A very clear and honest review of a nice camera.
When the Zeiss Ikon was announced, I sent a mail to Zeiss in Germany.
Asking wether there will be a flektoscope constructed for the new Zeiss Ikon.
In the return mail a German Zeiss lady asked me: "Was ist ein Flektoscope?"
So I copied the image of the Flektoscope from my old prewar German photography book
and wrote the Zeiss Flektoscope was a kind of Leitz Visoflex, made in the late Thirties.
Some German Zeiss technician thanked me for my knowledge of old cameras.
Do you know why the long Leitz lenses and the optical visoflex have disappeared ?
When will you show us the Konica Hexar rangefinder camera with the Leica M mount?
Thanks Jaco! I did see a Konica Hexar at a recent workshop. If I see one again I will try to ask to borrow it to make a short video. (It reminded me of a Hasselblad Xpan!)
Its a more practical camera than any of the film Leica Ms. The viewfinder remains the biggest, brightest ever put on a 35mm rangefinder camera. And unlike most other electronic film cameras, Zeiss still services these (at reasonable prices esp. when compared to Wetzlar).

Thumbs up 👍 for the video as always. Two things to mention, first you can't shoot if the camera is switched off, I keep off because it more or less drains the battery. Second it came in two versions SW and ZM.
Thanks Irimie! Ah yes I did see this written but I didn't find much info. The SW is a bit like the Bessa L as I understand with no RF/VF

I prefer my Konica RF camera over the Zeiss Ikon. And is half the price as well
A student brought one to a workshop recently. I wish I’d asked to borrow it now so I could share a quick video. Next time! (It reminded me of my old xPan)

Thanks for your comparison, looks like a Leica-😁 But I prefer the original. And it's really fun to take pictures with it. And in the meantime I've learnt how to work and handle the rangefinder properly.

That viewfinder was definitely amazing compared to the M3's! Zeiss has a much more modern feel about it for sure, too bad it never continued into making digital cameras.

Thanks, yes struggling to find time but lots of new videos in the pipeline! :). Zeiss and Voigtlander are made in the same factory yes.
I like my M5 more than the M6and M7 , this zeiss ikon is a fantastic camera and not a cheap Japanese built , today the zeiss ikon price similar to M6 , other Japanese range finder worth mention is the Konica Hexar Rf which to me I like more than M7 . Leica is good but these zeiss ikon and Hexar RF as good as Leica M7 if not better . Hexar RF very practical camera faster load and unload .
