks Fizz are a much under-rated group who recorded many great songs. But the stations that play 80's music always forget them. Probably because they're not considered 'cool'. Crazy.
Has been my favorite Cher Song for many years now, and, I am glad to have discovered the original version in the age of CZcams. Agree with all the others who have said that this version deserved to be a bigger hit in the UK, and, I wish that this version had been released by the US as well. Also, Cher's Version also should have charted higher in the States.
I'm glad in the age of CZcams I was introduced to the original version of the song. It has been my favorite Cher song since it came out my senior year in college at Appalachian State University in Boone North Carolina USA.
+kevin allcock Did you know they're touring currently, Kevin? Search Paradise Regained Tour for dates, not many left now though I don't think. Cheryl, Jay, Mike and Bobby McVay who was in Sweet Dreams, our 1983 Eurovision entry.
hold on a minute. Cheryl baker is amazing. Cannot wait for her to be back at Indigo. I actually met her twin daughters last year and wow must her daughters be the most amazing teenagers iv ever met. what absolutely amazing daughters they were. what a great night it was when they came to indigo but my god, they were the two loveliest daughters id ever met in my life and blew me away as to how amazing they were because of probably how very supportive they were. but how i have to deal with it all but they are entitled to much of god knows what is beyond me!!!!
@@makipizon He was arguably the most talented member in the group with the most versatile vocal range, not taking anything away from Cheryl, Mike or Jay but Bobby was clearly the driving force of the group, could have easily launched a solo career, he didn't need Bucks Fizz after a while.
Bucks Fizz recorded 'Heart Of Stone' along with 'Young Hearts' & 'Here's Looking At You' for a 6th studio album in 1988 but it was never completed they instead released a compilation album titled 'The Story So Far'.
nisabahrim definitely listen to Cher’s version. it’s beautiful, and it gave the title to her 1989 album which featured Just Like Jesse James and If I Could Turn Back Time
Wow, so there is a ghost somewhere in this video? "The mansion was owned by Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees who claimed that his house was haunted by the ghost of a gardener who enjoys playing pranks on the Gibb family. As a reference to this, a gardener was fleetingly seen in some shots"
Can't believe I am only hearing the Bucks Fizz Version for the 1st time.Have to admit that I do prefer Cher's version of the song though.Shame it wasn't a bigger hit in the U.K.
I didn't know Cher actually covered this one. I had heard the name "Bucks Fizz", but had no idea this was originally written for them. I have to say; stripped of the grandiose arrangement that characterized Cher's version (one I will always love, by the way), it brings out the hitherto unheard melodies from all four singers. All in all, a great job.
Shane Bailey There’s a nice stripped back acoustic version on the Platinum Collection box set, with the are you ready and get the money ad libs during the headline verses. Plus a version with Cheryl on lead from their 30th anniversary Up Until Now compilation, and they recorded a kind of country style version as OBF too, on their Fame and Fortune album. They’re all on CZcams somewhere if you want a listen.
Didn't know Cher actually covered it; I thought her version was perfect, and still do. But this original is in a different ballpark, given its slick, tight focus. I do like it.
Love it. Just a great pop song. I'm sure most folk now would think that Bucks Fizz covered the Cher track, not the other way round! Both versions very good because of the actual song.
Heart of Stone, Young Hearts & Here's Looking At You were 3 songs recorded for what meant to be Bucks Fizz's 6th studio album in 1988 but they never finished the album.
Krásna verzia piesne Heart Of Stone, ktorým sa Bucks Fizz vrátili do rebríčka v UK. V lete 1986 uzatvorili zmluvu so spoločnosťou Polydor a nahrali pieseň čiastočne spievanú v swahilčine New Beginning(Mamba Seyra), ktorá vrátila skupinu do TOP 10 a v lete 1986 skončila na 8.m. V roku 1988 sa vrátili k spoločnosti RCA a nahrali tento svoj posledný hit.
the last song before they finished, was only 11 when this came out,but i do remember it.not their best song by far,but they had come a hell of a long way by then, survived a terrible coach crash and had 3 number ones in the process.britains abba in my book!
Heart Of Stone, Young Hearts & Here's Looking At You were recorded in 1988 for a 6th studio album but they only completed 3 songs and abandoned plans for a 6th album this was their final single and the B-Side was 'Here's Looking At You'.
A mistake, because those three tracks are quite good; don't know if it was the label behind that or the pressures within the group that drove that decision.
I seem to remember they got in The Guiness world record book with this one for being the quickest recorded song from the recording studio to actually being printed as a record and played live on tv in the broom cupboard on BBC1 by Phillip Schofield . Anyone else remember this?
It was Andy Crane, but yeah. There’s a few vids up of them performing the track in the Record Breakers studio, but it would be nice to see the film report of the recording process again.
I bought this song in 88 - And I remember hearing it on radio 1 a few times. Sadly bucks fizz/the fizz had gone out of fashion by then[Great song though] Just like Abba had before them.
One of the most criminally under-rated songs ever.
Couldn't agree more! Should have been a hit for Bucks Fizz as should many of their other great songs.
Totally agree but that plastic drag queens version gets airplay.
please come to Indigo at The O2 Next year where I am putting them on! They are absolutely brilliant!!!!
The Fizz were fabulous at Indigo at the O2 last March. I can't wait for this year's gig on 28th June!
totally agree

