This is the second home in which czcams.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).

I have an Edwards transformer 592 and I see only a red and a greenish white wire. Red is connected to middle and the greenish white to the right corner and I am assuming it might be 16V 10VA right now. Ring doorbell recommends 16V to 24 V but doesn’t mention VA. To be safe can I hook the middle red wire to left most corner to get 24V 20VA? Please note the marking on 8V/16V/10VA is faded but I can see it’s a 592 and also 24V and 20VA with arrows at the bottom. Also, the transformer is connected to the circuit breaker box. Please confirm?

When swapping the transformer out, I saw there were two black wires from the transformer to the nuts and once you replaced the transformer, it was one black and one white going to the nuts. Does it matter where these wires are connected to? I am asking because my transformer currently has 2 black wires and I am not sure what the purpose is for each wire.

I can't find my transformer! I don't think there's a problem with it though, since the house # light and the door bell do get 18Vs. Here's the issue. The bell works but the light on the button doesn't work anymore. One of the light bulbs in house # fixture has burned out too, but the other still works if I complete the circuit with a paperclip. Why would they both go out at the same time? Age? Something weird with the transformer? (just found my transformer, it was hiding in the garage. everything looks fine with it.)

I'm a technician and I was working at the house trying to find it for over 2 hours and it turned out to be UNDER the damn house and I mean literally under the house in a crawl space that was maybe 3 feet tall... Sometimes it depends on the state I've worked across the country, the most common place is in the attic, sometimes I've seen them in the garage by the water heater or in the closet where the water heater is Or near the HVAC, the best thing to do is follow the wire from the chime box and trace it But normally it's the basement, the attic or literally in the wall behind the chime box

i cannot identify the transformer wire from the doorbell wire because both cables have white and red wire. One red wire is taped (i am guessing from an old door bell from previous owner). I am thinking that the taped red wire belongs to the transformer. So I wired like so: red taped wire to transformer screw and the other red wire to the door bell screw. But then i had the amazing idea to swap them to see if i was right. Turns out that when i swapped them and pushed the doorbell it sound again. And now im confused as to which one is for the transformer and which one is for the doorbell. PLEASE HELP!!

HOWEVER I tested the wires at the doorbell itself and found that the doorbell is showing voltage (I tested it with a multimeter earlier and got nothing. I looked around in my basement and found a low voltage transformer on my furnace switch, I wonder is that for the thermostat or for the doorbell? I am half thinking to skip the mechanical chime that came with the house and and use the Ring Chime Pro chime. then I won't need to worry about the mechanical chime. I don't want to hook up the ring pro doorbell to the same transformer that is on the thermostat b/c there may not be enough voltage for it. I also have a low voltage wire going behind teh insulation in my basement that is a pain to remove but the wire is heading in the direction of the outlet for my sump pump, so they may have wired another transformer there. I don't know what the hell is going on but it is a pain in the ass. I will experiment with breakers tomorrow to see if the switch to the furnace turns off the doorbell too. it is all very bizarre.
