This comprehensive review should answer all of your burning questions about this brand new e-reader. - Věda a technologie
Excellent review as always. The best channel for e-readers no doubt.
thanks so much MN
That was a good review and comparison. Thank you
Great review, chaps. Exactly what I needed.
great to hear !
I finally can upgrade my 3 year old Kobo Aura HD :) I adore the Kobo's update policy, Pocket and social media integration, reading statistics and the clean menu. It'll be my next e-reader. However it's not available in Germany right now.
Great! Thank you :)
really nice review. Thank you guys.
thanks so much
>perfect for manga
>no SD card expansion, not enough room for manga
yea CBZ files are pretty heafty
Impressed by the Collections option in the Reading List. Amazed by the Font Settings. Dumbstruck by the Natural Light functionality!
+michael kozlowski oh thanks for your concern, Michael. ☺️ But, I'm a Kindle person, through and through!
I still have and love this ereader, and haven't found a good enough reason to switch to another KOBO at this time, being 2021
Hello Tim! Could I ask you some questions? Does the light sensor changes the brightness constantly? Does it drains the battery? Thank you in advance!
Thanks for the review. You've almost got me convinced. But I'm curious about what happens with your highlights. How do you access them when you've finished reading a book? My current Kobo model is quite old - more than 5 years - and doesn't have this feature, so I have no idea how Kobo has made it function, but if it operates well then I can definitely see myself moving towards this product.
thansk NA !
So, fairly non-removable 8GB storage, right? After accounting for the space taken up by the OS, how much free space is actually available for our books?
I'm tempted to get this one but I still love my Kobo Aura h2o. Can you do a comparison? Mostly curious about how dictionaries compare, as well as resolution/readability.
we will see if we can get around to that
may someone help me please?
i bought kobo aura one about a month ago from Amazon but the option "library" and "overdrive" is not there.
i updated to the latest version with the new interface but it is still not available, what should I do? 😢
thanks for the long awaited review. Hits everything we need to know.
was it my imagination...or was there a little color uneveness in the white screen? yellowish at top...and blueish at bottom.
I really like this ereader.
How is Kobos product longevity compared to Kindle? Should you expect to have a Kobo for years?
I've had mine since 2012. Lol. I just changed the battery last week.
This makes the Kindle look like it's standing still. Nice to have someone innovating in this market.
lol nice !
Hi, Thanks for your vid. Compared to the New Kindle Oasis (2017) which would you consider is better and why? I'm planning to change my old Sony e-Reader for a new one but am not sure which one to choose. From the Oasis Y like it has physical buttons but I don't like it´s almost squared shape which seams not very confortable, and from Aura One i like the 7.8" but I've seen in your video it some times fails when touching so, which one would you recommend?
Thanks
What say you? Should I replace my H2O? I'm quite happy with it, I don't need anything larger and I mostly sideload books.
would love if you guys did a comparison video of the major e book readers!
+michael kozlowski
I would like to see this one, y'alls 13 in., and a 6 in. Kindle lined up together....just for the visual size comparison.
Thanks for your review. Two questions:
1) What is this like to hold in one hand? Or is it meant to be held in two or propped on a stand?
2) When would Amazon oasis 2/voyage 2 be released?
Thanks!
1. its a lightweight, good sized ereader, and quite thin. Offers good grip
2. we have no information on that
I'm thinking about buying one of these but considering that this was released in September of last year, do you guys know if a new version is going to be released this September 2017?
Hello. I want to get something to read some academic PDF books. What would you suggest? E-reader or a tablet? I'm also concerned about my eye strain. It hurts for me if I start at screen for long time. Thank you.
Good job guys! - It's the e-reader I've been looking for. (any notes on the memory expansion?)
no expansion available
I bought an Aura One and it had quite few issues: battery drain (over night), phantom touches and the light sensor constantly adjusting the brightness. Also, it is not recognised by any of my Windows 10 devices.I returned it for an exchange which had all the same issues.Turns out there s a firmware update coming that is supposed to address this (great QA, Kobo!), so if you plan to purchase you might want to check the forums before parting with your hard earned.
oh man
Do you plan to do an extended review with PDFs, Comics and Manga?
If your future review mentions that it doesn't handle pdfs/manga well, can you please also mention whether it can possibly be resolved with future firmware updates?
