Zachary Levi in Tangled
Tom Ellis on Lucifer
James Marsters in the episode Once More, with Feeling of Buffy
Anna Kendrick in Pitch Perfect
Anna Kendrick - Pitch Perfect
Jamie Dornan - Barb and Star
Gwenyth Paltrow - Glee
Nicole Kidman -
Neil Patrick Harris
I can’t believe you forgot Renee Zellweger, Nicole Kidman.. they were there in your clip!
Ewan McGregor did an amazing job singing in Moulin Rouge ❤
True!!!
I was like: Sh!t, Obi-Wan got pipes
I truly fell in love with him after seeing that performance. And a fan of the song, too. Surprisingly, the same song cemented my appreciation for Taron Egerton.
Nicole Kidman held her own in that movie, but Ewan ❤
One of my all-time favourites!
HELL Yes!
Sissy Spacek in Coal Miner's Daughter...who knew that Carrie could sing like that?
And she won the Oscar for her role in that as well!
Beats winning prom queen, that's for damn sure!!!
To go with number 1, I was surprised at John C. Reilly when he sang Mr. Cellophane in Chicago. Yes, I know he sang in Walk Hard, but Chicago came out 5 years before that. Just surprised he didn't make the list, even at the low end.
And he allegedly gave the Chicago directors several equally riveting versions of Mr Cellophane in completely different, fully fleshed-out tones. He was a bane of their existence for the best reason ever: "How... how do we CHOOSE?! He gave EIGHT. DIFFERENT. PERFECT. TAKES!"
What about Renee Zellweger and Nicole Kidman?
Yep was gonna say that too.
Me too! I also think the order was totally wrong
Ewan McGregor blew me away in Moulin Rouge, the tone of his voice is so crisp and clear. I became a bit obsessed with his cover of My Song after seeing the film cause I love the way his voice sounds in it. I was 11 when the movie came out but didn’t see it until I was 13 and I didn’t know it was a cover of Elton John’s song at the time 🫣 only found out cause my dad heard me listening to it and he started singing along to it too and I was like, “how do you know this??” and he told me it was originally by Elton John 😅
💗
I sat front row at Rent. I was shocked to see Doogie Howser up there singing his heart out. Who knew? Neil Patrick Harris is an amazing singer and performer.
For those who do not know, "Postcards From The Edge" is based on the book of the same name written by the late great Carrie Fisher!
Zachary Levi in Tangled. Incredible voice!
1970's Jim Nabors aka Gomer Pyle had an amazing voice
Oh yes, he really did! I couldn't believe my ears the first time I heard his beautiful singing voice. It was a huge contrast to his Gomer Pyle voice. It was a deep bass and of operatic quality. Just amazing.
And Robin Williams , we only knew him as Comedian since Mork and Mindy, the singing in Aladdin was a shocking performance
I saw Ewan McGregor on stage as sky masterson in guys and dolls and 2005. Absolutely phenomenal!!!!! He’s a total star.
Bruce Willis in "Moonlighting ", and Sissy SpaceX in "Coal Miner's Daughter ". ❤❤❤
Oh God yes the episode of atomic Shakespeare where he's singing Good lovin. A little bit of singing in Hudson Hawk as well
Before I saw Pitch Perfect, I had only seen Anna Kendrick in Up in the Air and Scott Pilgrim. When she sang Cups, I was blown away.
yes, several I can name.
First of all, Johnny Depp in ''Sweeney Todd,'' ringing in his fantastic singing talent and of course guitar skills, still active today in his band Hollywood Vampires and of course with the wonderful late Jeff Beck on their joint 2022 tour across Europe and US.
Then Jensen Ackles, having released to this day 2 albums together with Steve Carlson under the band name Radio Company. During conventions he regularly delights audiences with his cover songs, delicious!
Furthermore Robert Downey jr, who also released a delightful album ''The Futurist,'' and also sang in other movies.
Not to forget Kevin Costner, and Bruce Willis, both touring extendedly with their bands respectively.
Those 5 with a tremendous singing talent, paired with musical instrumental skills are my personal Top 5. Excellent!
