- Qatar, one of the richest countries on the planet, will be hosting the World Cup in 2022. But much of the Gulf state's expansion is being built by some of the poorest migrant workers in the world.

In the worst cases, employees are not being paid and work in conditions of forced labour. Each month dozens of young Nepalese migrant workers are returning home in coffins.

Breaks my Heart that because of the poverty these Men who trying to find better future in foreign countries have to live in such a Hell! Life just isn't fair sometimes
😰 so true
I can't believe the shear evil that governments 😢(sheiks) would do this to people. I can't believe the pure evil that one human would do to the next. Quatar should be sanctioned
I have lived in different countries of Arabian Gulf including Qatar and This documentary is 100% true. I have seen migrant workers from South Asia being treated like animals by their Local Arab sponsor.
you can believe what you see in a video
Zeeshan Humayun don’t lie I live in qa and that never happens
I have seen it....it's true
Very Sad
Even localas treat them badly
My dad worked in Qatar for about 10 years. He never told us such things. I am now shocked and sad at the same time to see the reality.
He didn't want you to feel bad for him 😢
Because he was part of the "management" and was their lapdog in harassing labourers
No father would tell his kids about the difficulties they face.
Did he tell you what he experianced
Same for me my dad has been also working there for last 20 years now i have tears in my eyes
from a Moroccan Arab, I'm against Qatar 2022 and all of this slavery
Me 2
@Adneen Alt Same here!
The World Cup is few days away and I’m not excited at all it’s a disgrace and the stadiums is gonna be taken down after the World Cup

Im from Jamaica and im no longer excited with Quatar hosting the World Cup after hearing and seeing how they treat migrant workers

so is it media fabrication?
... Or is it...
+sowhat sowhat I'm Jamaican too
where from jamaica be specific i will know if your telling he truth
Boycott the World Cup.
yea we should or threatening fifa that countries will take their money somewhere else and make a new Football company that isn`t corrupt or allows smaller countries to get reward while bigger nations (like The US and Australia) to get punish (like how the US and Switzerland are looking into bribing people to vote for that country that bribe the country to host the world cup) the thing is that Canada,United States, and Mexico should boycott the 2022 and moved it to either Japan or Australia(which HAVE the stadiums but can update them so it can hold more people in it) If the New President doesn`t moved it or stripped Qatar its rights to host the 2022 world cup then Canada, the US, and Mexico should give back their hosting duties and tell FIFA to go shove it where the Sun doesn`t shine and that the Swiss gov. should take fifa Non-profit rights away because they either lied to the swiss gov. about how much money they made or that they are using the "non-profit" as a cover up so they don`t have to paid taxes in the country
Listen im with u about it but why not move it to Algeria they deserve it more they are pretty decent
I won't watch it.
Thank you for making this video! It’s absolutely disgusting how these people are treated!
We need to raise voice on this.
Where is human/labour right?
Stop 2022 woldcup in quatar!
The only way to stop this hellish cycle of modern slavery !
" ADD YOUR VOICE NOW. "
I I will shut up I am just a kid
Plus you misspelled qatar
I wanted to say when I was a child I saw billions of Indians coming to Qatar I said why
COVID 19 is doing that.
I love the world cup but think we need to boycott this one. Fifa corrupt to the core.
As a Nepalese citizen after seeing this vid all my excitement for world cup is gone 😢
Bruh what?Italy hosted the World Cup during Mussolini reign,Argentina hosted during a dictatorship,no matter how close they get politics and football never mix
@@reemdaak3591 hmm..
They think they are the best Muslims in the world. Irony? I am a Muslim too but I love USA and Canada.
Many of those workers are Muslim as they come from Bangladesh, Indonesia etc. And Nepal and India too
@@callmekai97 i don't really think there are from Indonesia
@@muh.awaluddin7893 there probably are, with India’s improving living conditions the foreign labor bill gets passed onto the next poor country
@@TheWizardGamez india still have more poor people than any country in the world because of its population
“I never want to hear the name Qatar again”. Man, that hits deep

As a Nepal born Australian citizen, this video really made me cried. Shame on you country like Qatar where you have everything like skyrocketing building, modern car, road or in another word' complete opulence', but in my sense, those modern house, apartment whatsoever are filled with heartless wild and inhuman so called human who are just blood suckers. Poor people are paying their cost in term of death, torture, abuse for sake of Qatari enjoyment and romance...
SO SAD - they should be ashamed and the world should refuse to play soccer there!!!

I support any boycott of the Qatar World Cup. I honestly wish my country wouldn't send it's team in '22.

