  • The Arab Spring is spreading, but not to Qatar, a tiny, oil-rich country wedged between Saudi Arabia and Iran. What keeps the peace in Qatar? Bob Simon reports.

Yeah usually the news in Arab world is all in sync and they don't detract from their own agendas or get involved too much in regional politics. Al Jazeera is very different because it does focus intensely on geopolitical politics, and it's probably the first unbiased international Arab news network, even though its backed by the State of Qatar. The other one is PressTV run by the Iranians but that has a degree of political bias, such that it's been banned from broadcasting in the UK.

***** ironmantis25 Look at it this way: the people of Qatar have the highest standard of living in the world, the country is booming and they lack absolutely nothing, free healthcare, education, water and electricity. Why would you want to change that? But other countries like Libya, Tunisia and Egypt aren't as lucky when it comes to standards of living and a big reason for that is their governments. Their leaders steal billions and put it in their back pockets, that's why change was needed.

I been to Qatar 2 weeks ago! The country is astonishing. The Doha airport is world-class, it makes Western airports look decades behind and like third-world countries. They have free rest areas and free sleep rooms with comfy leather lounger chairs, massive LCD screens and lighting that makes the airport look like daylight 24.7, rows and rows of TV's showing every station for each country. Even the toilets are spotless with large spacious cubicles.

It is a haven of peace and quality of life and deserves all the prosperity it has. the people are honest and there is huge potential for any ethical person wishing to do business here. It is the nicest country I've ever lived in. UK, on the other hand, has been ruined by the EU and its bossiness and stasi-state control and political "correctness" with all the wrong focus, cramping the style of the innocent, whilst the White Collar Professionals" asset strip innocent people with alacrity to prop up the BANKRUPT UK Government who are stealing from their own people - covertly!

Honesty is a spiritual quality of God - something that Western leaders do not seem to understand or 'see'. I'd rather live in Qatar ANY day. THere are more Nazis in the UK than anywhere. Qatar is an emerging economy and is teachable and booming and a great place to live. Uk is a mess controlled by secret societies and Freemasons with police that won't police, a government that won't govern, a justice system that is so corrupted that all its fruits are about spreading injustice and misery - and all of these are bankrupting the people of England. Qatar supports its own people. UK ROBS its own people. think on these things!

Their news is not the official narrative of Washington, it is consistent with the majority of the world, and the people of the region, but their actions in Libya and Iraq are questionable. Perhaps they are just wise enough to align with Washington when necessary, but allow their completely independent news to show the true agenda of the world empires. They get to keep what they have, avoid being invaded, have some protection by being " friends with everybody" that would be a wise move. The news channel is a beacon of clarity amid the smoke and mirrors of MSM.

Christine is correct, and I’m somebody who has lived in Qatar for over 30 years, and have an intimate understanding of US foreign policy in this region. Aljazeera had a role to play, and that role mandated that it be ‘anti-American’ enough to gain street cred in the Arab world. With no Al-Jazeera there would not have been an Arab Spring, and even the most pedestrian observer has a rough idea now of the American role in that enterprise, be it NGOs, or straight up CIA operatives and militias the US wanted armed to exact geopolitical leverage.

Its punishment is in killings, earthquakes and Fitan (afflictions, trials, tribulations).” [Abu Daawood and Al-Haakim] Al-Haakim said, “The chain of narrators of this hadeeth is authentic; Al-Thahabi and Al-Albaani are of the same view.
The wording of Abu Daawood in his Sunan is as follows, “This Ummah of mine is an Ummah that has been granted mercy; it will have no punishment in the Hereafter. Its punishment is in this world, in Fitan (afflictions, trials, tribulations), earthquakes and killings.”
The scholars stated that what is meant by Ummah here is most of the Muslim nation as it is determined with absolute evidence that some of them will enter Hellfire to be purged.

the king seems like a decent bloke. Ah, had I seen this earlier, I'd have asked someone at the Qatar airport to get me in touch with him for a bit of a amicable conversation.

Qatar "Richest Country in the world...!" Don't be stupid...(I can't stop laughing..)! Qatar's GDP is only 10% of New York City...! Since the total number of Qataris is only quarter of a million, the per-capita is high, that's all. They have no technology of their own or even a decent university with their own professors..! 50% of the main roads are good, the rest are below average. The internal roads are worse than that exist in a third world country. Human rights do not exist. The foreign laborers are treated like slaves and paid much less than what they have been promised (cheating). Passports are taken away from them as soon as they arrive. When compared to western standards, Qatar is still very undeveloped. There is only a false facade of luxury and peace here.
