  • When deciding whether or not to purchase an M235i or an M240i, there are many factors to consider. In this video I discuss many things to consider when looking at either car. To be clear, both of these little coupes are wonderful driving machines. Beautiful to look at, fast, nimble, and all around great for daily driving/track use.

Thanks for your vids man. I have been researching cars for about a year now. I was convinced I wanted a new VW golf or perhaps an audi a4 or s3. I've owned Honda products over the past 18 years. 2 Integra's GSRs. Civic Si. RSX-S (wrecked). ILX. I meticulously maintain my cars and love to drive. Everyone told me to look into BMW. I thought "they're nice but overpriced". I saw a blue m240i last summer and was locked in. Your videos along with a handful of others have been helping me maintain my sanity that this is the perfect car and my search needed to get deeper.
I looked around new/used for months. I'm in KC. Finding one on a dealership's lot was tedious. They had a ton of 230is. I knew I needed that v6 coming from a long line of underpowered 4 cyclinder cars. The prices were crazy too. We're talking close to 50k for a fully loaded 230i xdrive. 230 not 235i or 240. KC dealers simply know that they can sell the few cars they stock to the Kansas city elite over the course of the year. Snooty dealers that don't inspire love for the brand. They know what's hot in the lineup (M3/M4, 340, 440, m235/240) but they don't have any of those cars even to test drive. I kept looking cross country and found one in Wichita. I feel like a lucky man as I signed a low mileage lease for my new 2019 m240i xdrive - mineral gray. Less than 47k all in. Cannot believe how much superior this car is to what I had before. Maybe the dealer was right? The 230i should be enough power for anyone on the road. This inline 6 however is a demon on the road. I never felt so confident. It's much faster than I thought and seems much faster than 95% of traffic on my commute any given day. You can pass anything at will in this car. There is no such thing as 45mph in this car. You know no one can mess with you in the car as you can just blow by them and watch them vanish in the ether. I'm almost hesitant to drive in sports plus mode as the demon is unleashed further and seems to demand twice the gas. My stomach got quesy the first few times I floored it to "see of CZcams was right about the acceleration" (yes you guys were). It's hard to explain the joy of driving a car this fast to others that haven't experienced it. The tech is fantastic as well. The digital readout on the display is badass as well. I'm looking for excuses to take it out and rev it up. I'm wanting my friends and family to drive it to let me know it's not an illusion that it's lighting fast. I'm 6 days in to ownership and have my first mod. I did puddle lights that display "M" on the ground when the door opens. Actually pretty stock looking. My only wish is that I could hear the engine more. I'm just starting to look into that but I'm still a novice with car repair etc. Looking forward to watching you mod that gorgeous blue 235!

Nice video mate...really enjoyed it. haven't been on your channel for a long time But I have to say I will probably be back again soon. You seem more comfortable in your own skin now as compared with some of the early stuff you did when you had the 335i.
As for your choice of car, I really like how you're thinking. These are some of cars that are helping BMW maintain it's mojo IMO. Smaller, lighter cars designed for driving orientated enthusiasts while retaining decent practicality...that magic formula that BMW have done so well in the past. That's not to say that the bigger brutes aren't awesome machines (by all accounts they are pretty amazing) but I'm really glad that BMW didn't just abandon this segment of the market. The M legends (E46 M3 for example) are getting pretty long in the tooth now and it's getting harder to find one (here where I live anyway...I've been looking) without buying a beaten up one that will become a project car. Hard to get much more performance out of them too without some serious mods.
So, it seems to me that the current performance 2 series cars, obviously the M2 but also the 235i and 240i are worthy successors to spot in the used car market that has been occupied by the older M3 cars. Smaller and lighter. It's so often a recipe for fun.

For the more typical non-turbo bolt-ons on 93 octane or lower, both the N55 and B58 have fueling issues once you get into the 400whp range. Basically a tune and downpipe will put you in that realm. The B58 makes and sustains a bit more power from 6300 to 7000rpms which gives it better top end legs and the air to liquid intercooling is more efficient. In sub 120mph racing and similar mods, the cars will generate similar acceleration numbers. The B58 has a ton more complexity, lots more cooling components, and a rear mounted timing chain so longterm maintenance costs could be high.

Down here in South Florida one of the best places in the US for used car dealers that generally sell 3-5 year old highly sought after luxury and performance cars with between 40 and 50k miles for usually between 18 and 24K dollars... I know that's very specific but it's true. These dealerships are everywhere and will finance anybody. That's why you see so many broke people driving beamers and benzes down here. They only make about $500 to $1,000 per car as they work on a volume basis and can sell 50 cars some days because the prices are so great. BMW knows that with the supra having this engine, aftermarket is gonna pickup for these engines, and thus increase its popularity in the street world. When I was choosing a car to buy, I narrowed it down to two M240i's and an M235i.

One of the M240i's and the M235i were about the same price with the former being slightly more due to it being a bit newer and had lower mileage.

The best value is buying it stock and enjoy it without taking it to an "illegal" chop shop and butcher it. First, you already lose value the moment you drive off the lot. Once you do, youll know when something doesnt sound right or doesnt feel right and get to fixing the issue before it becomes an expensive issue. As far as performance, you will not be disappointed. Go test drive a few. Every car requires maintenance, but some cars you can put if off for longer before it becomes an issue. •  Před 5 lety

What's the most hp you can get from an M235i without third-party/after market parts? I'm considering buying one used but all of this is new for me and I want to play it safe until I learn more

320hp & 332lb/tq is the most you'll get without any sort of bolt on upgrade or software flash. its plenty of power to have fun with

@@SimplyCarThings Thanks man! Really appreciate your reply. What's a safe limit for hp improvement with a software flash? Businesses in my city claim that they can get up to 80hp with a stage 2, but I don't know if that could be real and/or damage the engine

@ honestly you can squeeze an extra 150+whp with the right setup. just stay on top of your maintenance and take care of the car. These engines/gearboxes are built to handle a lot of power!

ive noticed when trying to max speed on stock m235i that even on flat road traction control always kicks in and nearly makes me crash.
maybe the wind?? idk but whenever i try to max speed now i always take traction control off

I traded my M235i for an M240 and a hand full of cash. I couldn't be happier with both cars. The paint work on the M235i was a bit thin so I made sure to ceramic coat my M240i and put ppf on the bumper.

Which one drives better ? And which one sounds better ? I’m so indecisive right now I need help Iv short listed 2 cars but I felt the 235i sounds more aggressive ?

@@Noname-od5zy pros for the 235i. Sounds better and had slightly more at the top end. Pros for the m240i engine is even smoother, more power and torque through the low and mid range. Less turbo lag in comfort. Better fuel economy. Closed block design is stronger so better for turning up the boost. You will be delighted with iether. Put an msport exhaust on the m240 and out sounds good especaily in sports.

ChipZilla69 thanks you How much would one of those msport exhausts go for ?
I had a 435d x drive convertible but it got abit boring need something more nippy

ChipZilla69 also do them exhausts have an impact on fuel consumption?

    • @ChipZilla69
      @ChipZilla69 Před 5 lety

@@Noname-od5zy used msport exhaust is around £350 and new is £650. Fitting is extra. Fuel economy not impacted by exhaust. M235i and m240i are the same car so drive the same. M240 has a face lift and the new b58 engine as opposed to the n55 in the older model.