These gulf Arabs have a lot of money but very little hearts
I lived in Qatar for two years, and the report is 100% correct and you can even find worse cases than the one showed in footage.
fifa needs to strip away the 2022 world cup away from Qatar !!!! this is so Sad
b0x Retro Games NOOO
I am Nepalese Citizen , And I was cry when i saw this Video
I’m from a Qatar and I fell so selfish and those Qatari makes me seem bad I’m so sad :(
it's the government they are the problems
Don't worry about it. Its not your people they are talking about or your leaders. Its your Government. Your leaders and people are great but your Government always wants money and money
@@morestuff64058 are the leaders not in government?
Am Qatari and I feel bad
Qatar doesn't deserve the World Cup! It should be stripped of its hosting duties with the tournament moved to Europe-possibly Ireland or Wales, or a combination of European countries.
or somewhere else in the middle east but they have to get decent wages
South Africa or Brazil would be fun😀

I live in Qatar and I do live in one of the fancy hotels, it sickens me to see how the workers are treated here. Even some Americans experience being trapped from leaving the country..... hopefully this place will improve how it treats its workers...
Americans? Really?
Its crazy what you can do with enough money and power...
As a Bangladeshi i know both Bangla, Hindi and Urdu language. This is true story of blood. Your joy our blood. Which your game this our giving life.. But most of people go for a dreaming life a wonderful life. They give there family best thing. For food people give there life how wonderful. After death there family even don’t know what is happened..
This is so cruel. How can someone ever live normally after causing someone's life to become destroyed.
Shame on Nepal gov. and the manpower agency .. Middle finger TO Prime Minister of Nepal
What about Qatar
Dislikers of the video are super rich......I guess as they can afford the super high speed internet on the cost of poor people's life....
It is sad to see the plight of these poor labourers. And shame on those who torture these poor souls
FIFA wont give a fuck.
Fifa got their golden share !
Football isn't about passion anymore it's all about money!
i’ve lived both in Qatar and UAE and the situation is so exactly the same… no one talks about this stuff and it breaks my heart. Not to mention that UAE was awarded the County of culture and this is the way they treat the people who have build the city…
Whoever watches the 2022 WC ….shameful.
So, so sad. My heart is breaking. Where are the humanitarian agencies? Aren't they aware of this? The whole world should be ashamed of ourselves.
Humanitarians are selectively silent. Who controls the humanitarian agencies ?
The British talking about slavery!
Yeah but this is modern slavery
I bought a Barcelona jersey last week that has Qatar airways on it I feel disgusted that I did now because this is fucking awful