You missed out Matt Bomer, Michael C Hall, Zachary Levi, Jensen Ackles, Jake Gyllenhaal, Seth MacFarlane and Eric McCormack in this list
Add Diane Keaton and Goldie Hawn from First Wives Club. Kim Basinger in The Marrying Man.
What has Seth McFarlane acted in?
@@Kairii-Kylie Sing. He plaid Mike
Yes to the first 4!!!! Love them all so much
Looks like we need a Part 2.
Meryl Streep is a ridiculously good actress and a ridiculously talented singer with a strong, powerful voice! Such a multi talented queen!
when you grow up on Devil Loves Prada so you're already impressed
and then someone puts on Into the Woods and you're like, "HOLY SHIT SHE'S LITERALLY FLAWLESS"
@@Laeiryn 😂 I grew up on Mamma Mia and sorta grew up on Into The Woods so I pretty much only knew her from musicals
Here's a few others I can think of where actors were actually great singers:
.Jason Segel in The Muppets (2011) (he really brought comedy when he co-sang "LIfe's A Happy Song" with Amy Adams and Walter, but he brought emotion to the Oscar-winning song "Man or Muppet" along with Walter)
.Robin Williams in Aladdin (1992) (he must've sang in movies before Aladdin, but he really brought different music chops to Friend Like Me, and Prince Ali)
.Angela Lansbury in Beauty and the Beast (1991) (We've heard Lansbury singing on films, TV, and Broadway before but she really killed Mrs Potts singing the title song of Beauty and the Beast)
.John C. Reilly in Chicago (2002)
.Austin Butler in Elvis (2022)
Angela Lansbury was on Broadway in Sweeney Todd way before Beauty And the Beast.
Ryan Gosling - the live Oscars performance was WOW
Zendaya - I did not know she could sing until TGS because I never watched her on Disney.
The Cast of Buffy
Jensen Ackles
Nicole Kidman
Chris Hemsworth
i would count ryan out because he already had singing credits wayyyyy before that... i mean, he's a mickey mouse club alum alongside britney and jt
Ewan McGregor has such a beautiful and powerful voice so it’s crazy to me that there was a time when people didn’t know he was such a good singer
Glenn Close is a lyrical soprano. You can see it in Meeting Venus (1991).
David Carradine was a songwriter, recorded albums, and played his own versions of Woody Guthrie's songs in the biopic Bound For Glory (1976).
Glenn Close also did Sunset Boulevard if I'm not mistaken? marvelous
I saw Glenn perform on Broadway as Charity Barnum in the amazing B'way show Barnum. She was delightful!
It's terribly sad that there doesn't seem to be a recording of her performance as Luisa in The Fantasticks. I would love to hear that.
I've seen Hugh Jackman live and he's a fantastic singer ♥
Thank you for the update, MsMojo..!! Also, Matthew Broderick sings "Till There Was You" well in a movie called "The Music Man (2003)" with Kristin Chenoweth.
Matthew also sang a bit in Godzilla, before landing a role in the musical The Producers.
Zooey Deschanel in Elf!
Zooey Deschanel was a singer before she was an actor.
I was going to mention her too!! She's so talented and so pretty!! 😍 ❤🎵👏
I didnt realize 7ntil many movies later, after P.S. I Love You that Gerard Butler was the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera. Im surprised he wasn't on here with his co-star. Great chops!
You could add Val Kilmer in Top Secret and Justine Bateman and Julia Roberts in Satisfaction. And what about the cast of Buffy the Vampire Slayer for the singing episode they did? That was one heck of an episode. The entire cast sang. Johnny Depp in Cry Baby, Corpse Bride, and Sweeney Todd.
Johnny didn’t sing in Cry Baby.
I've got a few more names to add..........
Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Mark Strong, Tom Hiddleston, Renee Zellweger, Nicole Kidman, Kevin Kline and Kenneth Brannagh.
One of my favourite songs/videos is Kidman and Robbie Williams
Tom Hiddleston in the very underated movie about Hank Williams.
Timothee Chalamet in Wonka. He has such an amazing vocal ability and range. Someone those songs couldn't have been easy to sing. "A world of your own" comes to mind.
Rick Moranis in Little Shop of Horrors
He was the perfect Seymour, and he performed it as well as any stage actor could have. One of my favorite performances.