Rodney Hrvatin The curse of Eurovision.
Never even heard of BF let alone their being used as a punch line. In any case I like both versions
@@ednabutler2622 You must be American.
Unfortunately 'Making Your Mind Up', in my view one of their weakest songs, is also their best known.
One of my top two favourite BF songs. New Beginning being the other one. Love them both

You got to say buck fizz had some class songs
Very much so yes maybe one or two were over produced but they were more than worthy successors to Abba for the next few years
How can this song have had so few views and likes? It is absolutely brilliant.
One of my favourites
Ig people know Chers version better and that is more popular
Can't believe this fantastic song, only got to no 50 in the UK charts.Criminal!
And it didn't even make the charts on Billboard Hot 100 here in the 🇺🇸, Cher's version did at #20!

A superb example of Bucks Fizz's remarkable gift for bringing out the best in a high drama lyrical setting. Magnificent.
Look at Cheryl and Bobby by the fireplace, they have a genuine affection/connection, which is nice to see. It is sad what happened later.
I'm afraid they didn't have a genuine connection at all. That's called acting. Cheryl was only ever close to Mike and still is.
this for me is bucks fizz best song not to have gotten into top 40 should have been top 10
What a fantastic song!!!!
this is my dad who commented on this who unfortunately died this yar but he knew a good song and by god this is a good song. xxxx
Bucks Fizz! Heck I love the name, and their music! Great band, beautiful ladies 🤩 great voices! Love em!
Incredible song and big Shelley Preston fan
This was one of the (rather last Bucks Fizz) songs that got away. Still cant understand why this didn't hit the top 40.
everyone should have a huge fireplace to dance in front of :) classic understated vocals loved it then and love it now
I adore this song! This brings back some memories. ❤️
This song is beautiful ,l love the video too.❤️

Best version imo
Great song
People not knowing Bucks Fizz released this before Cher it will blow their minds that they also first recorded What’s Love Got To Do With It.
Haven't heard this in ages. Had several Bucks Fizz albums on Cassette when I was younger. Think I players them until they warped :-)
I love cher version too such an amazing song
Great in their day and sometimes it's best to leave it there, enough said
This is by far the best (and original) version. Much as I like Cher, her version can't hold a candle next to this.
swietny videoclip oraz super piosenka oraz wspanialy zespol bucks fizz
Bottom line ........Whether you prefer this version or Cher's it's just a great bit of songwriting.

Bobby G should of been bigger than he was, I saw him singing on a cruise in 2004
This was their last original song, and definitely a fitting finale for this band.
Love this song x

I love their songs and video’s my all time favourite group. X
Amazing you never hear bobby gee theses days .good singer and writer if songs .never got the push he deserved as a solo artist

I love bucks fizz track heart made of stone and I hear talk are my favourite tracks.❤it
Had this been put out under a non-Bucks Fizz name, I suspect it may have become a sizeable hit back in the day.
Probably true like it did for Cher, Andy Hill was loyal to them so they got the song first.
I did not know Bucks Fizz did this....only knew the Cher version