Great review. I would love this but I have very small hands and only ever read books. I'm a bit concerned it will be too large for me. I read kobo are bringing out an aura 2 edition. I am wondering if this will be worth upgrading my original aura to?
check out our youtube channel
new videos are up
WOW !!! You guys have really led the way with a larger e-reader. I see that its going to go that way. Can I hit you up for the future winning Lotto Max numbers? ..lol
Hugs
Katt
+michael kozlowski Great!! I'll play them 😁
+michael kozlowski Now 😁
Do you have a pic of an ebook with 0 margins in landscape mode? Also, does it have an equivalent to kindle's "location", aka 128 bytes of data? i read a lot of fanfic so there are no page numbers.
we will see if we can do that for you :)
When are you doing an unboxing/review of the aura edition 2?
+michael kozlowski Looking forward to the comparison video! :)
Looks like a great eReader.
indeed it is
Hello, I currently own the first edition of the Kindle Paperwhite (a little outdated) and wanted to transition to Kobo. Would you guys recommend the Aura One or should I, perhaps, wait for a new Kobo? (I'm not sure how old is the Aura One so I don't know if a new, better version is coming out soon).
we will be the first to know when a new kobo comes out or not !
so should I wait a little more or just get the Kobo Aura One?
Don't wait, this is the best reader you can get. The recently announced a new Aura HD available in late May. The Aura one is $50 more, but comes wit the higher res, larger screen and Overdrive integration. I think it is worth the extra $50. The Aura One should not be updated for another year or more.
Can i manually put ebooks of mostly PDF,EPUB etc format in it from my computer?
yes you can, via USB cable
So, it doesn't come with the new i.MX7 processor, does it?
With ComfortLight turned on and low light setting, do you notice green blotches?
no we do not :)
How about doing a video on how to update the firmware on the Kobo e-readers. There is new firmware out now that we can wait for & d/l via wifi or download onto our pc's and manually update. Only problem is there are no instructions on how to actually do that. Nowhere on the web cause the e-reader is so new are there step by step instructions on how to manually flash the update that you can d/ from several sources.
Can screensavers be changed without root? Is there margin changing functionality for pdf like I think pocketbook inkpad has?
no :(
Helpful review guys. One thing I noticed from watching videos of this e-reader was that the text of a book when being read doesn't seem to go all the way to the bottom of the screen with quite a noticeable gap. Is that the case? If so, it's disappointing when one of the main points to commend this reader is the extra screen size.
well its not like the gap makes it 6" of screen
the screen is measured diagonally so gap or not, you still have alot of screen
It looks real cool, I will admit I love kindles, but this is packed with lots of goodies!.
I like having the Library option. Why doesn't Kindle have that, I wonder?
indeed it is !
I have a Kobo Aura One but the natural light feature is a little blotchy, the light isnt really evened out... could that just be a fault in my Kobo Aura One?
it could be yes
Wow this thing absolutely destroys the Kindle Oasis on practically every front. Not to mention it's cheaper too and isn't plagued with ads. Very impressed with Kobo!
right?!
Hi Michael. Could You guys show us OpenDyslexic and all Amazon custom fonts on it vs Oasis? I'm also curious about comparison between Kindle Voyage and Kobo Aura One auto brightness setting. How fast are they and how much difference in brightnes they set? Is Kobo auto white balance equivalent to Apple TrueTone???
we can see if we can do that in a future video
Does it have a browser? If so will you do some demos with it at a later date?
yes it does
i was wondering
if you can compare the aura one with older device like kobo glo
to see if there a noticeable difference from 2 generation ago
in performance ,screen quality ,etc
or is it just marginal
i know that many people want a comparison against the kobo Glo but it's far too old to compare against eachother we believe
will you can make the comparison of how far e-reader improved in this time period 2012 vs 2016
and anything that didn't change or got worse
and maybe mention anything you wish improves in few years
any chance you could test using the D&D manual for PDF's? Curious on more "meaty" pdf performance.
Would be great if you could do a video on pdf exprerience on this thing.
we did indeed !
Great review! I wonder if there is any way to reduce that giant margin at the bottom of the screen. That bugs me so much!
yea its crazy, but its a software thing
can you search your library by genres or tags? I use Calibre to set tags on my books and am looking for a reader that will let me look for books in that way.