I hope that Emma Stone gets cast in another musical soon. She really impressed me with her musical chops in "Easy A", in her big elaborate musical number, for no particular reason.
I could see her as Geri Halliwell in a Spice Girls biopic because Emma has been on record for how much of a big fan she is of the Spice Girls, hence why she changed her name from Emily to Emma after Emma Bunton. They're kind of similar: Both are badasses and ambitious with insecurities with Emma battling anxiety since she was a kid and Geri battling bulimia and cancer.
Neil Patrick Harris! Who knew Doogie Houser could sing, Gorgeously? At least that is how I felt when I heard him sing the Beautiful tenor notes in "No one's gonna harm you" from the revival of Sweeny Todd. And, later, some people were shocked to see Barney KILL IT in an early battle on Glee singing "Dream On".
Andrew Garfield really should have won the Oscar for "Tick, Tick, Boom", in my opinion. His performance and voice really blew me away.
Be silent, pal. Will Smith won, even though he ruined his reputation for slapping Chris Rock onstage.
@@acmewasi799that moment alone should've given the committee a last-minute deliberation to give him the award cause it's all messed up now
I totally agree!!!!
What did he even win *for*? 😅@@acmewasi799
@dlmbs makes no sense he won before the slap hell he won before the nomination most likely
The headline of this video mystifies me. Most movie actors have stage experience, voice classes, as well as acting classes. There are some actors who can't carry a tune in a bucket, but most have the training. I know that I've had plenty of classes, and kind of had to relearn after my voice changed in puberty to a baritone.
Dwayne Johnson took months of voice classes to learn to sing before recording his part in Moana, and yes, he did great work there. That's impressive.
Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix both went through a lot of vocal training in preparation for Walk the Line, and they were fantastic.
Also, James Cagney and Christopher Walken, both known as movie tough guys, started out as song-n-dance men on stage. Cagney puts on full display in the movie Yankee Doodle Dandy, the film adaptation of George M, a stage musical that I have worked on.
I think “old movie” knowledge is lost on Ms Mojo. I love Yankee Doodle Dandy. The Rock sand in the Game Plan too.
JENSEN ACKLES, DAMNIT.
Sissy Spacek did her own vocals in “Coal Miner’s Daughter”
Grease 2 is my favorite guilty pleasure film
I actually like it better than the 1st one ❤
"Who's that Guy?" scene is my all-time favorite.
@@pattischult9401 I like the Reproduction number
And Cooper was performing alongside Lady Gaga, not an easy thing to do!
I'd include Neil Patrick Harris, too. :)
Especially after highlighting Hugh Jackman as host of the Tonys. Hugh is great, but NPH is the best host. Plus Dr. Horrible!!
@@mamajinx oh, if we're going Dr. Horrible, add Nathan Fillion to the list, who knew Mal Reynolds could sing?
@Persewna4 good catch!!
John C Reiley in Chicago
Scarlett and Jeremy are both on the list; maybe they should do a Black Widow/Hawkeye album.
Dwayne Johnson sang some Elvis in the movie The Game Plan back in 2007. Seems like everyone always forgets that.
Exactly 👍 I didn’t realise The Game plan is such underrated movie.
@@sockygaldamez9492 It really is!
Hugh Grant, Drew Barrymore, Gwyneth Paltrow, Gerald Butler and Patrick Wilson.
Robert Downey Jr sang earlier in the 1993 movie Heart and Souls. When I hear the Star Spangled Banner in my head, it's his version from that film.
I know everyone knows that Meryl Streep can sing, repeatedly. For me, it was Amazing Grace from Silkwood. It still makes me cry every time. Also, It's Me from Death Becomes Her could work too.
I came here to mention Silkwood too. Her version of Amazing Grace was good.
Val Kilmer in his portrayal of Jim Morrison!! He practically channeled Morrison. Not only in his vocals but his mannerisms were spot on! It was almost spooky. In fact the actual members of the Doors said that they couldn't tell if it was Val or Jim singing on certain songs. Pretty high praise. Also I would mention Gwyneth Paltrow and Zooey Deschanel. 😊
Taron Egerton I thought that would’ve been Sing not Rocketman. That movie came out in 2016.
