Several years after surrending, Onoda came back to Philipines to apologized to the local people in Lubang Island for being involved in some killing(the raid) and also he donated a ton of cash(I forgot the numbers) to help people, especially the local farmers. I respect Onoda for his patriotic.

If I came home from a war and found that my country had created such a disgrace, I would have gone right back to where ever the war was. Maybe I would have kept fighting, thinking this, "If I keep doing what I was last told to do, then everything will go back to normal."