Well, you can buy a book and strip the "protector" and later do whatever you like with it using Calibre. Some people against it though, but I do it pretty often (I stripped it and convert it to kepub for better reading experience).
Stefanus Paulus yes but does the device let you search for genres or tags that's my question. Like if I tag something "classics" can I search for classics and everything tagged that show up for example
Can i read articles from pocket on this reader?
Please make a comparison between kobo aura vs kobo aura h20 vs kobo aura 2
we very well may
does it support audiobooks?
Hello! I'm thinking on getting one, but I can't find it on the internet. Where did you get the kobo aura one. please give me a link. I have already Subscribed!
thanks!
You can buy it straight from the Kobo website. ca.kobobooks.com/
I want to buy Kobo aura one
How does the OS compare to Android? I would love to see Goodereader compare this with the best 8" android ereaders (Onyx Boox i86 and Inkpad 2)
android is more loose as you can side load everything
but the kobo OS is solid
Wow. This ereader is impressive. 😀
It lets put the landscape text? The dictionary is as good as the kindle?
no the kindle is a little more solid out of the box
How big is the screen?
Will it be possible to install koreader for this model ?
you cant install anything becuase it is not open android
Does it have a touchscreen lock, so I can hold it like a regular book, and rest the thumb on the screen?
I find e-readers are very tiring to use not because of their weight but because I cant hold them properly without touching the screen and messing up with random touch input.
no it does not
Do its competitors have this feature?
Mihai Cos the kindle oasis 2 has touch screen lock. You can disable touchscreen on kindle oasis 2
Is this really worth the money? Debating between this or the aura edition 2.
Also how is battery on this? Lots of reviews complaining about how bad it is. Any glitchy ness on this one? Had a glo before real bad experience. Giving them another shot since the paper white gives me headaches and major eye strain.
Can I read Arabic pdf books with this device?
Please compare with Kobo Glow Hd ,kindle PW,and the Kindle Voyage
its coming soon
Natural light thing is very good, with the auto mode. But I can't still understand why don't they put a night mode where everything is reversed? Easy peasy solution.
yea, right?
To me, inversing the screen would consume MASSIVE amounts of energy, since it uses energy to form black, while white doesn't need energy.
where can I get this in the USA? and how much is it?
you can order it on kobo's website
Is it same fast as kindle as ?
pretty much, yes but not when it comes to PDF
Does it haves an Internet Web Browser?
yes it does
Michael, Peter, ¿It's possible to remove the page number?
yes.
+Yontree Settings.
HI, does it auto rotate?
auto? no
rotate? yes
I would like to buy this ereader. However, his price will very high in my country as always.
Regards from Brazil.
Eu tb. Comprei um kobo mini pelo ebay e chegou tem 3 dias. kobo +frete R$171 e de tributos R$ 132. Sem contar o frete, os tributos saíram mais caro que o ereader.
This is so annoying. I've been waiting to buy an ereader for about a year, researched what was best for me, decided on a Kobo, flew to UK and bought an H2O at the beginning of August and then this gets released which is so much better for me!! Damn.
heh, i have been waiting to buy an ereader for years, finally bought h2o also in august, then this happened. oh well, will sell it and will buy the new aura one.
Since it's waterproof there is no reasonable hope to pry off the back and access the SD card? I'd happily upgrade from my Glo HD to this if it can do that.
its a sealed unit, yea
How I wish if all the software features are available in Kindle :/
wouldnt that be a treat !
Sadly no SD card. Gonne stick with my H2O for now.
yea i hear ya
Yeah, I'm afraid that giant margin at the bottom is a deal breaker for me. I'm not buying an 8" ereader if I cannot take full advantage of the extra screen real estate. It's stupid.
its still quite big though
No sd card...? ://
+michael kozlowski Ohh yeah, i thought about that afterwards. I can transfer my books via the data cord, but thought it'd be easier to just put in my sd card, since my books are already on it. Hmm, i think the waterproofing is better though. Thanks for responding.
What's wrong with your micro?
does it support arabic ??
it can support arabic PDF's yes
No memory expansion, so I'll keep my Aura H2O...
yea, right
Kindle Killer
quite possibly
sorry i don't understand what you say and i can speaking english
we are speaking fluent english perfectly fine. the problem does not lie with us
thank you