RDJ sounds sooo different from singing vs talking I didn’t know his voice could get that high. With him being so deep. Maybe I’m just used to the Iron Man movies. I don’t know. I don’t hear him sing that much.
I came here to say this! His character even sang an Elton John song in that movie which is why they wanted him for the Elton John Movie!
Why has no-one mentioned Alan Rickman? He did a masterful job in _Sweeney Todd_ And let's not forget Val Kilmer in _The Doors_
Renee Zellweger was Amazing to me I didn't know she could sing she was fantastic! ❤❤❤
Now I am going to have to watch Phantom of the Opera and Les Mis again!
It's because of Taron's performance of "I'm still Standing" from Sing that Elton John picked Taron to play him in the Biopic. o.o
Yep, I became a fan of his singing talent after Sing.
Yeah, when they said "that's ironic" I was thinking, um, it's not irony if one actually led to the other happening?
What about Matt Bomer, he sang in glee and Magic Mike xxl
Matt Bomer is great, he makes me blush with they are doing the show at the convegtion.
Doom Patrol too. He sings People Like Us (Kelly Clarkson)
Antonio Banderas for the win. He made Evita for me. ❤
When I was hooked on musicals for a time, I was most surprised to see and hear Hugh Jackman do his thing in 'Oklahoma'.
What about Emily Hampshire, in Schitt's Creek, when she sang "Maybe This Time" from Caberet?
She was so great!!! Total surprise
Excellent list. I would’ve also put Catherine Zeta-Jones at number one. Nobody knew she could sing. She was a real surprise.❤
For me she was always a singer turned actress, since I first heared about her for her part in Jeff Wayne's Spartacus.
I knew Robert Downey Junior could sing since 1993 from the movie "Heart and Soul".
You should have shown Amanda Seyfried's operatic voice from Les Mis as she has 2 very talented abilities of singing.
You missed Daniel Radcliffe on David Letterman when he was in How to Succeed in Business Without Even Trying
Chris Pine in Into The Woods and Disney’s Wish
I didn’t know Hugh Jackman could sing before I watched The Greatest Show Man in 2918
He started his career acting in a musical 😅
@@kishannaconandoyle1907 ya but I was just being born the year he was in Oklahoma
Yeah, we only have to wait 894 years to hear that.😁
Can we please put Darren Chris from Glee as Blaine Anderson in here? Songs like Teenage Dream, the acoustic version of Teenage Dream, Baby It’s cold outside, Somewhere we only know, Tonight, Beauty School Dropout, All of Me, Cough Syrup, Hey Soul Sister, and Last Friday Night, with Wanna be startin something. Are must see
Well, I think Darren is a fabulous singer, I believe the category was actors that were not initially known for their singing ability.
Kiera Knightly in Begin Again and of course Renee Zellweger.
Back that up a bit! In 1993 a little known movie called Heart and Souls which did star Robert Downey Jr which was a sleeper btw Also had his singing talents!
Emilia revealed her singing talent when she sang "Rastafarian Targaryen," in that spoof video.
I have an addition to the list: Tom Sturrige in "On the Road."
Ewan McGregor will always be one of my all-time favorite! Those beginning notes are just heart piercing. Moulin Rouge is in my top 3 favorite movies because of him.
Despite being a Broadway singer herself, Natalie Wood didn't sing in her role as Maria in West Side Story. Marni Nixon did a lot of famous movie vocal roles for which she was never credited (including in The King & I, as well as for Hepburn in My Fair Lady).
Natalie did sing in Gypsy though 😊
She was Sister Sophia in The Sound of Music - the one sticking up for Maria in How do you solve problem like Maria.
The late Patrick Swayze can also sing.
But we know that, he had a hit song.
@@melfarm9109 We didn't know that until he did... He also co-wrote She's Like the Wind.
I love Joni Mitchell's "River".
Grease 2 and Batman were the reasons I knew who Michelle Pfeiffer was as a kid lol
Great video I’m gonna say Nicole Kidman and Moulin Rouge and then also she had like a little part in the movie nine and then Marion Cotillard in the vie en rose because she could actually sing and she was also a nine
Yes! Wonderful diversity!
I would have thought Raul Esparza would have been on the list. Sure you might know him as the prosecutor on SVU,but his Broadway musical theater work is breathtaking.😊
When Ted Raimi took the stage to sing at a Xena convention, I was floored!! My mouth was open through his entire first song!!
