While the counting may be a cheeky reference to The Count from Sesame Street it is also based in historical Asian myths. Their version of vampires are said to have the need to count things (usually rice or seeds) and bags of them would be left outside to delay a vampire from being able to enter your house until sunrise.

    • @cayreet5992

Yeah I came down here to say this! The count from sesame Street is based off of Asian lore. I also heard in ancient Egypt people with like OCD or autism would be thought of as vampires and ended because of that legend. Idk if thats true or just a rumor tho

  • @Valdreag17
    @Valdreag17 Před měsícem +28

The Count from Sesame Street is actually based on an ancient Slavic and Chinese myth of vampires. In China vampires are magically compelled to count spilled rice or coins, Slavic myths of vampires include extreme levels of OCD-styled behavior where a vampire would have to separate piles of sand if they noticed it was made from more than 2 shades or colors.

      > Slavic myths of vampires include extreme levels of OCD-styled behavior where a vampire would have to separate piles of sand if they noticed it was made from more than 2 shades or colors
From what source/folklore/myths did you get this bullshit? Slavic folklore have many different types of vampires, and vampires strengths/weakness, but I don't know about such a thing as a sand count weakness.

I am but a simple human being. I see 40k, I click. however, there are some minor mistakes here and there I have to point out. Firstly, there is only one Astates who lived for more than 1.000 years and he is Dante the chapter master of the Blood Angels in the current setting there isn't more that I am aware of. There were Astates that lived for more than a millennium from other legions that weren't Blood Angels, famously Sigismund of the Imperial Fists. Secondly, all that you listed like super strength, functional immorality, heightened senses, and lives for a couple of centuries are universal to all Astates not just the sons of the Great Angel. Finally, the Night Lords are like the Boltons in space of the Song of Ice and Fire universe, they are ruthless yet extremely efficient torturers. They lack the core characteristic of a real Vampire which is drinking blood, so I wouldn't include them as 40k Vampires.

The blood angels had been afflicted with some sort of flaw before the Heresy.
Horus had discovered solar decades earlier a carefully guarded secret of the Blood Angels when he fought alongside Sanguinius' IXth Legion in a xenocidal campaign on the world of Melchior. Horus had come upon his brother Primarch in a sunken ruin of an alien chapel and had witnessed the unthinkable -- Sanguinius murdering one of his own Astartes. Sanguinius explained his actions to his bewildered brother. He had discovered that within his own genome there was a terrible trait that lay buried and waiting to be awakened.
This genetic flaw would later be known as the Red Thirst.
Sanguinius had been aware of the flaw in his genome for several years, keeping the truth from the Emperor and his fellow Primarchs. Some of the Angel's sons had learned a measure of the truth, but only Azkaellon, First Captain Raldoron, the IXth Legion's Master Apothecary on the Legion homeworld of Baal and a few others were fully aware of the extent of this affliction carried within their Primarch's genome. They were united with Sanguinius in finding a way to repair this "Flaw."

If you think about it, Horus isn't really a traitor, at least not to the same level as lorgar or angron, if it wasn't for lorgar and erebus he probably wouldn't have fallen

There are literal Vampires in 40k that you seem to have completely missed... The *Vampyres* they exist on Necromunda as one of the feuding clans and are hunted by the inquisition for obvious reasons.
    Copied from the Wiki.
The Vampyres are practically immortal, able to regenerate from horrific injuries, to the point they can come back from the dead, and are unnaturally resilient and hardy. Because of this they don't need to wear armor. The few people who are considered to have a true understanding of the Vampyres have suggested different methods of dealing with them, including prayers to the Emperor of Mankind and decapitation - the latter usually being more effective. Once a vampire is neutralized all of its thralls will regain their will.[1]
Vampyres usually feed on the blood and fear of their victims, as long as the blood is not too tainted with pollutants, psychic or man-made, or comes from mutants, Hive fauna, aliens or Undead. Those that are drained by a vampyre quickly fall under their mind control and join their cult as a thrall. When a human is drained of his lifeforce he is often turned into a Vampyre. These can in time grow in power, ultimately becoming Vampyre Lords or even Vampyre Masters.[1]
Vampyres are invisible to technical means so bionic eyes and other technological sight-enhancing weapons will not see them, though red dot sights will still target them.[1]

First off. Love the vid. Blood angels are one of my favorite factions.
But. About the marines living to a few hundred years. Well, there are quite a few marines that was around when the horus heresy started in 30k. And now its 40k so there are a lot of marines that are 10,000 years old. And thats not even bringing in the Custodes into this.
A marine living to 200 or 400 years old is very common.
You should do a video about the Emperors children. They are my absolute favorite faction. I love how they get to use noise based weapons.

A lot of loyaltist marines are fairly young in 40k terms, but the traitor legions have many members that fought during the heresy, especially chaos marines

No, only sanguinius had wings and they were likely warp nonsense as Big E is not big on inhuman mutations. Any other wings you see are mechanical

You forgot the actual race of vampires that exist in 40k. Check out page 205 of 40k Rogue trader. Yes i know 1st edition is old. Also genstealers are pretty much a sci fi twist on vampires but without the blood drinking. Lots of forcing yourself on people and having them under your thraol, and its also a curse spread by a kiss.

Didn't know about 40K vampires, I'm only familiar with the 5 bloodlines of Warhammer, it's kinda disappointing that they're included here instead of having their own vid, especially with all the special characters/founders of the bloodlines.
