A guy who served in Kargil war won't play terrorist. Simple as that.
Mark strong(Hani) acted as the head of Jordanian special services. He did not play the role of a terrorist.Slightly misinformed.
Apparently, Nana Patekarji was offered the role of Al-Saleem, which he declined. Eventually the role went to Alon Abutbul, a renowned Israeli actor.
He was never offered role of Hani (brilliantly played by Mark Strong) but the Al Saleem. Ridley Scott had chosen Mark Strong for that role after seeing his performance in "Syriana (2005)" where he played a very short role of arab intelligence officer which is strikingly similar to what he did in "body of lies". Nana was supposed to play the role of Al Saleem, Ridley would have never played the gamble of putting some actor (even the great Nana Patekar) from third world in such a important role (that too while working with for the very first time) where he would be sharing screens with already established hollywood stars like Russel and Leo. That clown anurag kashyap better clear this out, he keeps on telling nana was offered role of Mark Strong which is nothing but lie, this clown was playing role mediator between the both parties, when nana says he was offered role of terrorist he is referring to Al Saleem's character and not Hani.
It was Mark Strong's role. There is an audition clip of Irrfan as well doing that part. Look it up.
@@aamilkeeyankhan I have seen it already and after watching it I realised why Ridley wanted Nana, it seems like he did tried auditioning few talented bollywood actors for that film (for more than 1 role), Irfan was awful in that audition clip to say the least, if I am not wrong then the guy blindfolded in that clip was nawazuddin. So out of all the options Ridley finally decided to go with Nana but since there is no official audition clip of him we can't be sure which exact role he was offered.
LOL then how did Irrfan star as the lead or a major character in several big budget blockbuster Hollywood movies including films produced by Spielberg? Films that grossed over half a Billion USD.

Compare it with Mr Bachchan playing micro miniscule role in 'the great gatsby' just for the heck of it.
Even role of al saleem, with its less screentime was most imp in story as al saleem was main target of leonardo and is mentioned throughout the movie. So it was courageous of nana to leave it.

This is also a reason why we dnt see indian actors in Hollywood....too much over the top nationalism and humanity....in Hollywood they play character for the film and leave....Indian actors are sentimental