They had a musical episode, and it was great!!
How about kevin spacey in beyond the sea where he played and sang as bobby darin
What about Jeff Bridges and Colin Farrell in Crazy Heart?
Seriously, listen to "Over and Over" sung by Forest Whitaker in Jingle Jangle. I never knew he could sing and he does it with such heart!
Zachary Levi! Wow! What a voice he has. I just thought he was, "Chuck."
Love love love the guy who did the Elton John movie. He was amazing. Bradly cooper is pretty good too. As well as Zac Efron.
Great list. I’m particularly thrilled when hearing Hugh Jackman perform in song and wow! Hugh Jackman can dance!
Kevin Kline in De Lovely was left out as well
He also sang his own rendition of "La Mer" (en Francais) at the end of the movie, "French Kiss" ❤ ❤
I LOVE Robert Downey Jr. He’s so talented. So I’m not surprised that he’s a good singer. There’s nothing he can’t do 😊
I wouldn’t have been surprised that the actor playing Elton John was a good singer because I’ve never heard of him.
I'd add Anthony Stewart Head as Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, who also starred in Repo: the Genetic Opera! He was incredible! (Also, Amber Benson as Tara, she has an amazing voice, too!)
Amber Benson, yes! The joint song with Tara and Giles is a close second to Spike's song, for me.
Gwyneth Paltrow, Garrett Hedlund and Leighton Meester all from Country Strong ❤❤❤ One of my favorite movies ❤ It's got 3 actors who can sing and 1 singer who can act 😊😊
Gwyneth sang in bounce long before that
@@melfarm9109 she sang in Duets with Huey Lewis before then too 💜💜 I love her voice 💜
Their all so great. I loved this. Thank you.
What about Ioan gruffudd sings amazing grace in amazing grace?
All of these are great picks. Renee Zellweger was a surprise also in Chicago. Worth a mention for sure.
Aaron Lohr (from Mighty Ducks 2 & 3). He was in Newsies with Christian Bale, David Moscow, and Bill Pullman. He also provided the singing voice of Aladdin for the 1992 movie.
Tom Hiddleston in I Saw The Light
Across the Universe was an underrated movie I thought
Completely agree. And So artistically and interestingly portrayed!
It's an awesome soundtrack too
Ewan McGregor sang in A Life Less Ordinary ❤
Moulin rouge apparently he and Nicole practice for hours and hours together and it shows because in a life less ordinary he did not sound like the same person
@@nv4699 I think it was meant to be like that, because in this movie he was a regular person. But of course he must have trained really hard for MR! 😁
I was blown away by Gerard Butler as the Phantom of the Opera! Who would have guessed that he had that hidden set of chops!
Gwyneth Paltrow - "Country Strong" (2010)
What about bounce?? That was like 20 years before that
JENSEN ACKLES!!! WHERE IS HE!!!!
Exactly. Was waiting for him to be on the list. I'm so disappointed. Also, why is The Rock on the list? He's OK, but the title says you find out they're "great singers," which he is not.
At a weird face contest somewhere, presumably.
It is no surprise about Michelle Pfeiffer, as she started out as a singer in the band The Mamas and Papas. However, you missed Tom Ellis of Lucifer. No one on the show new he could sing until the cast and crew went out for a karaoke night after a hard day of shooting.
That was Michelle Phillips in the M&P. I didn't remember Michelle Pfeiffer singing, though I saw "Baker Boys" in the movie theater back in the olden days ❤
Quite Frankly I'm shocked you did not mention any of the surprising talents in Duets including Paul Giamatti, Maria Bello, Andre Braugher and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Glenn Close, Sunset Boulevard. I know it’s a musical and not really what this video is asking for but her Norma Desmond is the only one I love!
That scene from Postcards from the Edge has always stayed with me.
Gary Busey "Buddy Holly Story"
He did Buddy proud!
Tom Hiddleston is great. See him in I Saw the Light. He's a great dancer too!
My jaw dropped when I heard Adam Driver sing in “Marriage Story”
It was so good!
R Downey Jr signing was unexpected and memorable. Ally McBeal gave us a treat
Thank you. Delightful! ❤
