- Khayman, the 3rd vampire to ever exist in the Vampire Chronicles, fledgling to the queen of the damned, Akasha herself. Khayman has had quite a journey and his story reflects that, especially in the queen of the damned novel, where we’re first introduced to him. Now he does make appearances in some of the follow up books and while that is always welcomed, I have to admit, he does become a forgettable character as these appearances become less frequent but let’s change that today and take a look at his entire life beginning with his origins as the Chief Steward of Kemet.

He didn’t become forgettable. Anne Rice just threw him in the trash with the rest of the characters not named Lestat.

I don't think he was forgettable, but he was never a major player in The Vampire Chronicles anyway. Lestat is the series. I don't understand why some fans always seem so upset by this. There are many other characters who become mainstays, but Lestat drives the series. Khayman was still a great character, and I would've liked a standalone book from "New Tales of the Vampires" series with him.

Agreed, every other character is honestly more interesting than Lestat or Louie, my personal favourites are Marius And Mael.

I still see Khayman as one of the most forgotten Vampires of the series, but he definitely made his existence unforgettable in the Queen of the Damned, I wouldn't mind seeing the life of Teskhamen the burnt one who made Marius and becoming one of founders of the Talamasca, apparently he was burnt so badly his hair became eternally white while he healed

It is briefly mentioned in the QotD that Khayman himself states his childhood was good. I'm not certain if he comes from a noble bloodline but he was NOT poor.
He generally has an optimistic disposition, loves music, loves women, and is all-round a "big kid" and is the friendliest of the vampires but the WORST when it comes to killing his victims - so, stay on his good side!
It's been a little while since reading Queen of the Damned, but I don't remember him being described as any of that. I remember him being mostly a soldier who had sympathy for the red headed twins. He did feel regret and guilt for violating them in front of the royal court, but he wasn't exactly as cuddly as you described.
He was always a favorite of mine, enough to use his name.. for my Son's middle name...

agreed, he was literally the sweetest vampire, and along with Male and the other greats he was pushed aside for, honestly the most boring character of lestat.

A very interesting character, indeed. I saw another comment that is asking for this to be put on film and I AGREE!
Khayman quickly became a great character for me in Queen of the Damned I felt sorry for him being dragged into Akasha's cruelty and his not knowing his own strength I never thought he'd be killed off so easily I remember being flabbergasted how sinister Prince Lestat is though its still an enjoyable experience with new characters and answers to older questions I was happy that some old characters were still alive and well such as Bianca and others from the second book
I just finished the book. His death was shocking I had to put the book down for a minute. I remember thinking this can’t be right.
@@oktoberKI remember just pausing after reading the part with Roshamandes and Benedict hacking Maharet and Khayman to pieces rereading it several times in disbelief, I hated Roshamandes after that and wasn't fond of the two of them to begin with, though it was satisfying having Lestat pull out his axe and started to torture him for kidnapping Lestat's son and later Lestat finally killing him in Blood Communion, I just wasn't big on Roshamandes and Benedict since he just slouched in his castle while the children of satan kidnapped his fledglings and forgot about them
Maybe I just read some serious spoilers about his Death and some other very interesting things...
Khayman was always a fascinating character..

Now... No worries about.. what I read...
I never read Book 4...
But... Lestat has a Son?...
The.. Incapable of Sexual gratification, was a Unique perspective and actually far more interesting than any other Vampire Tale...
Sex is trivial and shapes ego, envy, lust, weakness of self control, Human.....
It's absence in the Books, made every relationship real, special, Important, that Bond between them meant More because of this...
Now I need a paperback of book 4..

Semantics. In English, North of Africa can be considered as the Northern part of Africa or Northern to the Africa continent. Colloquially, North of Africa means the former not the latter, so your point is moot.

Each kingdom operated independently and as much as there was trade, war, intermarriage etc, there was no joint identity of dwelling on the same piece of rock(aka continent) as opposed to dwelling on a different piece of rock separated by an ocean/sea. The Egyptians had interactions with many kingdoms South of them, facilitated by the Nile including Nubia/Kush(Modern day Sudan) and Aksum(Modern day Ethiopia). There are speculations that Egyptians might have gone as far as the East African coast and interacted with the 'new' Swahili culture but that's still a theory.
The name 'Africa' was coined by either the Romans or the Phoenicians in describing Berbers(who lived in the Maghreb) and this way after the existence of Egypt, Nubia & Aksum.
Khayman truly deserved better to me I really didn't like how his character basically was wasted in the books i hope when the show gets to his character they do him justice or when/if they do a prequel series

Agreed, it should have taken at least two books to deal with the threat of Akasha, or have her be the overarching bad guy for the first half of the series. Then maybe something happens (like a spell or whatever) that when Akasha does finally die, Amel is fully unleashed and he either takes a new host from another ancient vampire or his sudden freedom causes all of the vampires to turn back into mortals. IDK, something. Just stop making the original vampires so easy to kill.

Enough in my opinion to get a understanding of the changes done with Characters Appearance, Time line (era), Character building (getting to know Louis) ...
The First Film Adaptation, I understood the edits and why, for Time, length of Movie etc..

@@AtZero138 Anne Rice's vampires were impotent. That doesn't mean they don't have sexual desire; it just means the males cannot perform.
TBH, she's the only one who ever dealt with the mechanics of sexuality and how a non-functioning heart can affect that. If the heart don't beat, then the blood don't flow...
I have only seen the first series of the new adaptation (S-2 is finally dropping on free TV here this week), but I am loving it.
So looking forward to season 2!

@@nzurimccree295 if they were born and lived during the time before pharaoh, they wouldn’t be Middle Eastern. Not even mixed with Middle Eastern. Before the pharaoh, the rulers of Egypt (Kemet) were Nubian.

But Enkil was forced to marry a woman from Uruk because he didn't have a sister to marry, which they did to keep the royal bloodline pure. So, Enkil and Kayman probably should have been depicted as more Nubian, and Akasha should have been depicted as middle eastern. Unless, there was more intermixing of the people in that region than you would think. Remember, those two regions are pretty close to each other, and ancient people didn't just stay in one place, they traveled. Especially in that part of the world. That's why some of the earliest advancements were made there. It's at the crossroads of Africa, Asia, and Europe. People, along with technologies and ideas traveled and mixed in that part of the world. Mixing, not isolation, is how you get advancements.

From my understanding of researching Kemet, it covered modern day Egypt and several areas north of Africa.

Akasha, Enkil, Khayman, Maharet and Mekare were all six thousand years old. Akasha _made_ Khayman. There is no vampire that predates Akasha.
