  • In part 5 of our Porsche 924 turbo build, we give the exhaust one final shot by installing a new high-flow catalytic converter and then rebuild the entire front suspension. We're so close to getting ready to start the bodywork phase of the build.
    I'm in need of a few parts for this car. Email me at autoanatomy@icloud.com if you can help!
    -Speedo cable from oxygen sensor counter to the gauge itself
    -Front windshield
    -Gas/Temp gauge (the circuit is broken for instrument lighting)
    - Gauge surround
    - Tan carpet kit
    - Fuel sending unit
    I'd love to partner with a powdercoating company to get the mesh wheels reconditioned. If you're willing, hit me up at autoanatomy@icloud.com

      It’s more work than most cars to replace the clutch but not impossible. Basically it’s pulling the trans and rear end. Or I’ve heard that some just pull the engine as it’s less work!

    i would like to say that you know alot about 931s by now, My car had a bad fuel pump, bad wires to the starter, so i fixed and got a new fuel pump, got a new fuel pump bosch 044, got the car to crank it wud start but wudnt fire up, it wud start from the power of the starter, theres fuel on the distributor, im thinking if its timing? or compression? any advice will be of great help. There is a hole on the bell housing to see the little circle on the flywheel, i took it to top dead center and the marking on the cam gear lined up to the casing. so assumign car didnt jump timing, and the belt looks good

    • @AutoAnatomy
      @AutoAnatomy  Před 4 lety

      There’s so much that it could be. My first thought is clogged injectors. If you have spark and fuel pressure to the distributor, does fuel come out of the injector when you press on the air flap? I’d start by bypassing the fuel pump relay so it runs constantly, and then press on the air flap (at the distributor). You should hear the injectors open up, will sound like a moaning/screaming noise.

    • @rahiee
      @rahiee Před 4 lety

      @@AutoAnatomy no, none of that at all. so you could be correct, i cleaned them however the same way you did, with air

    • @rahiee
      @rahiee Před 4 lety

      @@AutoAnatomy I did a compression test and the compression is good on all cylinders, I have spark, i have fuel, but to me it seems like theres not enough fuel pressure, but I sprayed alot of starting fluid on the inlet manifold, Still no start, however it tries to start up after 15 seconds of cranking. Timing is good, do the injectors go bad? i cleaned them the say way you did, but it seems to me like the issue is beyond the fuel, or else it wud have started a little bit with the starting fluid.

    • @AutoAnatomy
      @AutoAnatomy  Před 4 lety

      @@rahiee The only other option I have right now is to measure how much fuel is coming out of the injectors. If you look at this video czcams.com/video/R6qcx-iNbXI/video.html at around the 5:05 mark, I show how I "flow tested" the injectors. You may want to look into doing the same. There are only a few things that it could be: If you have compression, spark, appropriate timing, and fuel it should run. You're saying that it has spark, it has good compression, and the timing is right then it can only be fuel.

      It depends on the amount of rust and overall condition. Is it a turbo or NA? They’re overall fairly easy to work on and reliable once all the kinks are worked out. The parts aren’t terribly expensive since they’re mostly Audi/VW bits.

      If you're referring to the center catalytic converter, it wasn't good. It had been modified previously and the inner pipe was rattling around inside the hollowed-out converter. I wish it had not been modified before I purchased the car, otherwise I wouldn't have touched it.

    Good video, rebuilding suspension an old car's is timing consuming but an inexpensive and simple repair that will make the car handle like new. Now start wearing gloves. Seriously. Petroleum will penetrate your skin and get into your blood. And painting without gloves is an even bigger hazard. Costco sells nitrate gloves, no excuses. .

  • @willingless3389
    @willingless3389 Před 4 lety

    Hey there, your car seems to have non turbo suspension! All turbos had larger vented disks all round and 5 lug hubs. I’m stumped as to why your car has NA 2.0 suspension, maybe someone downgraded it in the past? How strange

    • @AutoAnatomy
      @AutoAnatomy  Před 4 lety

      My understanding is that on the early cars ('79-'80) four lugs with disc/drums were standard and 5 lugs with 4 wheel discs was optional, but most people chose them. That's why they were standard on the later build cars. I may be wrong, but that's what I've found in my research. Thanks for checking out the channel!

    • @willingless3389
      @willingless3389 Před 4 lety

      Auto Anatomy I never knew that, I always thought all turbos had disks. I should know better after 7 years of 924 ownership 😂

    • @AutoAnatomy
      @AutoAnatomy  Před 4 lety +1

      @@willingless3389 Here's what I found from Rennlist: The standard/base brakes for the 924 are easily identified by the 4-lug bolt pattern, and the use of wheel bolts.This braking system consists of solid (non-vented) front disks, and rear drums. The upgraded brakes for the 924 are part of the M-471 option, and use vented disks all around with the more common five-lug pattern (with studs and lug nuts).
      The very early 931 also used the standard/base brakes as per the 924 above. But by the 80 model year the brakes with M-471 option became standard on the 931.