@menal j he is a Nepali and try to respect human life
we south asian people are the ones who are carrying this country. no-one seems to care about us cause we are the 'animals of this world' . we are humans but this video just proves that these cruel and vicious men are not humans but just dogs who are weak to do anything themselves
Thank you so much The guardian for making this film.!! this means sp much for us Nepalis.
This not only happens in Qatar but also UAE and Saudi as well. Its a vicious circle and these poor people suffer for the greed of rich Arabs. And the worst part is there is no accountability by any government.
ravi8490 You said it right !
And kuwait
Shame Shame Shame and Shame. So sad. So many tears to see this .
यो video हेर्दा सारै मन रोयो ..... हामी नेपाली कहीले यो बिदेशिनी जिन्दगि बाट मुक्त हुनी होला . .........
No one will ever try to go Qatar for work after watching this!
God Bless Those Nepali People in Qatar!
This is inhumane. What else to expect 😡
This needs far more attention currently...
Proof fifa don’t care about human rights
Rip to those who died for this project
i just remembered my best friend ganga bahadur, who had passed away 2 years ago in qatar :(
16yrs old died of overwork .phew heartbreaking
The same thing is happening in Dubai, a beautiful city built on blood of innocent men. I hope things change for these people.
Guess what. Its almost every single gulf country. Not just UAE And Qatar
Thank you The Guardian for putting light on the pain of voiceless!
My name is Braeden Fields. I am the founder of the Human Rights advocacy group @Homage2Humanity. I am putting a lot of time and effort into this issue. I am appealing to all levels of the FIFA organization, tons of news outlets, sponsors, broadcasters(Fox has the rights). I am launching a huge campaign to not only boycott the 2022 World Cup, but to have it moved, and to also appeal to world organizations about the tragedy of Modern Slavery. Do not underestimate the power of what we all can accomplish online. We will definitely make noise about it
Don't worry UAE.
One day the wheel of time will spin in other direction and you will cry but nobody will be there to save you.
It made me cry 😓Qatar shouldn't host the World Cup
"Forced to work with no pay" please just say slaves.
Thank you Guardian for such an informative report. I am shocked to know that many people are realising this just now. This injustice has been ongoing for years in many Gulf nations such as UAE, Qatar and Kuwait. People should raise more awareness about these issues!
its really heartbreaking seeing a mother cries for her dead child.
this is damn depressing. even if FIFA does the right thing and orders a re-vote and moves the WC out of Qatar, it won't bring back the lives of the dead Nepalese workers. Let us pray for these slaves.
People must sent strong message to the Qatar Govt./ Monarch by stripping of the World Cup,2022. If it still goes on, there must be something that FIFA is trying to put under the Carpet.
im a Qatari citizen, my dads a doctor so is my mom , every time i go and buy food, if i see a worker, i just give him my food and rather stay hungry, don't judge the country for some of its ignorant heartless people. plus i never depended on a worker, as i depended on myself through my life.
Thank you for helping you are making a difference in there lives
this was 9 years ago and why did the world cup still happen
A World Cup in a place where real fans won't be able to go. Should never have even considered that vile country for the tournament.
i was hyped for the world cup, until i found this . The World cup no much will be looking forward to
I don't get it. Aren't they supposed to clean their own house? Do they expect to have a maid clean their rooms and kitchens?
consider 12h forced labour in the heat. unbelievable ha?
Maybe it is better that the World Cup will be held there, because without this World Cup no media would pay attention to these poor suffering workers, hoping this would improve their lives
So many people are thankful to guardian for this report, an issue so vulnerable but neglected has finally reached to the world, we are so very grateful for this news report
I am an Arab and have lived in Qatar (I'm not Qatari though) but this actually happens but this is slightly exaggerated. I try to help them when I see them.
I live there too, but we never hear about any deaths because they never say someone died here.
R.Flame yep, me too
Abdulla Alobaidi Public are only aware as much as the media tell them. In most countries people don't know what's going with their 3rd class citizens till they experience the life themselves.
CJ Alpo, why are you so mad?
RPHP, I know
hey fifa, the us has lots of stadiums, think about it
this is a disgrace...do they not value life???...I think too much wealth brings insanity and cruelty in mankind
Glad that investigative journalism is still alive
Being a Nepali and watching the video it hurts a lot seeing people suffer and treated worse than slaves.Every people have their rights and people who work for others are simply not given any respect. How shameful for a country like Qatar treating Nepali worker like a slaves.
This is so heartbreaking. ):
BECKHAM YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF... YOU BRING SHAME TO YOUR FAMILY 😢😢😢
Thanks for Uploading
This was 9 years ago……. 😑😳
I see innocence in Nepalese people
This was so disturbing and horrible. I'm so sorry for these unfortunate people.
True , in Dubai it’s exactly the same
This is so sad and so heartbreaking! =(
fuck, the scene showing the young boy's death did it for me. I dont know how this isn't a bigger issue highlighted.
Just heard about this and I'm even 9years behind 😎😎😎
This so unbelievable, those workers are not getting paid for months!! How are they suppose to support themselves with such unfair treatment? It really hurt when that 16 year old boy came home in a coffin...And here I am feeling gloomy that the guy I like didn't talk to me in uni today. When I graduate, hopefully I can help out workers like these.
Lack of regulation of capitalism will lead to these situations.
Very depressing: 8:24 ; this is modern slavery and surprisingly the UN is doing nothing satisfactory to change the current situation.
Saif-al Thani of the Qatari government communication office says that no lives have been taken on the construction sites.
I have been living in Dubai for 7 years and I have seen all of these. all are true. But the part that says they cant leave without permission isnt correct. they came her by their own reesponsibility
The interviewees state that they were promised a lot higher wages. They acted upon these promises adn were cheated by the Dubai/Qatar contractors, who also illegaly stole their travel documents and passports. What on earth are you talking about?
You’re wrong. The company keeps their passports
Hassan sedaghat you are wrong, they cannot leave without permission because their passports are confiscated by their agents in Qatar.
How are they supposed to leave without their passports???
Damn you liar, I been there and seen this happening to poor people.
now 8 years have passed, but still that experience haunt me
In Brazil's world cup, some workers DIED in construction if the stadiuns
Unconventional international migrant laws.
" Boycott all the sponsoring partners of fifa."
My dad lives in Qatar when I visit I never realised what was actually happening. Conditions I know where always bad but not this bad
My neighbours died at quatar stidium construction and even he don't paid salery
No human deserves to be treated like that
this is mad some thing need to be done and fast i cant beleave its going on
@TheGurdian is there anyway I can contribute to help the Nepalese family pay off their debt?
@ADITYA Ghimire I hope bhagwan is going to free all of our people from slavery so they can return back to Nepal. Jai Sri ram
How can the officials at FIFA stand by and watch all this suffering?
Is it for money? What does Sepp want? A bigger headstone?
Qatar has no minimum wage, so it's private companies that set a wage thats agreed upon, stadiums were built by an American construction company, and a British designer.
It goes much, much beyond the world cup, The way this, and other Gulf state treat foreign migrant workers is nothing short of outrageous, and we in the West who pander to them and prop them up are complicit in that.
Heart touching documentary
I WILL NEVER THINK OF QATAR THE SAME WAY. SHAME, SHAME ON YOU QATAR!!!!!
Africans fought in WW2 for job opportunities back home. Some were shot whilst protesting for benefits promised. All the slaves who worked to build Europe , all the those who died under King Leopold in the Congos and never got reparations ...they share the same tomb as these migrants. Let's treat the human race with respect
