Watching deconstruction is real time is tragic. Christ didn't "unhitch" the Christian faith from the Jewish scriptures and neither did the apostles. This is breaking my heart..... So you're now claiming Rick Warren is in error just like Andy Stanley? You're just lumping every type of misinterpretation of Scripture into one big caldron, and claiming all to be witches and heretics? Do you not see the danger here? Do you not understand how many things, right now in this moment, that you believe that are most likely heretical?
Do you not understand there was once a case made that to play a certain style of music in the church - for the purpose of worship mind you - was also heretical? If you do, and you attend a church service with anything remotely close to a "Contemporary Christian" worship style, do you understand you're now stirring the caldron with Stanley and Warren (since you seem to indicate they are one in the same)? If you don't attend a church with "Contemporary Christian" worship music, are seriously telling me that everyone of those church members are stirring the caldron?
How in the world do you determine who is a heretic or not? Are only those who preach from a stage possible of the heresy you decry? If so, it sure is nice that you can absolve all the sheep from even having to think about what they're doing in the body of Christ. If not, do you realize that nearly everyone is a heretic about something?
Can you please stop for at least a second or two and think about your statements before making claims like this. It's no wonder there are people listening to the likes of Andy Stanley when the people in the body of Christ are so eager to lump all people into the same heretical group. And for what purpose? What does it gain you? What does it gain of us?

I understand people’s affection for red letter Bibles. It’s rooted in love for our Redeemer. However, there are important fact surrounding the red letter Bible you may want to consider. Foremost among them, It is an editorial decision about where to begin and where to end the red letters. In many cases, this is obvious. But other passages are more difficult. Red letter markings draw an artificial distinction.
We know about Jesus from the Bible. As John says, “these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ.” The other writings of the New Testament are not a barrier or hindrance to our deeper knowledge of Christ, they are God’s own method of it! It is a false dichotomy to suggest Jesus’ words must be favored over the rest of the New Testament. It’s not either/or, but both. If Christians are not living according to the teachings of Jesus, the solution is not to strip away what the Apostles wrote, but “these things ought you to have done, and not to have left the other undone.” It was Paul who wrote, “Be imitators of me, even as I am of Christ.” Red letter Bibles perpetuate the erroneous view that we must prefer and obey one part of the New Testament over others. All of Scripture is God-breathed, in every part; the epistles no less than that gospels. Setting some words off in red as an indication they are more important than the other words cannot but make one think they are more inspired than others. Should Christians pay less attention what Paul wrote, because his words are not in red? We believe that the Holy Spirit is the one who inspired the writers to record what they wrote, whether it is the words of Jesus in the gospels or the words of the apostles in the rest of the New Testament. Therefore, it does not add anything to the authority of God’s word (and in fact may confuse the issue) to have some highlighted above others. There isn’t a two-tiered inspiration of God’s word. God’s word can and will speak to hearers in a monochromatic font.

Curious what hypocrisy you’re talking about friend. And Charles is quite far from the ‘feel good pop Christianity’ of today; He’s bold, doesn’t cut corners, and doesn’t hold back on telling Christians to stop being ‘too busy’ for God and actually devote time to Him and actually sitting down and reading their Bible!! Every lesson was based solely from the Text and Charles very critically taught notetaking for believers. I’ve been watching Dr. Stanley for years and I’ve learned a great deal from him - he was a great servant of God. Was he perfect? No, but no man can be expected to be, and he learned a lot with time by God’s hand.
Andy however…well…he’s the antithesis of his father in every way, like he’s being rebellious against everything his father held ground on - Charles for example very clearly emphasized the importance of READING Scripture and taking it seriously to follow for absolutely EVERYTHING in a believer’s life. Andy however tries to disengage his flock from the Word completely.
Charles Stanley was a one of a kind, and his son is responsible for his own actions; “whoever eats sour grapes - their own teeth will be set on edge.” (Jeremiah 31:30)

      1. I would love to see those citations and sources
      2. It is really easy to place a great deal of judgment on pastors -- and many are withholding the fact that they are men just as much as anyone but with ever much more responsibility. I don't doubt he made mistakes, but truly I could see that overtime he became wiser. When did these things happen? When he was young? Did he continue to behave like this his whole life? Did he want other people to behave the same?Is there evidence of change and growth? The maturity of God? Did he learn? Let's talk about hypocrisy here; what about the mistakes you and I and all believers have made in their lives? The important thing is have we repented? Learned? And been brought closer to God in our mistakes and failures? Because I feel like honestly Charles has used these life lessons to warn others.
I mean, let's compare that to other major churches where everyone has to be perfect, smiley, and peace and love and everyone is perfect and everyone is fine, which is why people become stuck on milk and not solid food or think that God is not of change and maturity and bringing men to their knees in Christ's humility, and refusal of such which ultimately leads to believers making worse mistakes.
Do you not recall that upon Charles and his wife's divorce he wilfully accepted the punishment of stepping down? And yet, his church didn't want him to. They wanted him to stay and learn and grow from it, and to not marry again.
      3. Are ANY of those things an excuse for Andy? NO. He is a pastor in charge of a congregation -- that is a MASSIVE responsibility he is going to have to answer for. Instead of apparently blaming his father and rebelling against him and against God why doesn't he seek to be better and grow from the mistakes of his father? Why doesn't he seek after what GOD wants him to do?
      4. You can do everything possible to set your child up for Christ but it will ultimately be their decision on making that choice.

People go there for his big tent personality. It's part of the show. I've seen it in my area too: people hitch their faith to the "pastors," not the Gospel. That's usually why when the "pastor" inevitably screws up, a ton of people completely fall away and never return. They were never Christians to being with: they just liked the ear-tickling messages. I live close to James River Church where they recently had the men's conference where Mark Driscoll got into it with John Lindell over the Stronger Men's conference.... it's been quite a mess. Tons of people leaving over those shenanigans. But... they had a BIG SHOW with lights and trucks and guns and.... yeah, nothing that has anything to do with Jesus. Oh sure, they trot his name out once in awhile, but the whole even was just a gross perversion of a church "service". Anyway, the point being is that many people just came for the show, and once the plug got pulled metaphorically, many, MANY people left.

It's one thing--and I believe a wrong thing--to say that a Christian must vote Republican. It's quite another--and I, like Todd, believe it quite right--to say that a Christian must not vote Democrat. If every major part of their platform is wicked (as it is), how can a Christian support them? There is no good to outweigh the bad. Now, it seems the Republicans are determined to follow them, and it may soon be the case that a Christian may not vote for either party--but I don't believe that time is here yet.

This is my third or fourth thought (after many not nice ones). We need to pray for this poor disillusioned, angry, bitter young man. Unfortunately, I see this among this church generation. Rules were so strict and scripture so thumped that I’m not sure the heart was ever addressed. It’s a very sad commentary that this young man could go so far away from the truth, yet consider himself a Christian. 😢
I’m married to a pastors kid and it has left its mark.

There are many other ways I can "imagine" how Andy got to become a heretic, using his father's gifts and position to set himself up as an idol and not as a beacon pointing to Jesus Christ, like his father did.
