      I agree. But being a devil's advocate, both movies came out in 1987, so the vampires were modernised to appeal to the kids of the 1980's. Whistle Twilights were... what they were. I mean, try to remember the youth of the early 2000s.

    In the interview I saw on the 2 disc DVD, Lance Henriksen said his ship drifted into the reeds of the river and he looked up and saw black winged harpies descend onto the ship and begin to feed off of the dying men. For some reason one of the creatures took pity on Jesse and cut it's wrist open, feeding Jesse it's blood, turning him into a Vampire. He also said that he believed that Jesse turned Severen because he reminded him of his younger brother who died in the war. Diamondback, according to Jenette Goldstein, was turned in the 1930's during the great depression. She also said that she probably turned Homer sometime in the 1950's, because that was as close to ever having a child as she was going to get. My opinion for the ending of the movie is that, if Jesse was the source of their Vampiric curse, then his death should have cured the others, turning them human again.

      Meh, I don't know. Had a few great movies and bands, but it's not like the movies or the songs are wiped off the face of the earth.
      And, this may be due to a different POV, but I _don't_ miss movies and tv-shows which were basically "bunch of white guys + quota non-WASP + the girl friend".
      Yes, today's writers are still a bit hit-and-miss about writing female leads, but they've at least evolved to the point where, e.g. there's enough chemistry between Shuri and Namor to melt the screen, but the writers just leave it at that and don't ruin a good story with some "I have you now, my pretty" BS.

  • @UndeadGunslinger1997
    @UndeadGunslinger1997 Před 6 měsíci +19

    "Near Dark" is a very unusual film about vampires, although the word "vampire" is never used in it. And vampires here are very far from standard image of Dracula or Nosferatu: neither garlic, nor holy water, nor crosses, nor an aspen stake act on them, they do not sleep in coffins and do not turn into bats, and in general they are completely devoid of gothic style and presented more like night bandits. The only thing they have is a thirst for blood and fear of sunlight. The most remarkable aspect of the movie is that vampirism is interpreted here as a metaphor for drug addiction and bad company, from which you can recover. The only question is what price you will have to pay? This is quite an interesting project in which Kathryn Bigelow is experimenting with genres: so the film perfectly combines melodrama, horror, and western, accompanied by dark atmosphere and noir aesthetics.

If you're gonna be stuck forever at an age, 17-19 Seems like a sweet spot if you were a young vampire. That way it's not odd for people to see you without parents or if you need to find work to make money it's not so odd. 22:09 that is so pre-90s. That is.. was… a HUGE misconception. Tractor trailer drivers believed that if your truck started to jack-knife, you could lock the back trailer brakes and it would yank the trailer back into position preventing it from jack-knifing. All trucks built more then 25-30 years ago have a special button or lever in the dash that specifically control the very back 2 wheels on your trailer. I forgot the name they called it. That way if the trailer started to swerve a little to much for your liking, you could flip the switch and lock those back 2 tires and straighten out your rig….
    It had a sort of logic to it. But it was later scientifically proven to not only be wrong, it actually increased the likelihood that your truck would jack-knife.
    So every truck that has those switches (and there’s still a lot of them that do) those switches are literally hot glued in the off position. Which is how I learned about this whole subject. I asked “why is that switch glued shut?” Back when I used to be a truck driver in training.

    Thanks for showing that movie 🍿🎥 again cause I too like how you couldn't tell they were vampires unless they are hit by sunlight and start smoking and catching on fire 🔥 Great 80"s movie and awesome cast of Stars.🤓👍😎

    I really love this movie as its one of the few vampire movies that didn't totally terrify me as a kid. But on the different tastes in vampire films I'll have to disagree on 30 days of night not romanticizing vampires, of course the movies definitely dont do that but the comic series does. Even the second movie to 30 days does so too at the end. Near Dark though is great in this aspect since it combines the two together of romanticizing and beastial horror of the idea of vampire. Having the supernatural aspect of uncontrol for the vampires while also having the little "family" dynamic is what makes this movie shine.

    Homer (about 16yrs old) is in a movie called "So, You Think You're Parents Are Wierd!?" that's surprisingly good. Very well written & acted and filmed. Low budget but effects are pretty good. At about 1/3 through they figured how to make the robots hand move & grasp things, I'd like to know how they did that.

    I’m rewatching your review of this movie (I really like this particular vampire movie). I completely agree with you that they marketed this movie all wrong as it definitely was not a “horror” at all.

    This film summary makes me appreciate Near Dark a lot more. I wasn't big on this film because I felt the story was too straight-forward and I wanted more nuances and complexities and more background on the characters but now, I appreciate it, for what it is.
