- Carrie Hope-Fletcher and Shan Ako perform a mix of the heart wrenching I Dreamed A Dream and On My Own from Les Miserables at BBC Radio 2's Last Night of the Proms in Hyde Park.
Carrie Hope Fletcher is absolutely marvelous. The reason that she had been repeatedly cast as Eponine and will be repeatedly cast as Fantine is that she brings a dimension to her Les Miserables roles that reflect her sincere love and profound understanding of one of the greatest musicals of all time. Also, she has one of the most beautiful and powerful voices in musical theatre.
Yes it’s been announced that’s she will be playing fantine at the Sondheim theatre till July 2020
Yes - the dimension she brings is guaranteed ticket sales.
Her and Rachelle Ann Go will be playing Fantine when the show returns couldn’t have casted any more talented ladies

Only just now seeing your comment, but for this particular performance they were asked to riff on this I can’t remember exactly why and Carrie panicked in rehearsals cause she doesn’t normally riff

Carrie Hope Fletcher is just a wonder. A gift to musical theatre. There's two voices in Les Mis that have something extra magical and unworldly about them. I mean they're all perfection, but Carrie and Alfie Boe are in a different dimension.
And, in my opinion anyway, Norm Lewis as Javert, Samantha Barks as Eponine is pretty damn good too. Oh and Robert Madge as Gavroche, and lastly Ramin Karimloo as Enjolras! I wish I could make my perfect Les Mis and see it live! To be honest I'd just love to see it live full stop. Someday maybe, someday.... But man, the Norm Lewis vs Alfie Boe rendition of The Confrontation is phenomenal. What a treat it would ever be to see THAT live. I'd be in heaven!
This arrangement is so strange but magical to seen knowing Carrie has played both roles in her career.
I think that Shan and Carrie must be my favourite eponine/fantine duo yet! Amazing voices, great acting and those riffs were 😍 xx

Mr Blue Sky yeah, it’s super weird that I’m happy to see diversity and representation in theater. Especially with one of my fav characters that I had previously only seen cast one way. Super weird of me to be excited about that as a POC who didn’t grow up feeling represented in a profession that I love.

Two amazing singers and a fantastic performance (I'd have preferred to just hear the two songs one after another, but this was a clever arrangement)
I went to the musical les miserables in London last December honestly I felt she wasnt feeling the music she didnt make me feel anything Shan Ako as Eponine was amazing her voice her energy almost cried. Both of them have wonderful voices.
There was no need to make it pop sounding with all those riffs, unnecessery... without those, beautiful! They have lovely voices.

I think they were actually asked to make it that way, Carrie said in one of her videos that it was kinda new for her. And how it’s never really been allowed for les mis before.

she wasn’t trying to sing louder than her...sometimes technical things go wrong and Carrie also did most of the belting in the ending so she was bound to be louder and on top of the microphone issue, you can hear that Shan is a lot quieter than Carrie even when she sings ‘on her own’👀 so if you didn’t like it don’t say anything 👁👄👁
